The parade of people who are openly discussing the physical and mental decline of the nation's oldest-ever president continues to grow. And those voices are not all coming from the Fox News Channel or other conservative outlets.

 

This week their ranks were joined by two former aides to President Barack Obama who worked directly with Joe Biden when he was the veep. Appearing on the "Pod Save America" podcast, Jon Favreau, Obama's chief speechwriter, expressed concern and exasperation over Biden's recent appearances. Favreau called Biden's age "a very real issue." He referred to him as "frail" and "mumbly" while also referencing the way Biden "shuffles" around and is unsteady

This week, President Joe Biden made a surprise appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” The chat comes after the president refused a softball Super Bowl interview for the second straight year. He rarely gives press conferences and hasn’t done any serious, one-on-one interviews in months.

 

The appearance also took place weeks after a brutal Special Counsel report that described the 81-year-old as an “elderly man with a poor memory” who could not stand trial for allegedly mishandling classified documents.

 

Biden didn’t do much to assuage concerns about his age during the NBC appearance. The conservative site Breitbart News noted Biden “appeared disoriented at times and struggled to complete many of his thoughts.” The octogenarian also claimed it was 2020, not 2024 and that Donald Trump was still in the Oval Office.

 

Brutal.

 

Most media outlets danced around Biden’s latest gaffes. They cherry-picked his quips and comments, preventing readers from grasping how poorly he faired during the conversation.

AEI’s Danielle Pletka is not a fan of President Trump, so I take her pulling on the fire alarm about President Biden at face value:

 

What we hear from members of congress is … terrible. Democrats too.

 

Those who talk the president tell of a man who can’t go beyond the words on the page in front of him. He can’t converse on matters of substance. He can deliver talking points, but can’t negotiate with any seriousness. That’s one of the reasons — though far from the only one — why Congress can’t move forward on an emergency supplemental. Republicans are in complete turmoil, but talks with the White House are not helping.

 

Then there are the foreign leaders. Among themselves — and an open secret in DC’s embassies — they talk about a president who is confused, unsure of the subject matter under discussion, distant, disconnected, and all too often incomprehensible.

 

This is the man with the nuclear football. The man who commands our armed forces. It doesn’t matter whether you like the Democrats or hate them. The office is critically important, and it is almost vacant.

Joe Biden told reporters today, who asked about his response to Democrats who are concerned about his bad poll numbers, that he’s actually won the last five polls against Trump and they are only looking at the one from the New York times.

BIDEN: “My poll numbers? The last five polls you guys don’t report. I’m winning — five! Five in a row!”

 

 

 

But this isn’t even remotely true, no matter whether you look at RCP or Five Thirty Eight.

 

Biden is delusional, which is nothing new. But hey, I hope he keeps believing that he’s ahead in the race for the rest of the year.

Biden Crashes After SOTU: Struggle to Read Teleprompter Is Concerning and Jill's Face Is Something Else

 

 

After the State of the Union address, in which some described Joe Biden as amped up — with some even speculating on whether he was given something to help pump him up — we're now back to the same old Joe. 

 

But it seems even worse. He was doing a virtual campaign event on Saturday, but even with his handler wife by his side, he was clearly struggling not only to read the teleprompter but to have any kind of coherence and to understand what he was trying to say.

Much of the conversation with Hur is littered with barely incoherent answers and spiraling word salads. Though, the reader is occasionally entertained by Biden’s blowhard-y non-sequiturs. We learn about Biden’s Corvette — twice. We learn that the president is a frustrated architect but an excellent archer. Biden jokes that there might be risqué pictures of Dr. First Lady Jill Biden.

 

Then again, the fact that the entire two-day interview isn’t a giant nonsensical rant is not as impressive as his defenders might believe. The president is, indeed, completely coherent at times. And those are the times he’s probably lying. ...

 

So, the fact remains that there are two ways to look at the Hur report. Either the president lacks the mental acuity to be charged for breaking the law, or he should be charged for breaking the law. Pick one.
