Thanks to "It", the box office during the month of September was abnormally booming. How can the month of October possibly keep up this gaudy pace. With bigger titles looming in the months of November & December ahead of us, this month will certainly do it's best to keep movie audiences interested. With Halloween on the calendar there is always going to be horror movies to keep those looking for a good scare excited. Although it will be impossible for any other horror movie this month to come close to scaring up the type of numbers that "It" has brought in, there will be some fresh stuff out there for horror fans. However, horror this month is taking more of a back seat this year, as drama will be at the forefront with many different offerings. Hubby had expressed interest in Blade Runner 2049, so we had planned on seeing it. Until we rewatched Blade Runner last night, and it brought back just how bored I was during the movie. We shall wait for the reviews from "real" people. However, if he wants to go I'll suck it up and go.

I am a huge fan of the original Blade Runner, but I am willing to concede the film is ultimately flawed and could have been a lot better. And I am speaking of the Director's Cut which is much better than the theatrical release.

However, for creating an other-worldly atmosphere that really takes the viewer to another time and place, I consider it one of the greatest films ever made. The score by Vangelis is beyond fantastic, and it plays a big role in the atmosphere.

Fast forward to the TV commercials for the new version. It looks freaking horrible.

I will watch it, but my expectations are set very low.

I'm wondering what others think about the old movie and the new one.

I was watching to see just how much they got wrong in 35 years. Basically everything. :P I am not that big a fan of noir from a film perspective, and honestly? Harrison Ford was terrible in Blade Runner (and I am a huge HF fan).

I didn't know Bautista was in Blade Runner 2049. I'll definitely see it in the theater then.

One of the reasons I'd suck it up and go if my husband insisted (and I am hoping he does not insist).

Well, I really like Blade Runner. I like noir if one means Out of the Past, The Third Man, The Big Sleep, etc., but not a fan of the B-movie genre as a whole.

As sci-fi noir, I thought Harrison Ford played Decker just right. It's not a glamorous lead role. Rutger Hauer steals the show in that degree, but that is fitting, as the redemptive thematic moment belongs to Roy Batty. I agree the director's cut is far preferable, though I have some nostalgia for the voice over version and don't absolutely hate it.

I rarely go see movies at the theater. The Artist was the last one, so you see how infrequent. I think I'd like to see the new Blade Runner on Imax, though.

The whole question of identity and the mix of interesting philosophical/theological questions with a rich, dystopic mythos makes the original and sequel worth contemplating.

Blade Runner is based on Philip K. Dick's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep, so the speculation regarding the future was further out than the film date might lead one to surmise.

Anyway, I know quite a few folks who think it dull and I can understand how they find it so (I find David Lean films dull, though they are cinematic masterpieces I suppose.)

Saw Blade Runner 2049 last night. Really, really good -- much better than the original in my opinion.

Just got back from watching it. Very good movie.

Slow pace, not that much action, high on style, low on dialogue.

Never heard of Sylvia Hoeks before, and I thought she had a great presence in this movie.

You may have not recognized her if you did see her before.

Sylvia Hoeks gained 16 pounds of muscle for Blade Runner 2049
To prepare for the role, Hoeks put her body through the wringer. “I worked out six hours a day, six days a week, to get 16 pounds of extra muscle,” she says. “Then on Sundays I couldn’t walk. But Luv will do anything to please her boss. So going into that struggle of training every day, I really found her motivation and her pain.”

Blade Runner?? Is Hollywood that out of ideas??

Not at all. 2049 is one of the most idea-filled movies I've seen in years. Best of all, it doen't pander to modern sensibilities for a nice, neat, linear, easy to follow (i.e., dumb) plot simply to make a ton of money....

Marv's Neighbor, in a lot of circumstances you are correct. There are plenty of awful movies that come from Hollywood, and there are too many re-makes and sequels out there.

However, there are some movies of this kind that turn out to be very good.

Lurker's explanation is spot on. "Blade Runner 2049" is not some cheap cash grab attempt by Hollywood. It's a very well made movie.
