...only recently I'd bet.....rumor was their viewership went up 25% once he started........if my math is correct, from 4 to 5 = 25%, right??............

But if he quit watching it the viewership would only go down 20%.

So if everyone remembers it wasn’t too long ago where the media was wondering why the Trump administration didn’t unilaterally shut down the country.   Then when Trump was musing about the possibility of opening it up and him having authority to do so he was lambasted.    Now that he has backed off of it and set the guidelines and is leaving it up to the states I decided to check out the coverage from the mainstream and they are all basically parroting the same thing.   “Trump is punting the decision to the states” or Trump is telling the states “You are on your own”.

They don’t even hide their bias any longer.

I’ve never understood why this particular issue is hard for so many to grasp. No level of government can force a business to OPEN. That’s not the key here. The issue is whether the federal government can override a governor’s directive to release local restrictions. The answer is ‘yes’ the federal government can, and Trump’s saying they will if they see the virus getting out of hand in a particular region. Pretty simple really and should not be controversial.

That's not what I was talking about.

Meanwhile, Republicans and Fox News have offered up school children and the elderly, thrown out every possible whataboutism to diminish the Americans we have lost.

This does not erase that in ONE MONTH we have already lost 35,000 Americans, more than in 3 years of fighting the Korean War!

4,591 people died yesterday alone.

Republicans are repugnant.

There is no bottom:

“He acknowledged that the novel coronavirus is killing Americans — more than 33,000 as of early Friday — but also wondered why the economy would shut down over the pandemic but continues to function as people die from lung cancer, car crashes and pool drownings. (Unlike coronavirus, none of the causes of death listed by Dr. Phil are contagious.)”

After Fauci urged caution in reopening the economy, Fox News turned to Dr. Phil for a second opinion

My understanding is that since the governors shut down the states, only they can open them back up.  What part of the Constitution allows the Federal Government to over ride the State Governments?  This goes against the concept of Federalism and the 10th Amendment.

It does -- unless there's a declared emergency in every state, which there is. Fine print is a B word if you're a good consumer of information (which you continue to prove your'e not). But it's a moot point anyway. Trump's talking big (Art of the Deal), but words aren't action. It's designed to get people in line with his position.

You have to separate the words from the actions of all politicians, but doubly so with Trump due to both the biased/terrible coverage of his administration and his own (at times) self-defeating stream-of-consciousness style of speaking to the American public.

I'm curious as to where the fine print is.  I have yet to see a reputable news organization agree with his position.

That and he lies his ass off.

I've posted this numerous times:

National Emergencies Act. Stafford Act. Presidential Emergency Actions Documents.   Look them up... well, as far as you can. Apparently, some powers are classified. (Isn't that scary?)

What the president has the ability to do, and what he eventually does may well be two different things. But, there is no question that these acts give him the final say when a disaster is national.

And for the follow-up questions sure to come, I wrote this too:

When the 50th state went to a declared national disaster (Wyoming on Saturday), things changed. That Uncle Sam Sugar-money comes with strings. Sometimes long strings.

Trump seems to like making a declarative line in the sand, makes conciliatory noises to bring people in so they are (or at least feel they are) part of the decisions,  and then he negotiates from there.  Push-pull.

Do I think he is going to do any of these things?  No idea. I sincerely hope not. Does he have the legal authority to do them? Apparently so.

You mean the same news organizations that got every bit of the Trump/Russia story wrong (most knowingly so) in order to lie to you? Gee. I wonder why that is?

Read the declaration(s) of the state of emergency.

Don't get your news from proven liars. Go to the source. Read and educate yourself first before taking in information from proven liars and manipulators. It's the only way to get through this massive disinformation war we're all engaged in (whether we know it or not, or accept it or not).
