Sounds like a foreign tour bus via PD radio monitoring.

Dang, how does a big tour bus rollover like that? We had something similar in Atlanta but it's because the bus went up an exit ramp and then jumped the bridge at the top, falling back onto the thruway below.

Besides the helicopters, people being rushed to ECMC and Children's. Thruway is closed Eastbound between Depew and Pembroke

A family member at ECMC told me around 1PM there was a mass notification for the hospital to lock down and prepare for a large patient injury event. Sounds pretty bad.

I saw a report from someone going the other direction that they could see where the bus swerved into the grass in the median and then coverorrected and went off the right shoulder and tipped on its side in a ditch next to the road. Some people were ejected. Everyone was out of bus by 2 PM.Happened about 1 or so.

Had the same feedback from a family member except they explained it as a mass casualty event.

It's sounding more like that's the situation unfortunately. I didn't get a lot of info right away. They just updated to say they won't be home anytime soon. It was just picked up on the national news on Fox.

Per WGR TV - 4 people choppered to Children's, 1 to ECMC and 1 to Strong (Roch.). Was a tour bus from NYC that went to NF and was on the way back to NY. Mostly Chinese, Indian, and Filipino tourists.  Thruway east may recluses until tonight. Some people still trapped on bus. Several people died including a child.

It was a foreign tour group. A lot of the victims speak mandarin. ECMC ER was scrabbling to get virtual translation systems setup.

I was actually in a tour bus rollover accident not too long ago in a very remote location. Luckily everyone walked away with minor scrapes and bruises. Makes you think about how suddenly things can change.

5 passengers killed, no kids. 2 people in surgery. Driver not impaired. No mechanical failure with bus. No other vehicles involved. Injured people were taken to ECMC, Millard Fillmore Suburban, Buff General, Children's, and Strong Memorial.

thank God no kids were killed at least, early reports had said that one perished.

Three New Jersey residents, a Columbia University student and a person from India were killed in the deadly tour bus rollover Friday afternoon on the Thruway in Genesee County. The investigation into the crash is ongoing, and the National Transportation Safety Board had a team on site Saturday to conduct a safety investigation.
