The whole vibe around the army parade is a bit weird. I have mixed feelings about it all. Cheering people driving deadly war machines is’nt an American tradition, although we use those machines to do plenty of killing. We all know the death and pain those machines inflict. We still have bad memories of Iraq. Plenty of Americans and innocent civilians died there. Trump himself ran on keeping us out of stupid wars and disapproval of all the money and lives wasted there. Trump sending Guard troops into LA against the wishes of the state is another weird part of it all, along with his admiration for dictators. On the other hand, 250 is a significant anniversary for the Army. We all should be proud of that. The whole event seems a bit Ho-hum and tomorrow we will be on to other more significant things.

To you and everyone else reflexively against anything Trump is involved with. If he organized a pride event those same people would suddenly take issue.

That last bit is hyperbole. Kind of.

It was weird.

Trump obviously wanted a MAGA "America is Great Again" show.

Staging this on his birthday caused a lot of blowback.

The parade planners then tacked hard to the Army 250 staging, which was fine, but which gutted the MAGA energy he'd hoped for. So we had a rather overblown - and weird (because Army-centric at the expense of the other services) parade.

Maybe he'll deliver the Full Monty at his 80th.

Blowback, huh? With whom? Those reflexively against anything Trump is involved with?

It was crazy how MAGA took a time machine back 79 years and induced labor on Trump's mother so MAGA could stage the US Army 250th birthday yesterday to coincide with the birthday of the great orange menace.

These fascists will stop at nothing!

Yes! Because throwing yourself a Big Military Birthday Parade is something North Korea's Dear Leader would do.

The blowback was appropriate because the idea was offensive.

So good on Trump's people and the Army for tacking in a different direction.

You sound like Billstime with the birthday routine. Sad. You are also one of the reflexive people. No big deal as there are tens of millions like you.

Dummy, yesterday was the ARMY's 250th b-day. The Marines is in November  (don't know when  the Navy; or the Air Force's is. Blame  his mother for having him on June 14k which also is Flag Day. Are they going to have soldiers at the Navy b-day parade  or drag ships  down Constitution Ave?

I never served. At an early age I knew that I would never serve in the Armed Forces. I had a kidney taken out at age 4  and when I expressed interest following my dad in the Navy as a kid, my parents let me know that I would not be accepted (4-F). Nevertheless when I turned 18 I went downtown to register to vote, get my sheriff's card (ID to drink back then) and to register for the draft as everyone had to although there was no draft  for 2 years. They told me that tthat they would now have people register 2 times a year and the a few months later they stopped the registrations altogether. My friend that is 2  months older than me had a draft card.

Draft registration was reinstated during Reagan's 1st term.  Pretty sure it's still the rule for men.  Even though there hasn't been a draft in ~1/2 a century, makes sense to have the infrastructure in place to reinstitute it should conditions warrant it.
