Military parade in DC: Here's what to know

A massive military parade in D.C. will celebrate the Army's 250th birthday on June 14, which also falls on President Donald Trump's 79th birthday.

On Memorial Day, Trump spoke about the upcoming parade, saying, "We're going to have a great time; we are going to have a great celebration."

Expect big crowds, traffic and travel disruptions, fireworks, an airshow and displays of troops and tanks rolling down D.C. streets.

What will attendees see at the Army parade in DC?

Since it was announced, the parade has grown in scope and participation.

The evening parade will involve thousands of troops marching in formation, wearing uniforms representing every U.S. conflict dating back to the Revolutionary War, which began in 1775. Each war will be represented by 60 troops in period costume, followed by 400 troops from that same unit in their modern-day battle dress uniforms.

More than 100 military vehicles are expected to be involved, including M1A2/Abrams tanks; Black Hawk, Apache and Chinook helicopters, Bradley fighting vehicles and more, according to a handout from the Army.

The parade will be followed by a parachute jump by the Army's Golden Knights, plus a concert and fireworks.

Trump is expected to speak, delivering "remarks celebrating 250 Years of the U.S. Army’s exceptional service, significant achievements, and enduring legacy," according to America250's website.

Yay and congratulations to the US Army for bravely defending our country for 250 years.

Boo to the YUUUUGGGGEE military parade wasting tens of millions of dollars. The Army doesn't need nor did they even want it. I thought we were trying to pay down the debt to save our country after decades of mis management of Democrat Presidents.

The price of the parade obviously wouldn't pay off the debt but at least it could make a down payment.

This is just another boondoggle massive waste of money which we see so much of from this administration.

Sadly I will have to miss it cuz I have other engagements.

I think you're right on this, though there is something to be said for a parade celebrating national pride. It might mean nothing to you, but will to some.   As Fergie points out on the other hand, a few millions on a debt the size we're dealing with, it's a drop in the proverbial bucket.

What a gesture it would be if the President, or Elon Musk, took a rounding error on their net worths and paid for the parade themselves?

Military parades have long been debated before Trump came into office and veterans/non veterans alike have always been split on it.  Some view it as honoring our military.  Some see it as not needing to have them is the reason America is so strong given that communist countries like North Korea have them often for propaganda purposes.  Memorial Day parades, Veteran day parades, singing the National Anthem, and pre game fly overs at sporting events do the job just fine.  I respect both sides views on it but the left complaining about it really being a vanity parade because it happens to fall on Trump's birthday is just stupid imo.  I think the 250th anniversary is a significant enough milestone that a parade is warranted despite the cost.

Exactly.

The 250th anniversary of the United States, also known as the Semiquincentennial, will be celebrated on July 4, 2026, the date of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The year-long America250 initiative, launched officially on Memorial Day 2025, will involve various events and activities to commemorate this historic milestone.

Will you grouse about the 'cost' in 2026 also ?

Oh oh!!  Rand Paul has TDS!!!

“I love parades but I’m not really excited about $40 million for a parade,”  “I don’t really think the symbolism of tanks and missiles is really what we’re all about.”

“If you ask me about a military parade, all the images that come to mind, the first images, are of the Soviet Union and North Korea,” he added.

OMG  so dose Johnny K!

Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.) also said he would spend the money on other things.

“The United States of America is the most powerful country in all of human history,” Kennedy told Fox News. “We’re a lion, and a lion doesn’t have to tell you it’s a lion. Everybody else in the jungle knows, and we’re a lion. I would save the money, but if the president wants to have a parade, he’s the President, and I’m not.”

I'm not complaining about the cost.  It's peanuts in the grand scheme of things.

Plans for the parade, as first detailed by The Associated Press on Thursday, call for about 6,600 soldiers, 150 vehicles and 50 helicopters to follow a route from Arlington, Virginia, to the National Mall. Until recently, the Army’s birthday festival plans did not include a massive parade, which officials say will cost tens of millions of dollars.

But Trump has long wanted a military parade, and discussions with the Pentagon about having one in conjunction with the birthday festival began less than two months ago.

On my Birthday I’m going to honor those that sacrificed by doing things that give me attention. But it will be about them. Not me. Even though it’s my birthday. It’s not about me. I promise. Go troops!

I assume you dont have a problem with PBS&NPR getting 500 mil then?  I mean its not as educational as a parade but it does provide value.

Why is there a military parade on June 14th?

The United States Army 250th Anniversary Parade is scheduled to take place on June 14, 2025, in Washington, D.C., United States, to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States Army, the oldest of the six branches of the United States Armed Forces.

In a few days, the nation's capital will host its largest military parade in decades

— filled with thousands of marching soldiers, rows of tanks, parachute jumps and flyovers.

The event on Saturday marks the U.S. Army's 250th anniversary. It also happens to fall on President Trump's 79th birthday, as well as Flag Day.

The Army has been preparing a celebration for over a year
