Imo-JWill gone because ball security issues and I m thrilled

I think I know why Williams was cut and Barnyard kept.

Steve Tasker said several

Times in the game Thursday that the new run game is based on one cut and head upfield. Barnyard does it very well.

Makes perfect sense. Joe fits the new "scheme" and Jonathon does not. One thing this new staff has shown over an over again. Theyre schemers.

Respect "the process".

If that's true, then Shaddy doesn't fit either.

Tasker says a lot of dumb stuff. Exhibit one way his thought that Wenning had a shot at being QB3...

Fair play.

I was going off the last 5 regular seasons. Zero fumbles.

There's a difference between having ball security issues and having a defender make a helluva hit to jar the ball loose. I just think this staff values ball security and I agree that, a very good D and elite run game equates to wins.

Pretty tough to fumble if you don't touch the ball.

Banyard has 23 career carries over five years (with two, count em', two since 2014). DiMarco has ONE career carry in FIVE years!

Williams fumbled twice in less than 30 touches last year. Dimarco also has many more touches in the pass game. When has Baynard fumbled in a real game?

And I love it. I feel this staff has a clear and affirmative vision. Ball security, Top 10 D, Top 5 run game has been a recipe for success in every era of football.

Williams had 28 total touches last year and fumbled twice.

Meanwhile, Baynard, who is a similar runner ,has zero career fumbles. Dimarco has zero career fumbles. Tolbert hasn't fumbled in 5 years. Yes Taiwan has had fumble issues but I guess the staff feels he is more versatile with ST and adds a different dynamic with his elite speed. Oh and don't forget Tyrod Taylor who is an elite runner.

We have a proven elite run game for two years and a defense that looks noticably quicker and more aggressive. It's very realistic they finish top 10 or better and the run game is top 5 or better. Limit turnovers and this is an instant recipe for success and contention this year.

I'm getting a little tired of the tank talk. "McDermott doesn't care about winning" statements, I'm sure McD,Beane and Dennison hated their Super Bowl experience 2 years ago ,SMH. Give this team a few games and be prepared to be pleasently surprised, there's an obvious vision and motivation behind these moves. 10+ wins

Williams was a BIG step down from Gillislee in terms of following the design of the play.

That was where MG was so good......he executed Roman's design step for step......it was beautiful to watch after Shady fought the design so hard in Rex year one.

JWill though......he kinda' runs into traffic and see's what happens........and not with abandon or force.

He wasn't going to be as efficient as MG or McCoy and didn't bring the physical impact of Karlos........so he was going to be at least a step back from those 3.

What he CAN do..... that MG, Karlos and McCoy also did......was break away in the open field and finish.

Joe Banyard is nifty in traffic, follows blocks better and catches the ball naturally.......at times he looks like Thurman in that uniform with his style as he crosses the LOS.........but what he doesn't have is the HR ability in the open field.

The Bills lead the NFL in rushing last year because of big plays........they lead the NFL in those in general........and as much as I like Banyard I DON'T like Tolbert and Banyard if something happens to Shady.

As shallow as this roster is........I'd have liked to have seen them keep developing JWill.......if McCoy stays healthy it's not a problem........but if McCoy goes down it's an across the board drop-off......and it hasn't been that way in recent years.

I wanted to see J Will stay because he flashed versatility in preseason and also so we'd feel less upset that other 5th round pick Gilislee is gone....read above JWIll is eligible for practice squad - didn't know that and why the delay to sign him?

He has right to consider his options (if Bills made offer for PS) and may be looking at teams closer to home.

Bills also could pull option if he waits too long.

I truly thought Williams was going to be the future RB of this team, still can be if he makes it past waivers (PS eligible), not a real fan of Banyard, he didn't look to have the same burst that Williams does, not going to fret over a player who will probably only have about 120 snaps though, hopefully he does his job when called upon, this regime saw something in him that made Williams expendable so I'll trust their judgement.

I didn't hear the full discussion on the John Murphy Show, but apparently Joe Banyard played special teams and John Williams didn't. That may well have been the difference Beane and McDermott were looking at.

Perhaps but Tolbert and Taiwan also both play ST's and frankly Banyard ain't that fast for a small, short armed dude.......so I will be a little surprised if he's covering kicks with the All Star lineup of special teamers they have.

These ST units should be KICKASS even with Danny Crosshairs running them.

Williams fumbled twice in less than 30 touches last year.

Not saying JWill's in anywhere near the same zip code (or even time zone) talent-wise, but TT fumbled 9 times in his rookie year (4% of his 225 touches). A lot of people were down on him at the time for putting the ball on the carpet too much. But like most young backs, he got better at ball control in years 2 and 3. Same with Joe Cribbs and Travis Henry.

Williams' 2 fumbles on 29 touches (6.8%) was certainly a problem. But second year players usually get better and there were no signs it was an issue this year.

My whole dislike of keeping Banyard over Williams has more to do with the long parade of coaches and GMs who would rather bet on older "known quanty" vets with little upside vs. keeping young guys with promise and working to develop them. It may be a safer way to go in the No Fun League but IMO all it gets you is 17 years of mediocrity...

And this whole thing about special teams. There are 27 non-starter, non-specialist, non-backup QB players available for ST. If most back-up OL and DL are excluded, that cuts it down to probably 20-22 guys. There should be room to carry a RB2 (or WR3 etc.) if he can be someone getting 8-10 touches to spell a starter.

The mental gymnasts here are amazing. I am just going to tune in more and more to see posts like this. I wish there was a Homer Olympics, because I think we'd field a great team. The way they explain everything, it is a win, no matter what!

Bills lose, we cut some fat and got picks for the future. So many problems with this... We added a lot of fat. I mean, Webb can play ST, but that is all he can play at an NFL level. Honestly, I'd rather have a competitive RB #2 than a Taiwan (another "ST stud", just not an NFL calibre RB). The ST better be the best in the league with how much they are making excuses for their poor decisions.

We needed to suck really bad and get a FQB in the draft! We have not done this since Losman. Many problems with this too... Like the failure rate.

Bills get 7 wins. They'll claim we improved as a team, since all the talent is gone and we got some wins. Still ignoring the geriatric state of the Bills.

Seriously, I doubt the Bills lose to the Jets, but hearing "we are finally tanking properly" and "this is what the franchise needs to do" would totally be worth it.

Also, cannot wait until Tolbert turns into dust after his first game. I guess, he was a good ST player, too?
