Ryan is coming off a career year and is a top 10 zone CB in the league. mgk makes a more valid point - that we can’t afford another 10 mill for a CB at this juncture. I agree. But given the market, Ryan may take 5 mill plus incentives. he is a scheme fit, can cover inside and outside and brings safety position versatility as well. maybe worth it at 5 mill + incentives esp if it looks like we won’t be on the hook for incentive pay to josh norman. Ryan saw the field a lot more than Norman, so his suckage was more cumulative, I suppose. If Norman had seen the same amount of passes his way, he was pacing to give up 17 TDs. It’s really remarkable just how bad he was. I suppose if you’re trying to plug someone in for a historically inept CB in Josh Norman, Ryan’s a perfect fit. If you want to save money without a drop off in production, you could just play 10 on 11 and hire me to yell “DROP IT DROP IT DROP IT” at my television. Anyone who thinks Logan Ryan had a career year needs to think again. He was dreadful last year when asked to play more outside. See my post above for the numbers. Logan Ryan is a slot corner only. No argument from me there. Logan Ryan was worse. That is why he remains unsigned. There is no mystery. NFL teams have his tape. Norman might be washed up. There is a chance he is. But I saw a guy who had jacked it in. He was walking on plays at times. I think there is a chance that the move to the Bills reinvigorates him. You aren't getting peak 2015 Josh Norman. I’d love to know what scheme change is going to turn a guy who allowed 15 TDs on 132 targets over the past two seasons into a serviceable player. I do think there is a need for some corner depth if the Norman issue is going to linger. It just shouldn't be Logan Ryan. If Taron Johnson had just gone down for the year, that would be different. Logan Ryan would be a good fit in that spot (though expensive for a slot corner, which is exactly why his agent is talking him up as a safety). At the moment if Norman can't go the depth chart is: CB1 - White CB2 - Wallace NCB - Taron CB4 - Dane Jackson CB5 - Cam Lewis NCB - Siran Neal I think they would want at least one of those backup outside jobs to be filled by a guy who has taken snaps in an NFL game. One thought from the Sirius training camp show yesterday stuck out on the Beane slot. He said to Pat and Mills in this odd off season, they proactively signed a number of veteran free agents to provide depth and needed position groups. His rationale was he needs guys that can come in and use their experience to contribute to the team. In a normal year, we would be working out more UDFA and can find some gems. I’m paraphrasing, but he has prepared in this off season for not only a three deep option at each position group, but also in all three phases of coaching, so who is option 1, 2, and 3 on who calls the game given a positive test for COVID. It was a revealing interview and gave a little more info. (Nothing earth shattering) than we typically get on a WGR interview. For those who have on their phone the Bills camp tour is now up on demand on Sirius.
