Josh has been in the league for a while now. I'm not at all surprised he's making these reads. The Bills were using presnap motion to get clues from the defense last year too.

What I'm about to say is not intended to diminish Josh's participation on this play. It is exceptional.

 

The first motion is often designed into the play to ID the coverage: man or zone (though some newer defensive wrinkles will move a DB with the motion and then play zone).

 

That said, Cook's motion is all Josh.

Given all the offseason talk of Cook not being able to block, you'd think Josh would have just called a Time Out so we could swap Ty Johnson into the game...

 

OR we just do exactly as I imagined and slip Cook out into space and get the ball to him quickly so he doesnt need to block and we can make the defense pay for leaving him open.

Just for grins, on a week when the Bills are playing a bad team, let him call his own plays, and see what happens.  Hopefully, we wouldn't see three runs directly into the line of scrimmage on the Bills' second series of the game.
