It was notable in that it was the first time he publicly made the admission in a campaign context, although of course it's well known (and who really cares). Yup, DC's daughter's a lesbian. Yup, Edwards' wife is overweight (is she really 'obese' by definition?). And, maybe you're onto something. Providing medical care for obesity early on can save a lot of money in the future, when the people in their 60s+ and on MediCare develop the diseases that are associated with it. Just like pre-natal screening saves $6 for every dollar spent. You guys talk about reducing the federal budget, these are baby steps to the day when we can say, okay we don't need these programs anymore b/c people are in better health. $2.5T - $.5T = $2T. This way, liberals (while drinking alcohol) would not have to smell smoke, nor look at those awful fat persons that they find unpleasant to the eye. This doesn't mean I view her as "obese" but some people I know have been classified as such in their physicals and to me appear only mildly overweight. I think the common view and the clinical definition are different. And, maybe you're onto something. There's the new "healthy fat person" didn't you hear? You can be obese and healthy at the same time. Star Jones talked about it all the time in between wheezing (and before her gastric bypass). If you don't feel like taking care of yourself, just let yourself go until you are over 3 bills, then the rest of us (through medicare) will cover your gastric bypass surgery. Since 4 out of every 100 people who have a gastric bypass will die in the peri-operative period, we'll have Edwards there to sue your obviously negligent doctor. I have no idea why this particular woman is overweight. She could be a diabetic, she could have had a hysterectomy, who knows? How that is similar to the VP breaking with his own President on an important issue because his own daughter is gay and the opposition commenting on it, I'll never know. The fact that their own daughter is gay and that they support a gay baiting President, I think, is important. It's not like Kerry "outed" her, everyone knows and the VP himself acknowledged it. Slate has an interesting article on this issue: Bush and Gay Baiting If at some point Kerry supports a constitutional amendment banning the obese from getting married, then I think it would be fair game to go after Edwards for being Kerry's running mate. I would imagine that if you scratch the men on this board who are overweight, underweight, balding or just plain plug-ugly there would only be 2-3 left. They can't make a compelling case for their cause so they attack someone for being fat, or short, or tall...and on it goes.
