Play Clock Malfunction

Has anyone talked about the play clock issues on the final drive. 
 

We, for sure, had to waste a 1st down where Allen got to the line, the play clock wasn’t correct, and he emergency snaps it, whips it to the sideline hoping for anything because nobody was ready to go when he snapped it.  Essentially forfeiting a play. 
 

Was that the 1st down on our final set of downs.. after the Shakir play? Or was it earlier in the drive?

Yeah it was convenient that and the head ref getting hurt before that mess. If I was a conspiracy theorist I might say more.

It was a ***** joke. That play that Allen rushed to get off like 15 seconds after the previous play had ended or whatever screwed us.

Though it’s a rarity an official goes down, it appears the NFL has no backup plan, beyond what we saw, in these situations. I’m guessing that’s not the case in the playoffs. 🤷‍♂️

I was curious as to how they were keeping the play clock time on the field. Like was the ref shouting to Josh when it got down to 5 seconds or something?

We haven't won in Houston in 19 yrs.

 

The flag on buffalo right before the half , ( would've been 3rd and 10)...etc

 

Ive hated Houston since I was younger and the comeback game, the link to Houston and the titans.

Let's face it, folks.  Whatever could go wrong has this entire season.  The football gods are conspiring against us.  To me it started with that whole Hard Knocks thing.  It turned out to be a crappy show, but to me, Dion Dawkins let the attention go to his head.  He has stunk this season!  Then we have had to be on the road in prime time versus teams that have been starved for national attention.  And after Every game, the Bills have come out with injuries to key players that we lose for multiple games or the season.  When we see a glimpse of how good this team can be in our wins, the rug gets pulled out with those key injuries.  I am convinced that in this league you not only have to be good, you have to be lucky.  The Bills haven't been.  And they are not good enough to overcome the bad luck.

 

So, though I don't agree that the Bills need to jettison their top management YET...I do believe at the very least Coordinators need to change on both sides of the ball, and that could/should entail changes in philosophy in both the HC and GM.

 

For the rest of this season, I will cheer, and hope.  I expect the Bills will be a wildcard in the playoffs, and compete.  I will root against KC and the Pats.  And, I will not impose my feelings and opinions on the team and assume that players are thinking exactly what I'm thinking.  I'll look at the rest of the season objectively...and try not to let wins or losses determine how the rest of my week goes.

Key to the city or not, Dion needs to shut his mouth for a month and concentrate on football.  No more quotable cute "shnow" shite, just some solid penalty free pass protection.

You have to wonder if the first string ref would have noticed and reset the play clock (or taken an official timeout).

 

Hard to imagine that the protocol is just go with a blind play clock and let everyone guess.  Take an official timeout, let TV cut to commercial, and get the technical crew to fix the play clock.  Home team should be fined.

So, maybe for the playoffs the economic colossas that is the NFL can afford an extra plane ticket and one more hotel room for a spare ref to be sure a playoff game is called correctly? Gee, isn’t that generous of them!

yes in the playoffs they have a referee and a couple of the other crew members who have worked multiple spots waiting in the wings.

 

I notice the ref in the Houston game, who is a University at Buffalo grad, has been working in the league since 2010 and has also worked as a side judge, line judge, and field judge.

It definitely messed things up for our offense. I am not sure how Josh processes how much time he has? By sight? or is he getting that through the headset? I think the lack of one official on the field or perhaps an official not being in his regular position was another bizarre wildcard for this game. I'm not thinking conspiracy but it definitely favored the Texans on the last drive. Also seeing the Hook and ladder play again, you can see Shakir takes a late hit well out of bounds that should have been another 15 yard penalty tacked on. Even Shakir reacts to the hit as if he is looking for a flag as he is well out of bounds when it happens. Does the lack of an official also affect that call?

Kind of where I was going. The NFL boasts how it uses tools/technology to preserve the integrity, competitiveness, fairness and quality of the on field product. Yet, has no backup plan for the very vital on field officials should they be incapacitated during regular season games.
