What is interesting is that growing up I really enjoyed the Colbert Report. So I was really excited when he was coming to late night. Then when I watched the show, it was awful. I knew that the Colbert Report was a "character" but I didn't realize how much that character was masking his true persona.

Kimmel is the same way, you cant go from the "Man Show" and then try to become a "moral compass"

As he ever come and said anything about the Man Show or tried to denounce it? I would respect him a little bit more if he had done that...

Comedy is not funny when the commentary is made because of political views. Observation of politicians can be funny. Trump's orange glow could be funny is not done with the intent to insult due to political bias. Kimmel is over the top. They do nothing different than Fox News  but with the cover of a joke.

It is all just singing from  the Hymn book.

Gervais insults, Rickles insulted, Carson quibbed about Reagan, Red Buttons laughed about Nixon, who never had a dinner!

I never found The Daily show funny, just one political view after another.

Colbert is being paid 15 million to get 2.5 million viewers, which is not outrageous if they are the "right" viewers, age and demo wise. I can't find it now but at one time the breakdown was Kimmel is the rich, Fallon is the young( my students watch some of his stuff) and Colbert is the geriatrics. His audience is not valuable, especially since Gutfield is drawing a lot more for a lot less money

Hating half your audience and showing it with every “joke,” yea you ain’t a comedian.

I voted for this!

Lots of cancel culture here.  Personally, I didn't watch, so I don't care.  But not caring also means not delighting in it.  Unlike the cancel culture woke right who show up here.

Little difference calling for someone to be fired or canceled vs cheering it when it happens.

Anyone recall any fire Colbert campaigns?

Shane Gillis has a ton of political commentary in his comedy, but it’s funny because he can poke fun at Trump without coming across like it’s from a place of seething hatred and resentment.

Says a lot that team blue leftists hate him, when he truly attacks all sides, simply because he isn’t an HR hall monitor comedian.

Same goes for Tim Dillon. Who’s podcast takes searing political jabs at everyone .. but because he doesn’t despise conservatives or Trump, he’s “alt-right”.

TRUE

"It was actually kept on for political reasons" is 100% correct.

Saw it mentioned somewhere that the death of the movie star and Hollywood in general has contributed to the end of these shows.  No one worth booking 5 nights a week.

That and obviously they are Democrat activists disguised as comedians.

The only movie star moment anyone remembers Colbert for is when he had Claire Danes on and she started linking Intelligience Agencies as working hand in hand with journalists to undermine political adversaries .. to which he abruptly switched topics as his corporate handlers surely started freaking out in his earpiece.
