I have never had an issue with DTV that they haven't set straight, and given me more than I felt I deserved. I am a 17 year DTV/Sunday Ticket subscriber and love their customer service.

I was told they could shave $5 off of my monthly fees by bundling the billing with AT&T. I refused because they told me all my billing questions/concerns would be channeled through AT&T. Having a friendly person who can quickly "make it right" and give me freebies is worth $5/month easily, especially since free Sunday Ticket is usually one of the perks.

if you have AT$T you can get the bundle discount even if AT&T doesn't do the billing. Just ask for the customer discount of 5$ I have had this forever.

My analysis of your statements is that ST is less expensive than going out to a bar but that contradicts your first statement about overall cost.

It appears that you do not want ST under any circumstances so that you can get out once and a while to see bikini clad bartenders. But maybe I misinterpreted your statements.

I don't tell my wife how much I spend at the bars. So no arguments there. Your analysis is correct.

This is what makes DTV so great. None of these cable companies will negotiate like this.

I am ten years strong at DTV/ticket and am looking forward to my annual call next month.

I'm always thinking, "Man, this is not a desperate company willing to give away the store just to keep customers, if they can afford to constantly do stuff like this they must be gouging me and everyone else." ;)

Well, think about how much less infrastructure they have to futz around with, versus the cable companies. DirecTV does not require a physical linkage to every single customer.

That doesn't explain the gouging or the ability and quickness to give away amazing discounts to anyone who asks. That just implies their prices should be substantially less to begin with. I'm a Directv subscriber and fan, btw. Edited by Kelly the Dog

Mine is bundled with Verizon, but I still call DTV direct for negotiations.

Smart Marketing, they keep the prices inflated (still comparable to CATV) and when you call up and get a deal you tell everyone how great they are you feel good. If the price was already $20 cheaper and they wouldn't deal we'd hate them like I do TWC. Don't get me wrong, I love DTV and have had it since the late 90's.

Oh believe me I think it's smart. But I also think they gouge everyone betting on the fact only 10% or whatever will call and complain and then they seem like they're great guys for giving it away for free.

Went on line started a chat session asked for help gave me the number and got a direct line into retention. Did my usual pleasant chats on weather etc and after about 30 minutes of pleasant conversation about the Chiefs ( agent was a chiefs fan ) the Bills and football in general got 1/2 off for ST MAX, 30$ a month for 12 month credits and a few 6 month credits for 1/2 off dvd service and hd extra pack. I was give choice ST for free or Max for half took Max since sometimes I watch RZC and use iPad to watch another game while watching Bills games.

Couldn't get anything on center ice yet since systems don't show that up but will shoot for credits later on that to see if I can get it for free again like last year.

I just got my direct tv installed yesterday, so I'm automatically free this year. When you renew a contract, are they always 2 year deals? If that's the case, my brother and I will expire on alternating years so I'm sure we will easily be able to work that to always get the ticket for free. We just have to alternate who drives each season. I'd rather save this negotiation game for center ice.

Anyway, the installer showed up at 5:30 even though they gave me a 12-4 window. On top of that, when finished, he didn't bother putting the panel back up on the wall that covers the wires. I feel like I can use all of this to get some deals. Is it worth it as a brand new customer? I don't want to have some crazy note on my record like Elaine did with her medical record.

Two years only if you get equipment upgrades. Free Sunday Ticket usually requires a one year commitment.

I would call them and complain about the sloppy work and late arrival even as a new sub you will get something.

I just called hoping to get free center ice out of it. The problem with being brand new is that I'm already getting a ton of stuff for free so I really don't know what to push for. Unfortunately center ice doesn't seem to be an option right now. The supervisor couldn't find any information on it in there system today (or at least that's what he said).

When you have cable all you can watch is the same team every week

When all you can watch is the same team every week you get bored

When you get bored you try to become a football star yourself

When you try to become a football star yourself you try out for the Bills

When you try out for the Bills you make the team and become a starter

When you become a starter you disappoint

When you disappoint you get made fun on on twobillsdrive.com

Don't get made fun of on twobillsdrive.com. Get rid of cable and upgrade to DirecTV.

Best post of the year so far, hands down Talley .....!!

wait a month till the center ice shows up as 0$ than call. May not be able to do much as a new sub but the botched install and issues should get ya 10$ off for a year or 2. I had protection plan last year ( a receiver died and adding it made replacing a lot cheaper, with some nice upgrades as well ). Anyways after a few months called to cancel it and asked why center ice was 0. Rep said hmm must be your getting it for no charge. SO a month later it shows up on bill as a charge I call and say rep told me it was going to be free, the rep gave me instant 249 or whatever center ice was credit! Sometimes play dumb and but key is BE NICE and reps love to chat to see if your friendly they will help you more than you can imagine.

on the line with account specialist now.. got my pin #...

couldn't swing the free nfl ticket .. however.. they did knock $40/ month off my bill

hmmm should have been offered free ticket for 12 month commitment or 1/2 of ST Max. I get Max so I can watch games on iPad and TV at same time
