But, is he... worth it?

side note to Beane: going forward, pick more players who contribute to National Championships. This aint rocket surgery

No, I mean is, you can get a good look at a T-bone by sticking your head up a butcher's ass... No, wait. It's gotta be your bull

No, his third best season.  His second was 1,817. I actually reference it in my post.

…and I am not quite sure what your issue is (if you have an issue at all).

I am also, and I don’t know why people are having a hard time with this, stating facts of numbers.

If Cook has 290 rushes at his 5.3 yard per carry average, from a history stand point it will be the third most yards in Bills rushing history at about 1,525.

Why are people having an issue with me stating a numeric fact?

at what point anywhere in my post did I say, “That makes Cook the best RB in Bills history with the best rushing season ever!”?

The third highest total in franchise history would…ya know…be a big deal.

I wrote nothing more. The only comparison I made was in number of carries and where Cook may end up.

I'm more concerned that history doesn't even qualify as context, and in OJ's case particularly so, since he became - uh - "unpopular" later in life.

His 1973 accomplishments should stand out in NFL history as the singular measure of RB greatness.  What he did in 14 games with a good but not great team with a good but not great QB is incomparable.  When someone else hits 2000 in 14 games we can talk.

I love your comment "I don’t know why people are having a hard time with this, stating facts of numbers."  I had a statistics professor in college who said "statistics don't lie but liars can statistic."  Numbers can be presented to support pretty much any argument you want to make.

But it's not a big issue.  On to New England.

There has been (33) 1,000 yard rushing seasons by Bills backs in their 66 year history.

Currently, James Cook has 1,308 yards, which is good for 9th all time for the team.

He is 8 yards from passing Thurman Thomas' 1,315 yards in 1993 for 8th...

He is 49 yards from passing Travis Henry's 1,356 yards in 2003 for 7th...

...and long story short, it looks like he is going to pass OJ Simpson's 1976 total of 1,503 for 3rd place all time.*

I know what you are thinking..."But Dollars, you gentlemen adventurer and warrior poet**, OJ did 1,503 in only 14 games and Cook gets 17."

I hear you, fellow anonymous board member other than the name that is by your avatar.  However, don't think of it as games as much as carries.

OJ ran for 1,503 on 290 carries.  Cook has 1,308 on 249 attempts.

If...IF you were to grant James his 5.3 yards per carry average over 41 more attempts it would put him at 1,525 yards on 290 carries.

We are still in the hunt for the division...hell, we are still in the hunt for the conference, as well.

However, let us not forget the amazing individual achievements that are taking place besides what Josh does on a weekly basis.

Go Bills!

(* He won't pass OJ's '75 1,817 yards or 1973's 2,003 yards)

(** Yes, I stole it from Rooster Teeth...but what is true, is true)

Donuts, excellent post and thanks for placing things in perspective.  You and I are not happy about the fumbles especially in a day that feels like 20 degrees or less, snow freakin everywhere, and he extends with one arm on the goal line.  That was definition of stupidity.  We’re not when we were kids especially in those conditions, you hold onto the damn ball with both hands and live for another play, to seal the deal.

Ok, I have that off my chest, now you are 100% correct he’s having a special even magical year and has far outplayed his contract.  McD thankfully didnt sit him, but allowed him to play out to a win.  I was wrong on him.  I originally thought they would let him play out his contract and then franchise him.  Again, I was WRONG!  I’m happy to admit it.

Our line is playing well outside of the Texans game.  Our TE’s are getting it done.  The other RBs are finally contributing with Ty in the passing game, Davis is perfect in our return game.  These new ST rules speak to having a dynamic back returning for us, not a WR.

So donuts, thanks for keeping things in perspective.  Now let’s kick the Pats ars Sunday.

We do that we move onto Cleveland, then Philly and McD can decide whether we are playing for something with the Jet’s, or not.  Then it’s rest the starters like always as we won’t be the #1 seed.  I’m not giving up or conceding hope.  I won’t.

That's why in 23 years I have only 8,000 or so posts.  :D

JP, I would so eat up a 300 yard Allen passing day along with a 125 yard Cook rushing day against the Pats.

Throw in Johnson, too, Mat.

I like when he gets touches, as well.

Amen Brother... that would be epic... throw in a plus 2 on the TO and we may have something.

Theatrics?  Is that the term for trying to reach out with the ball to cross the goal line?

While I agree he should only do it if people aren't actively trying to knock the ball out, I don't think anyone was mad at his "theatrics" in last year's AFCCG on his back breaking extension for the goal line td run.

I hate that rule... fumble out of the end zone and you lose the ball and it goes to the other team at the 20... I think it is way to punitive and honestly makes you question if it is worth it... that dive and stretch for the end zone is an exciting play...  I think it is literally the most punitive rule in the game...  I dont mind if the offense retains the ball but it gets knocked back 10 yards from the point of the fumble that ok... but to lose the ball is tough.

There was not a need for that at that moment.  Ball security was the priority.  Those flops onto back after a TD etc are all silly and will eventually get him hurt.

we can disagree on theatrics or not but the outcome wasn’t good.

Wasn't "Olaf Fub" the alter ego or nom de guerre of a Buffalo Evening News columnist back in the 1970s???

I know that name from somewhere deep in Buffalo's ancient history.

33% of James Cooks career fumbles have occured in the last two games.  Obviously you don't want this to be a trend but he doesn't really have a history of fumbling issues.

I think it maybe the gloves that he is wearing.  Just an opinion.

Apparently, I'm not the only one with a good memory!

Armed with his real name, I looked Bruce Shanks up.  While working for the Buffalo Evening News, he won a Pulitzer for editorial cartoons.  The Buffalo (Evening) News has won 4 Pulitzers over the years, 3 for cartooning (only one for investigative reporting).  Olaf Fub Sez Buffalonians are funny people.

Oh yeah, one last thing.  Not only do I want to beat them Sunday, once we run the table and those p#@$&ers lose to the Ravesn and Fish would be fitting.

Get them again, this time in our house in the divisional round, and bury them.  Their reign is over.  F#@$k them.  We can repeat this battle next year.

Did anyone else catch Jeremy White (or is it Jerry 🤔) talking about the Pat*s having practice squad guys wearing #4 so the Pat*s defense could practice punching the ball out?

And here I thought that squad of douche-nozzles couldn't do anything to make me like them, their entire journalist world and their fans any less.  Hmph

I heard it this morning.  You probably heard the psych warfare they are pulling on us.  Who cares.  I still feel like we can do it.  We’ll find out Sunday.  I did think it was funny when Vrabel pulled the trick Belicheck usually pulls on other, on him.

He's a good coach.  We now have a real competitor as the Fish and Jet’s have never been real competition.  These Pats look like tigers, but another two drafts and free agency, and they will be a formidable adversary.  I can respect and still hate them.

Without Cook....this team would be cooked. The only option would be to air it out to these receivers.

Allen

Cook

Benford

Maybe the three best Bills players

PFF says the Bills have 5 offensive players ranked in the top 10 at their positions

Allen - #5 QB

Hawes - #2 TE

Kincaid - #4 TE

Cook - #10 RB

Gilliam - #1 FB

On Defense - We have 3 guys in the Top 10 [Ed O. played too few snaps to qualify]

Rousseau - #9 Edge

Shaq - #5 LB

Daquan - #8 DL

Bishop lurks just outside at S at #12 S

Benford has elite run defense and pass rush grades in the 90's, but his pass defense is graded around 50.
