WHO COULD HAVE SEEN THIS COMING?

Poll finds surge in loneliness among older adults during pandemic.

and let me tell you, after decades of working with seniors,

this is NO small thing.

My best friend and co-worker has not returned to work.  He's 62 and is very worried about how this virus could hurt him.  He said he went to a restaurant for the first time in 6 months (and he's a big foodie) and he said he felt very uncomfortable being in public.  That is NO way to go through life.  I feel really bad for him.  He's not that old but has had some health issues which concerns him.  I've been trying to get him to get healthier for years.  Now maybe he'll listen to me.

Do you tell him to wear a mask in public?  That’s a good way of staying healthy.

How many can he kill? He is going to have more rallies, I bet Trump can kill tens of thousands more of his own supporters.

Just watched her appearance on Tucker. Language barrier was tough, but she claims to have nucleotide sequence data that proves it could not have originated from nature...so not from a wet market. Major claim is that it was a purposely engineered virus, not one that was simply being cultured in a government lab and managed to escape outside. I still haven't read her recently published paper and she says another will be published soon. Like many things these days this at minimum deserves more attention from what few honest journalists remain.

It makes sense.  If you've got an aging, expensive elderly population...

Everyday 8000 people die in the US.
what is it now?

It's not 1000 a day.

Only low info Karens glued to CNN think this.

The rolling averages are what to look at bc these "daily" death counts often include numbers from weeks ago.  Regardless, the main takeaway which of course, our friends on the far left refuse to acknowledge, is the very reason for mitigation (overwhelmed hospitals) HAS NEVER HAPPENED.  That was THE DEAL. DO NOT ALL GET IT AT ONCE.  Well, over 25% of us got it.  How did we hold up?  What were the models telling us hospitalizations would be again WITH mitigation:

*checks tape*

Every state was doing modeling.  PA was predicted in late March that it would see 100,000 hospitalizations.  100,000!  In Pennsylvania.  With Distancing.  https://www.post-gazette.com/news/health/2020/03/27/COVID-19-coronavirus-University-Pittsburgh-hospitalization-FRED-pandemic-model-case-study/stories/202003230067

Pennsylvania has had 150K "cases!"  Yet this was the stuff States were telling their people.  No one has been fired I'm assuming.

National models said the U.S. would see 20 million hospitalizations in worst case scenarios.

So far:  389,000.  Total.  We have over 1 million beds available daily.  Total ICUs:  18K.

https://covidtracking.com/data/national/hospitalization

For a month we've been around 700-800 deaths "with Covid" a day.  Remember, the CDC has said less than 10% are actually from Covid.

7300 Americans die from something else everyday.  You can wear a mask to try and prevent one of those causes from happening to you it would be just as effective as it is against Covid.

What are the average deaths in the US so far this year compared to the average year?

They are higher. That’s how we measure there’s a pandemic. This CDC chart shows the pandemic level (orange line) vs observed, with the + indicating weeks showing deaths in excess of defined pandemic levels.

In other news, good article highlighting how Europe is adopting the Republican approach to the virus finally. Imagine this world...Dems mock the Euros and Reps follow them.

Having abandoned hopes of eradicating the virus or developing a vaccine within weeks, Europeans have largely gone back to work and school, leading lives as normally as possible amid an enduring pandemic that has already killed nearly 215,000 in Europe.

The approach contrasts sharply to the United States, where restrictions to protect against the virus have been politically divisive and where many regions have pushed ahead with reopening schools, shops and restaurants without having baseline protocols in place. The result has been nearly as many deaths as in Europe, though among a far smaller population.

I believe you're being rhetorical, but it's higher and but nobody will really know the full toll until time passes.  Seems to take 3 months to fill int he data.  THere was a good blip (excess death) that exceeds the normal death rate for the year so far (>200k).  As more time passes, I expect a similar lull in numbers as we've weeded out the weak population that the flu, cancer, etc would have killed later this year.  This opinion is terribly harsh, but so is life and death.  Deal with it.

By mid 2021 let's get back together and dissect the numbers, I think we'll see this sucked, but not as bad as everyone wants it to be.
