For those too young to have had the opportunity to see 1980's concerts, here is one to show you what they were like.  A lot of depth.  They even have a little game of Name That Tune worked in from 1:27 until 3:23.

This is a charity benefit song for teen cancer.  If you're not familiar with the song, it is from the soundtrack to Local Hero and Knopfler often plays it as the final encore in his concerts.  I think the list of contributors qualifies as impressive.

Quote

Full list of contributors: Joan Armatrading, Jeff Beck, Richard Bennett, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Brown, James Burton, Jonathan Cain, Paul Carrack, Eric Clapton, Ry Cooder, Jim Cox, Steve Cropper, Sheryl Crow, Danny Cummings, Roger Daltrey, Duane Eddy, Sam Fender, Guy Fletcher, Peter Frampton, Audley Freed, Vince Gill, David Gilmour, Buddy Guy, Keiji Haino, Tony Iommi, Joan Jett, John Jorgenson, Mark Knopfler, Sonny Landreth, Albert Lee, Greg Leisz, Alex Lifeson, Steve Lukather, Phil Manzanera, Dave Mason, Hank Marvin, Brian May, Robbie McIntosh, John McLaughlin, Tom Morello, Rick Nielsen, Orianthi, Brad Paisley, Nile Rodgers, Mike Rutherford, Joe Satriani, John Sebastian, Connor Selby, Slash, Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr and Zak Starkey, Sting, Andy Taylor, Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks, Ian Thomas, Pete Townshend, Keith Urban, Steve Vai, Waddy Wachtel, Joe Louis Walker, Joe Walsh, Ronnie Wood, Glenn Worf, Zucchero.

And, in a great honour, the track opens with Jeff Beck’s final recording.

so unashamedly I am posting chick magnet acts tonight. There were certain acts where the most beautiful hot women will flock.

Tom Petty was one. Jackson Browne definitely another.   Artists with wordsmith capabilities  who are FINE. I would say both those men qualify

Billy Strings? Maybe! lol

Rumor has it that Fairport Convention was unsure about the audience acceptance of the band being without their female lead vocalist Sandy Denny. However, they did quite well as five "man" outfit. While Richard Thompson (g, 2nd vocalist in the clip) was the most famous band member, the guy who held it all together was Dave Swarbrick (lead vocals, violin, g).

She's blood, flesh and bone
No tucks or silicone
She's touch, smell, sight, taste, and sound
But somehow I can't believe
That anything should happen
I know where I belong
And nothing's going to happen, yeah

'Cause she's so high
High above me
She's so lovely
She's so high
Like Cleopatra
Joan of Arc
Or Aphrodite
Da-da-da-da-da
She's so high
High above me

First class and fancy free
She's high society
She's got the best of everything

What could a guy like me
Ever really offer?
She's perfect as she can be
Why should I even bother?

'Cause she's so high
High above me
She's so lovely
She's so high
Like Cleopatra
Joan of Arc
Or Aphrodite
Da-da-da-da-da
She's so high
High above me

She comes to speak to me
I freeze immediately
'Cause what she says sounds so unreal
'Cause somehow I can't believe
That anything should happen
I know where I belong
And nothing's gonna happen, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

'Cause she's so high
High above me
She's so lovely
She's so high
Like Cleopatra
Joan of Arc
Or Aphrodite
Oh, yeah
She's so high
High above me

I knew a  Scotsman his name was Gordon McCarvey. He could not say the word mercy to save his life. He pronounced it 3 syllable mI-Er-cE. He thought I said Murphy and he went 20 miles out of his way to come visit  lmao

we saw this band together in Denver at a 2 thousand seater. He knew how massively popular they were in the UK he was sooo jazzed at this show. Filled with cool people I LOVED IT.  me in my Japanese silk Purple rain inspired long coat Yo

lol

Simply Red was on tour for the album "The Right Thing" released in 1987. It is because of that I am enamored of this band. This record was the shiznik when I first heard it. That and my buddy Gordo. Great guy. We are still in touch today.

THIS is my fav Simply Red song. This next clip from a few years later.
