I have an early 3rd on him but with the obvious scheme fit I think end of round 2 for the Bills could be in play.

Interested in what you like/don’t like about Jones.  You seem to like him quite a bit more than most draft analysts.  I know that you watch lots of video on these guys.

Not very exciting but the Bills don't have a ton of holes this year and I tried to find guys that could not only fill a rotational role this year but could compete for starting spots while being developed.

Looking ahead with the trades I made the Bills 2022 draft would look like this...

Buffalo's picks: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th

Aquired from other teams: SF 2nd, SF 3rd, SF 3rd, Philly 3rd, NYJ 4th, Sea 5th, TB 5th, Balt 5th, Atl 7th (Smith trade)

Knowing some of the players are getting a little older and wanting to extend the window I looked toward a ton of draft capital next season - especially with the cap expected to rise back up.   12 picks in the first 5 rounds does that.

With so few holes and basically no starting spots available I still like my first draft the best (Which I quoted above).  The team has ageing players and the draft capital added would allow them to target players they love and fill a need or potential need next year.

That being said I ran it again this morning with no trades and took the BPA/highest ranked except in the first round where I passed on Justin Fields - there was no way I was going to take a QB in the 1st round so I took the 2nd ranked BPA.   I admit I was suprised the board fell to allow these selections.

Without trading I think this turned out real nice...

I didn't think I liked him that much to tell the truth.... he isn't generally my sort of pass rusher. I like rushers with good hands and Jones's hands are a bit of a weakness but he is almost the prototypical McDermott edge. Physically he reminds me a lot of a younger Mario Addison and I see little bits of Kony Ealy who the Panthers drafted when McDermott and Beane were there in him too in that he has a really nice burst off the line. Ealy also needed work on his hand technique coming out but did have the advantage of longer arms. I think he is an early third round guy but pass rushers get pushed up the board because of positional value and the athletic traits are there for Jones you would expect the hand technique to be something that could be improved with good coaching.

I suppose I should back up my selection process with explination. So here we go.

As you can see I traded down from 30 and 174 for 36 and 81, staying in the meat of the draft. Top 3 rounds.

36.

Creed Humphrey

OC Oklahoma

This one's easy, at the top of the second getting him is our morse replacement that can also play guard. Nuf said.

61.

Carlos Basham Jr.

EDGE Wake Forest

This one's easy to, I have to quell the hard on everyone had for him. Oh and he was there.

81.

Tyson Campbell

CB Georgia.

Finally best player available that also fit a need. Does he need coaching and work, yes. But if he doesn't show out at corner he could add weight and become a solid safety.

93.

Tyler Shelvin

DT LSU.

Self explanatory, same hard on for 1 tech,

161.

Divine Deablo

S Virginia Tech.

This one is interesting, is he a safety, big nickel, coverage LB. Well I guess that will be for McFrazier to decide.

213.

Robert Jones

OG Middle Tennessee

This is a big nasty dude that I think given the chance could surprise.

236.

Wyatt Hubert

EDGE Kansas State

You see this guy in almost every draft I do, every time I watch his film. He's just relentless and I swear he's gonna do the predator stance like clay matthews after he makes a play. I like that passion.

I know what your thinking, if campbell doesn't work out, we're left without a corner in the first three rounds. Well over these last 3 years when breane speaks highly of somebody I have a tendency to believe him. So dane jackson is still there. He's got game and is still learning. Go dane.

No trades made in this one. Went heavy on defense:

Round 1 (#30): Kwity Paye (EDGE - Michigan) -> Debated between Paye and Farley here but Farley's balky back worries me a little and I felt there would be better value later at CB than at Edge.

Round 2 (#61): Dyami Brown (WR - North Carolina) ->I just like this kid. Great vertical threat who can get deep and play in the slot or outside.

Round 3 (#93): Paulson Adebo (CB - Stanford) -> Good size and fit in McD's zone. Versatile and I find myself taking him in a lot of mocks.

Round 5 (#161): Robert Hainsey (OT - Notre Dame) -> Swing tackle. Adds youth and depth at the OT spot.

Round 5 (#174): Joshuah Bledsoe (S - Missouri) -> An infusion of youth at the third S spot and a 'Big Nickel' candidate.

Round 6 (#213): Israel Mukuamu (CB - South Carolina) -> Another guy who keeps showing up late and I can't ignore. I don't think he lasts this long. Great size and more competition at CB and another possible Big Nickel candidate.

Round 7 (#236): Khyiris Tonga (DT - BYU) -> Help for the DL at the 1 tech.

My biggest regret with this mock was not grabbing an interior OL and maybe a RB later. Going heavy at CB/S limited my options. Otherwise, I was happy with it.

That’d be an amazing draft, but I’d be shocked of any of your first 3 picks are actually available in those slots.  If they are, I hope the Chiefs jump you 3 times.

Game! And we still have our top pick next year. Now let’s go win a super bowl 🥳

You think that top 3 wins us a super bowl. I want some of that, and I thought some vodka was kinda sweet., We're never drafting for now, we're drafting for 1-3 years down the road. How many times does breane have to say it. He's building for longevity. We've got our quarterback, thats 85 percent of the problem.
