Trump's Legal Machine Grinds to a Halt

Well there it is. Comments on the Internet are evidence of rigged election and mail slowdowns. This is what we kinda knew Trump was relying on and now we really know. I assume more reasonable Trump supporters are seeing this sham by now.

I ordered my mail-in-ballot here in Virginia. It didn’t come when it send it sent. I just emailed the election board and they sent me a new one. Said if the other one shows up to just trash it.

If my second one didn’t come, I had a backup plan to put in a provisional ballot.

It’s not like this is a big deal.

One of the reasons many backed out is because of personal attacks they got, as well as threats. Totally despicable behavior, fanned by The Lincoln Project, a group I saw as an important, effective, and good tool in defeating Trump. But populism often goes too far and this in this case, they did IMO.

I tend to believe that if there was indeed fraud and these lawyers did indeed believe they were fighting for free and fair elections unblemished by fraud, the very core of democracy, they would not have backed out.  Indeed, they would have been duty bound to continue. However, given the scarcity of evidence of fraud, they were in fact working to undermine the election, the core of democracy, all for some money.  It simply wasn't worth it to be on the wrong side and assist in a coup.

Federal judge in GA dismisses lawsuits brought by Powell - because they are dumb :)

A federal judge in Georgia dismissed two motions on Monday morning brought by attorney Sidney Powell aimed at reversing the election results in that state.

“The plaintiffs do not have standing to bring these claims,” Judge Timothy Batten ruled from the bench immediately following about an hour of arguments.

Judge Batten also dissolved the temporary restraining order that stopped election officials from clearing the latest election data from Dominion voting machines in Cobb, Gwinnett and Cherokee Counties. Election officials in Georgia have said the machines will be needed for early voting that starts in the Senate runoff election in a week.

Batten further said that the plaintiffs waited too long to take such action. “This suit could have been brought months ago before the election, at the time the machines were adopted. The relief they seek, this court cannot grant.”

Finally, Batten called the relief Powell was seeking “the most extraordinary relief ever sought in any federal court,” as it pertains to elections. “They want to substitute the judgement of this court for that of two and a half million Georgia voters who voted for Joe Biden. This I am unwilling to do.”

There's a special amount of bitter satisfaction us GA voters get in all of this.

Ironically, in 2016, this is exactly what GA Gov Brian Kemp (then the SoS who oversaw the election) did to prevent any investigation into voter fraud from being done.

From 2016-2017, when the GOP was still winning GA:

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/georgia-election-server-wiped-after-suit-filed

Quote

Plaintiffs in the lawsuit, who are mostly Georgia voters, want to scrap the state’s 15-year-old vote-management system — particularly its 27,000 AccuVote touchscreen voting machines, hackable devices that don’t use paper ballots or keep hardcopy proof of voter intent. The plaintiffs were counting on an independent security review of the Kennesaw server, which held electronic poll book data and ballot definitions for counties, to demonstrate the system’s unreliability...

The server data could have revealed whether Georgia’s most recent elections were compromised by malicious hackers. The plaintiffs contend that the results of both last November’s election and a special June 20 congressional runoff— won by Kemp’s predecessor, Karen Handel — cannot be trusted....

Kemp and his GOP allies insist Georgia’s elections system is secure...

GA Democrats weren't even allowed to question the result, get a recount, or do any investigating because Kemp and the rest of the GOP made sure all the evidence was destroyed in unprecedented quickness.

Imagine if Trump wanted to do these recounts and GA said "Sorry, we already destroyed the data, you'll just have to trust us". That is what we had to deal with in 2016.

So enjoy your recounts. I'm enjoying watching Trump lose my state over and over and over.

Texas AG Paxton sues swing states for basically having "unconstitutional" elections.

Same repackaging of the argument against mail-in ballots that has failed at every state level 1st for failing the test of missing appropriate opportunities and formats for arguing against and prohibiting the practice, 2nd for failing to show systemic fraud that proves disenfranchisement of eligible voters.

My take is that since Paxton is corrupt and feeling the heat under FBI investigation, Trump either dangled a pardon in front of him or he sought him out for one offering his legal services in exchange.

U.S. Supreme Court rejects Republican challenge to Biden's Pennsylvania win

Quote

There were no noted dissents from any of the justices on the court, which has a 6-3 conservative majority including three Trump appointees. Trump had urged the Republican-led Senate to confirm his most recent nominee, Justice Amy Coney Barrett, before Election Day so she could participate in any election-related cases.

The U.S. Constitution  gives each state wide latitude in how they run their elections and how they select their electors....... Texas does not have legal standing to sue to make other states run their elections, count their ballots, or choose their electors the way TEXAS thinks it should be done........  And consequently SCOTUS will also reject that case ......... It's really pathetic at this point.....Trump has more lawyers with Covid than he has wins.....

8 other AG's joined the case.  Are they all looking for pardons?

Whatever the standing or merits issues are, your conspiracy theory is unjustified.

The Texas case has very little to do with "fraud".

They ruled on whether an injunction should be issued, not on the merits of the case.

Though, you're right that it's a loss for the PA guy who brought the case.  I'm not sure this decision rises to GFY level.

The Texas case (IF it gets to the merits, BIG if) isn't about Texas complaining about the content of the other states' laws.  Texas is  saying that the elections officials in the other states didn't follow their own laws without leave of the legislature.

How did these states not follow their own laws?  The only issue I'm aware of is Pennsylvania allowing ballots to be received after election day if they were post marked by election day.  Those ballots were segregated.  I believe that case is still pending, but has no chance of changing the outcome of the election.  Trump should want those ballots to be counted since he is so far behind.  Besides, Its fun to watch him lose a state again and again and again.
