WGR discussion on Taylor's contract

Recommended Posts

Both Sal and White are discussing it. Basically why Tyrod would agree to take a reduced salary to stay with Buffalo.

Both of them believe that Tyrods agent sent out feelers and found out his value wasn't as high on the open market that they originally thought. Sal said he was stunned at first when he heard about the contract details....why would Tyrods agent agree to this? That's where the theory came from.

Sal said he spoke with people he knows inside the organization. They told him that the Bills did want Taylor back but were holding firm on the restructured contract. They were okay with walking away from him and basically called his bluff.

They also think Tyrod is betting on himself. He might have gotten a little more on the open market but believes Buffalo is the best place for him to succeed. He can still earn his $30 million in Buffalo but that's not guaranteed anymore...the new deal cuts that essentially in half. If he produces, he gets paid.

Right now it looks like at least a 2 year bridge deal. After 1, it's an $8 million dead cap hit. However Taylor can perform and this can become a long term deal.

They think both sides win.

Bills win because they lower the guaranteed money, cap hit and dead money after two years.

Tyrod wins because he likes it here, he has a chance to make more money in Buffalo if he can perform and turn this contract into a long term deal. Basically just like the last contract....it's a 2 year audition for Taylor.

I like what they did but it still seems like Taylor is anything but in their long term plans. I'm good with that but I'm also good with him being here while they try to find the long term answer.

I think you're right.

I think they take a QB high this year, have him sit/develop for two years and then let him take the reigns.

I'm thinking a 2nd round guy...I heard Davis Webb is climbing the boards. I think, correct me if I'm wrong, but he was originally a projected 3-4 round pick. Now he might a 2nd rounder.

I disagree a bit, i don't think they draft one before the 3rd rd, the first 2 will be for starters

Turned it off when they started bashing Whaley. Again.

None of the WGR mouths seem to be able to listen. Bills went to "One Voice" speaking for the organization a month and a half ago. Simple concept, Good idea. New communications department sticking to it.

Naturally that means bash Whaley because he did not speak about this.

Idiots.

When did they bash Whaley? I've been listening all morning. They were positive about this restructure.

Im sorry. I dont buy the sending out feelers bit when:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Mike Glennon's impending contract with the Bears is expected to be for three years at an average of $14.5 million per season.

Trade down!!

what if the player they want is available when it's our turn to pick?

Im sorry. I dont buy the sending out feelers but when:

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports Mike Glennon's impending contract with the Bears is expected to be for three years at an average of $14.5 million per season.

That would be a ridiculous contract

Why else would Taylor agree to the restructure where his guaranteed money and salary are reduced?

It does seem odd. Maybe the Bears are just monumentally stupid.

Why else would Taylor agree to the restructure where his guaranteed money and salary are reduced?

1. Because maybe he and his agent realized it would pretty much be between the bears and the browns. And neither of those opportunities were attractive to him compared to buffalo.

2. The total amount of guaranteed money hes missing out on over the life of the contract isnt that substantial when you have to consider moving ur family again and going to unknowns with new teams one of which is a massive dumpster fire in the Browns. Maybe he feels pretty comfortable with an offensive coordinator he knows and the new HC? And that alone is worth staying bc he knows his career can still improve.

3. Ive never met the guy or know him in any way. But from everything ive read it seems like he kinda goes to the beat of his own drummer.

Just throwing some things out there to counter.

When the guarantee is up, he will have had 4 years to prove he is the guy. That's more than we've given anyone in a while. I really think this is his "prove it" year.

If he doesn't end the conversation about him as our long term starter, then he's our bridge next year for the new guy.

I'm overall happy with how this worked out
