I live in Northern Virginia which is full of angry progressives, some of whom have been furloughed as a result of the government shutdown.  They're an angry bunch, but how far off the rails do you have to go to vote for this guy?  I guess it's open season on Republicans in Virginia now.   I wonder if Jones will even bother to prosecute the assailants.

Virginia swung like this due to the government shutdown.   As I pointed out above, Jay Jones in an off year outperformed Kamala Harris in Northern Virginia. 
 

NYC imported the third world and those new voters brought their government with them.
 

New Jersey is the state that R’s better pay attention to as it had been trending redder, but with the economy not getting better… Trump, and by extension Ciatarelli, were resoundingly rejected last night. 
 

If Trump can’t turn the economy around, stop focusing all his energy on foreign policy and tariffs… the midterms will look like last night. 
 

More structural issues for Republicans are that they consistently do not show up in off year elections.   The base of men, married folks, white working class needs to be poked and prodded to vote while Democrats will vote for any pos with a D next to their name.  
 

Second, the politics of mass migration are now in full effect.   We’ve seen it in Minnesota and other smaller places, but it’s on full display in NYC - acknowledged by their new leader who thanked everyone last night except native born Americans.   Import a dependent class of people and socialist policies will take root where they are.   We’ve been playing footsie with this for a while.. and now it’s here in a very real form.   Whether it succeeds and spreads or fails, thus becoming an albatross for Dems remains to be seen.

In my Virginia county which is ruby red, D's still gained a few points from the youngkin election.  we had better candidates this time and even some staunch maga's are disillusioned with trump.  I'm surprised Jones won his race.  I left my ballot blank there although I considered writing in a lawyer friend.

The Virginia Gov race was never seriously in question, except being promoted that way by the national media to get ratings and ads.

Nobody knew anything about Winsome Earle-Sears until Labor Day.

A well known conservative talk show host pointed out that in late Aug he called her election campaign to get her on the radio and never got in touch with anybody. There was simply no campaign activity.

Spanberger, in contrast, announced her candidacy in 2023, was extremely well funded and was on local media at least three times per week since then.

If the Republicans want a chance at the Gov house here, they have to name a credible candidate and run an aggressive campaign.

They didn't and the only reason she ever got any traction was because of the lunatic texts and conversations from the now elected AG.

 

From my perspective, the Virginia Republican party doesn't work nearly as hard as the opposition.
