Aaron Maybin

I know this is only from one site. (www.draftcountdown.com) but it doesnt make him sound all that great for the 11th pick. Do you agree and if there is a site with better comments about him please post them

Strengths:

Excellent athleticism...Extremely quick and has a phenomenal first step...Explosive with a great burst...Smooth and fluid...Has a non-stop motor...Relentless in pursuit...Closes in a hurry...Agile with good balance and changes directions well...Can be a terror off the edge...Is comfortable in space...Has displayed some ability and promise in coverage...Real long arms...There is very little fat on his body and he has room to add more weight...Offers some positional versatility...A hard worker...Team leader...Nice production...Still has tons of upside.

Weaknesses:

Is severely undersized...Does not have great timed speed...A liability versus the run...Struggles mightily to get off blocks...Doesn't play with much discipline...Marginal instincts and awareness...Will need to continue getting stronger...Still immature...Doesn't have much playing experience..Only had one big year in college...Poor program pedigree.

Notes:

Redshirted in 2006...Worked in a backup capacity in 2007...Enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2008 and emerged as one of the country's premier pass rushers...Named 1st Team All-Big Ten and also led the conference in sacks in 2008...Was a consensus 1st Team All-American as a redshirt sophomore...Was demoted for a short time prior to the Rose Bowl because he was late for a meeting...Classic 'tweener who is not big enough to play defensive end but might not be fast enough to play outside linebacker either...Playing weight in 2008 was reportedly right around 230 pounds...Packed on 20 pounds between the end of his season and the Scouting Combine but did not test nearly as well as expected...Other Nittany Lion defensive ends like Courtney Brown, Michael Haynes and Tamba Hali have not fared well in the pros...Best fit at the next level could come in a 3-4 scheme...Is basically just a one-dimensional speed rusher at this point...Probably came out too early and is simply not yet ready for the NFL...Has all the potential in the world but is still very raw...Project who will require some patience

I heard that too but what exactly makes him top 10 or top 11 caliber? His weaknesses seem to add up to more than his strengths

Actually, his potential upside dwarfs the weaknesses, IMO. And, some of the listed weaknesses are fairly insignificant. Who cares about his timed run, really? He gets to the QB quicker than anyone in the draft.

Now, I think he's too much of a risk for the Bills (I think another year in college would have done him some good). But, for some teams, who don't necessarily need the immediate impact, he could be a real gem.

I hear the Bills are intrigued by him, but I have to believe they share the same concerns we all bring up.

I am not sold on him to be honest...

No video available on him, can only go by scouting reports unfortunately.

My sense of Maybin is that he would only have great value to the Bills as an outside linebacker who is a great blitzer. The problem is that he would have to be able to defend passes in coverage also. That's a big question mark.

When he bulked up he compromised his greatest strength (explosive burst) and at some point you're simply too small to play defensive end. He played DE at 230 pounds at Penn State.

Much more than Orakpo or Brown, this guy seems like a 3-4 rushbacker to me. The other two I believe can play end in a 4-3.

I say he's a linebacker and therefore don't like Maybin at #11.

He did, when he was 234 lbs. and just running around college level tackles. Now he's heavier, slower, and going up against NFL tackles. Pass.

I don't know what to think of Maybin. Worth our #11?..............................I gotta say no right now. One year of excellent production at a weight of 235lbs. He's a sketchy prospect at best. Will he posess the same explosion at 260lbs? He had his best production against subpar teams. His best performance of the season came against an underachieving Wisconsin team with 6 tackles, 1 assist, and 2 sacks. He had multiple sack games against Temple, Coastal Carolina, and the forementioned Wisconsin. Against Iowa, their only reg.season loss, he had just 1 tackle. Against USC he had 4 tackles, but never harassed Sanchez at all. I couldn't use our 1st Rounder on him. Worth our 2nd if he drops that far? Yes.

He is an intriguing prospect. There definitely is a buzz surrounding him. Some analysts believe he could be special, others think he could be a colossal bust. Now of course, I know the same case can be made for many players, but in his case, I believe it to be more pronounced than others.

The other player that are in the big bust category for me, are Stafford and Jared Cook. I'd hate to be in Detroits position right now, I'm thinking behind the scenes they are desperately looking to trade out of that spot. In regards to Jared Cook, some team will look at his athletic measurable and turn a blind eye to his on field production and work ethic, and my guess is that they will get burnt.

Maybin's in there and the one titled "Part 1"

Look at the end for him.

I would love him because a first year Pass Rusher doesn't develop overnight, so if we let him develop with his already sick first step we'd have a premier guy for at least 5-6 years...

What will happen in this draft (as it does every year) is that certain positions slide due to some depth (or mediocrity) at certain positions. I predict this year those positions wil be RB, OLB, CB, and WR. Players like Nic Harris will fall to RD4 or 5 because OLB's are plentiful. On the other hand, some positions go like hotcakes. This will happen to OT and DE this year. Teams will be reaching for DE's after 2 rounds. If we leave DE to RD3, we will be signaling that we're going after Keiaho or settling for Ellison.

Well thanks for the video Lynch Mob but obviously it is a scant amount. It's weird how the Draft Party videos are sometimes 7-9 minutes on a player and Maybin is almost non-existent. Oh well...I did like the Porno Music they used over the clips.

Are you talking DE or OLB?

both.

RD3 will be our last chance for DE and OLB.

Sidbury, maybe Cody Brown or Zack Follett is about it at OLB,

and Sidbury, maybe Dorell Scott is end of the line at DE.

It'd be too bad if we were looking for something other than OG (Levitre, Urbik ) or TE James Casey in RD3.
