Beane might be doing that. If he was going to restructure someone to get under the cap he could have done that already too. Can you name a player that was on the roster the year before that they cut after 6/1 and before Training Camp? I can't. Meanwhile we've done many restructures around that time and past that point. I also mentioned extensions. They may be working on extensions for guys like Connor McGovern, David Edwards, or maybe even James Cook. Extensions take two parties and isn't something that happens quickly. They may be thinking they can do one or more of them and won't have to do any restructures. Or are waiting to see what they can or can't get done before they determine how much they want to restructure on the available levers they haven't pulled yet. But I'll play along with your idea. Who do you see as a Possible cut? Bc outside of what we already did with Von Miller, Kaiir Elam (Trade), and Sam Martin - I'm not seeing anyone on the roster that makes sense. The three names I see all the time though are: - Curtis Samuel: Cutting him would cost us 8.6m in Dead Money and would save us just $430,000. Even if he did save us money, our WR core is considered pretty lacking even with him. Letting him go would leave us in a really rough position. - AJ Epenesa: Cutting him would save us 6.2m and cost us 1.3m in Dead Money. The problem there is that we don't get Hoecht until Week 8, Joey Bosa is injury prone, and has already gotten injured before we've even arrived at Training Camp. We always carry 5 DE's. If the season started tomorrow and we had moved on from Epenesa, we'd have Groot, Jackson, and Solomon... and that's it. We have no idea what Jackson will be in the NFL (Solomon's a relative unknown as well) and knowing McDermott, I don't see him starting a Round 3 Rookie right out of the gate. Let alone before we've even seen him in Training Camp. Which even if Bosa is healthy, he'd essentially have to be - as I don't think they're going to use Bosa for 50% or more of snaps. - Daquan Jones: Cutting him would cost us 3.9m in Dead Money and save us 5.5m on the Cap. But it's sort of the same thing with him as Epenesa. We always carry at least 5 DT's. We don't get Ogunjobi until Week 8. Moving on from him would leave us with Oliver, Sanders, Walker, and Carter and that's it. And a complete mess at 1T. He's pretty much our only True 1T. It would leave us with TJ Sanders (a True 3T who has been said will play at 3T, that we may or may not slide next to Oliver only on obvious passing downs), Deone Walker (we'll probably put him at 1T bc of his size, but plays more like a big bodied 3T and is still trying to get to 100% after a bad back), and Dewayne Carter (in my eyes and the eyes of many, he's a True 3T. He didn't play 1T in College and doesn't really fit there. Beane says he'll be tried at both positions this offseason, but I'm not seeing it). I don't think I have to say Samuel will not be cut. When it comes to AJE and Jones, I don't think you can move on from either until after Week 6 when Hoecht and Ogunjobi return. Moving on from either would leave us shorthanded as is and in a *really* rough spot if there's any injuries before Week 8 (which is likely). The absolute earliest you could consider either is after Training Camp (I wouldn't even do it then), when you've evaluated guys like Jackson, Solomon, Sanders, Walker, and Carter in the DE and 1T spots. And that does nothing to clear cap now and get Hairston, Sanders, and Walker under contract. And if they felt good about the DE and DT positions post Draft without them, they'd have been moved on from in the giant list of players league wide that were cut for Rookies in Late April and Early May. All I am saying is a June 1st cut is possible. Just like a restructure or extension. 3 rookies need to be signed and Beane doesn't have enough right now to do that, so something is going to happen. He could have done the restructure but hasn't yet. Quote
Big Turk Posted yesterday at 12:04 AM Posted yesterday at 12:04 AM Draft pick contracts nowadays are almost always a formality that at most is held up over minor things like offset language...dollar amounts are already set in stone Quote
