Longest Playoff Win Droughts in the NFL

Just actually went through all the teams to see when the last time they won(in response to another question in a different thread so I figured I'd post the info).

The Bengals are the current leaders in this category but the Detroit Lions deserve a special mention because they have a record of playoff futility that might stand for all-time(in any sport).

Below I list the 10 longest playoff win droughts, the last team they beat in the playoffs and date, their starting QB for that game, the playoff record since then and the last year they made(and lost in) the playoffs.  Bills 4th on the list with the last win coming in 1995, although its more seasons than the Browns since the Browns ceased to exist for a few years and technically you could argue they should be 3rd with the Browns 4th- but hey, Its my list and I'm going by years- dammit!!

Top 10 Longest Playoff Win Droughts(in years):

  1. Bengals: 27 years(1990): Last Win: Houston Oilers(41-14 January 6th,1991), Starting QB: Boomer Esiason,  Playoff Record since: 0-7(2015)
  2. Lions: 26 years(1991): Last Win: Dallas Cowboys(38-6, January 5th, 1992), Starting QB: Erik Kramer, Playoff Record since: 0-8(2016) ***Honorable Mention of Futility: That was Detroit's ONLY playoff win since 1957(but hey, at least they won the championship that year), and from 1957 to 1991 they only made the playoffs 3 seasons(1970, 1982 and 1983 meaning they had 3 more lengthy streaks in there)...Lions Playoff Record since 1957: 1-12.  That has to be a record of futility that never gets broken...1 playoff win in 60 years....and we thought WE have it bad
  3. Browns: 23 years(1994): Last Win: New England Patriots(20-13, January 1st, 1995), Starting QB: Vinny Testeverde,  Playoff Record since: 0-2(2002)
  4. Bills: 22 years(1995): Last Win: Miami Dolphins(37-22, December 30th, 1995), Starting QB: Jim Kelly,  Playoff Record since: 0-4(1999)
  5. Dolphins: 17 years(2000): Last Win: Indianapolis Colts(23-17(OT), December 30th, 2000), Starting QB: Jay Fiedler, Playoff Record since: 0-4(2016)
  6. Raiders: 15 years(2002): Last Win: Tennessee Titans(41-24, January 9th, 2003), Starting QB: Rich Gannon, Playoff Record since: 0-2(2016)
  7. Buccaneers: 15 years(2002): Last Win: Oakland Raiders(48-21, SB XXXVII  January 26th, 2003), Starting QB: Brad Johnson,  Playoff Record since: 0-2(2007)
  8. Titans: 14 years(2003): Last Win: Baltimore Ravens(20-17, January 3rd, 2004), Starting QB: Steve McNair(RIP), Playoff Record since: 0-3(2008)
  9. Rams: 13 years(2004): Last Win: Seattle Seahawks(27-20, January 8th, 2005), Starting QB: Marc Bulger, Playoff Record since: 0-1(2004)
  10. Redskins: 12 years(2005): Last Win: Tampa Bay Buccaneers(17-10, January 7th, 2006), Starting QB: Mark Brunell, Playoff Record since: 0-4(2015)

*An additional honorable mention goes to the New Orleans Saints who took 33 years(1967-2000) to win their first playoff game...sadly they won a Super Bowl before the Bills even with that streak of futility...

Just now, Happy Gilmore said:

So you're saying we've been successful in something other than not making the playoffs...not winning a playoff game in 22 years.

Yeah...also that it could be worse...and in Detroits case a LOT worse, lol

Getting over the hump matters.  Don't care if we get blown out in a wild card game.

The Pittsburgh Pirates were in a similar boat as the Bills.  The season they finally got to the playoffs was exciting and for a brief time invigorated both players and fans.  It was quite special.  It reset expectations.  It also got that monkey off the back of that team that dogged them for nearly two decades.  It rewarded the patience of the fans.

(Since then, the front office has burned through all the good will that special season created - but that's another story.)

Yeah same with the BlueJays, Royals and Astros...

All the traditionally crappy teams for the past 30 years have gotten good with 2 of them winning championships...when is it our turn??

We need to have our next badge of shame ready in case we break the playoff drought this year.

Haha...at least we aren't #1 on the list...and the Lions streak of futility with 1 playoff win in 60 years is simply unfathomable...
