We all know Joe Burrow was drafted #1 overall to ostensibly the worst team in football and had them in the Super Bowl 22 months later right

Correct.

In today's NFL, these front offices are basically playing a "real" fantasy football game with their rosters. You pay the wrong guy(s), or a slew of injuries, it ruins things in a hurry.

It's not as easy as people think. In Cincy's case, they paid the QB & Chase big bucks. Throw in Higgins now, a significant chunk of the cap is taken up. The trade-off is losing guys like Joe Mixon, a pretty good RB, and the other 50 guys get the leftovers (defense anyone? lol).

While the cap is great in theory, it also kind of penalizes a team who happens to hit on a draft class, as everybody's contract runs out in 4 or 5 years. Look at some of these QBs who got off to rocky starts and teams chose not to keep them around.... some are thriving now (Darnold, Mayfield, Daniel Jones).

I'm not buying all of that.  If that was the case Jake Browning would have moved the offense but he was completely ineffective.  I think Flacco's accuracy and ball placement is really high level and gives those guys a chance to make plays.  Joe obviously has the experience to understand what defenses are trying to do and disguise.  So the combo of Flacco and those elite receivers is better than what anyone could have imagined.  He wasn't this effective on the Browns obviously.

Browning's a nobody, a bum.

Flacco is very smart, seen it all, very accurate and still spins a tight spiral.

I 100% agree and have always thought Burrow was overrated.  I'm not saying he's not good or even great, but he's a true "system" QB, whereas I think you could plop Allen, Mahomes, Jackson, and probably Herbert onto any team in any system and they would thrive.

I'd add Stafford to that top 5 , bumping Joe down the list

I'd add Mayfield to the 3rd spot. Since 2023 he's 2nd in TDs with 82 and 2nd in passing yards and 6th in passer rating.

He beats Allen in all 3 of those categories.

You're gonna get flamed because the narrative has always been Burrow is "elite" and people bought into it  And people will point to his amazing season at LSU. In which he had not only Chase, but Justin Jefferson to throw to.

I've LONG said he's not elite. He does have some good traits. But take away Chase and or Higgins and he's not winning you games by himself.

He's also the QB of a team that has often found themselves on the bad end of a game script. He pads his stats late in games far too often. Half the time just flinging balls in the direction of Chase who bails him out with amazing grabs.

Now saying all that, I do not say he is a bad QB or talentless. But people wanna stick him in the top 3 or top 5...and that's nonsense. I could maybe be talked into the 6-10 tier.

That's pretty funny. But it's also pretty accurate.

what does that tell you if Beane took his head out of you know where, and found us two stud WR’s, vs. being on the cheap.  Josh would win MVP literally every freakin year.

…that perhaps Joe Burrow ain’t so “elite” and is more the product of a pretty fantastic set of weapons.  Flame away.

Joe Is still a good qb and more durable than Glass Joe. Glass Joe is very good, but staying healthy is a major part of NFL football. They do not need Glass Joe, all they need is Joe. Regardless, no defense, no winning.

And our very own Josh Alien is on pace to win his 2nd NFL League MVP. LOL

A lot of hot takes in this thread.  I seem to recall Burrow going through our D like a hot knife through butter.

Guy is damn good and we'd all be fearing the Bengals if he was healthy.

Having said that, can you imagine Josh with Chase and Higgins? He could throw for 5500 yards.
