The Real Buffalo Joe Posted November 26, 2019 Share Posted November 26, 2019 This does bring up another thing that I've always wondered. Guys who love going to the hardware store. I get doing things around the house to not have to pay someone else to do it. But it's still a chore and I'd rather be doing like a million different things besides fixing things around the house. After having to remove the entire wiper arm from the car, I finally got the rear wiper changed. Went to Auto Zone to try and exchange the passenger side. Dude behind the counter was able to get the incorrect adapter out and snap the correct one in. It was raining fairly heavily, but I told the guy I wanted to make sure it would go on. So I ran out, popped the old one off (again) and could NOT, for the life of me, get the goddamn new one on. I go back in and say I'm really sorry, but I can't get the damn thing on. Woman behind the counter comes out and takes the wiper blade from me (not rudely) and says, "this is for the rear window, right?" I said, "no ... passenger side." She laughs and says, "Ha! What kind of car do you drive? It must be tiny!!" She proceeds to get her coat, give me a dirty look whilst donning it, then goes out and puts the wiper blade on in less than 3 seconds. I went back inside to discard the old wiper blade and made sure to thank her, again, before I left, to which I got a, "yeah, no problem," along with a look that told me she was clearly perturbed. But to be honest ... I can't blame her one bit! Ha! I feel your pain, my wife's car battery died a few weeks back, mind you I never use her car but we got it to the Autozone to change the battery, guy was nice enough to do it but damned if I could open up the hood on her car. Same. I can change a tire if needed. I can jumpstart when needed. I've been showed how to change the oil. But is it really worth the $10 you save doing it yourself, when it also takes twice as long? I brought it in to the mechanic. They determined that there was some sort of a vacuum seal broken somewhere. Those things go through oil to the point of having to add a quart somewhere between oil changes. Come to find out, when I'd last put a quart in, I didn't properly secure the oil cap. That was the "leak." Talk about feeling like a schmuck. It cost me $100 for them to figure out that they just needed to put the oil cap on straight. I've never done oil. i could look it up and figure it out, but it's just not worth the time or mess. same goes with things around the house. if someone can do it a bit better, and faster, they're hired. i didn't even clean up my own leaves this year due to time and weather. it was worth every penny. They will hold up to the vibration of the harsh automobile environment. That's why they tend to bury batteries now... Or put in trunk, under back seat, etc... Insulate the thing to. Heat & humidity will destroy a battery. Constant temp swings. SUVs, trucks, 4x4 vibration is a killer. Glass mat you can even turn sideways without all that liquid sloshing around. A battery will last longer in N.Dakota than Miami. If you got a little extra, go AGM. Insulate and bury that ***** -er... Tack down tight. P.I.T.A. to swap, but will last longer.
