A fair amount of that is user taxes such as the tax on fuel.  Taxes are going to be imperfect and there is a need for services but income taxes are perhaps the most arbitrary way to service the state.

you can delineate and label them however you like, a tax is a tax by any other name. disguising them is by design.

Come on!... What's better than a doable Socialist?

"But what does Ocasio-Cortez know about tax policy? “A lot,” said the headline of an opinion piece Saturday in The New York Times by Nobel economics laureate Paul Krugman. A similar tax rate was imposed in the U.S. for 35 years after World War II, which included some of the “most successful periods of economic growth in history,” Krugman wrote.

Tax cuts for the ultra wealthy mean far less to them than cuts for people with modest incomes, Krugman noted. And extra money in millions of hands boosts spending.

“A policy that makes the rich a bit poorer will affect only a handful of people, and will barely affect their life satisfaction, since they will still be able to buy whatever they want,” Krugman wrote"

Where there is smoke, there is fire... Oops.

Sure we are recipients.  Armed individuals.  Which ones? Be thankful their not the Taliban wanting your head rolling down the stairs.

Pick your poison.

The rich will just find a way to get that money off shore doing business as a foreign entity operating in the US.  That aside the mentality has changed from the 1950's that while I am sure that the rich did not enjoy paying their taxes they did not seek detours around taxes like they do today.  Part of that could be many parts of the world did not appear to be politically stable then as they are today.

if you calculate all the taxes you pay today, it is pretty close to over 50% of your income.

I pay more than that now on earned income without adding in sales tax, taxes on utilities, etc.   ?  It kinda sucks. And leaves me no incentive to earn more unless I am certain I can get past the social security cap (I am technically retired, but have a side gig).

Indentured to who?  Like as a whole, we really have it rough... Not!

Indentured to the Anerican system?  This is laughable.  Like the NFL players saying they are slaves.

You feel your position too deeply.  Must have too much time on your hands to think about things.  Master needs to keep you busy.

Exactly what you'd say to a slave who started to think for themselves.

Yeah.  But there is a threshold.

Can think for themselves, but when does the individual thinking become counter-productive?

I think we are reaching it.

Give him more debt. That will shut him up.

Exactly the opposite!  Cause them to fight!

Or... Just default.
