Islamic Terrorism

A MURDER IN JORDAN: “A prominent and outspoken Jordanian writer (Nahed Hattar) on Sunday was shot dead in front of the courthouse where he had been on trial for sharing a cartoon deemed offensive to Islam.”

Hattar’s murderer was arrested, immediately. The government called it a heinous crime — which it is. However, the government was prosecuting the author for putting a cartoon on Facebook. The cartoon as described in the AP report:

“The caricature depicted a bearded man in heaven, smoking and in bed with two women, asking God to bring him wine and cashews. Relatives said the cartoon was meant to illustrate what Hattar viewed as the twisted religious views of Islamic State extremists. The post was quickly deleted after many angry responses.”

Islamist fanatics called for Hattar’s death. Hattar’s family notes that the government did not respond to the fanatics’ explicit on-line death threats

OMAR MATEEN’S 911 TRANSCRIPT: Rukmina Callimachi has the link.

Note this: “By my count, he tells the operator that the US needs to end airstrikes against ISIS at least *five* times during the call.”

So anything we were hearing at the time casting doubt on whether this was ISIS-related terrorism was contrary to facts already known by authorities.

Meanwhile, where’s Omar Mateen’s wife/accomplice Noor Salman, whom the Justice Department “lost” several months ago?

Nope, no agenda or hypocrisy on display here at all.

When the US and its allies commit war crimes, it's an honest "mistake" (despite reports out today that there is intercepted radio chatter of US forces coordinating with ISIS forces on the ground during the bombing of Syrian troops) or a necessary action to stop a greater threat.

But when any other country tries the same tactic, it it's a war crime.

Now, of course Russia is committing many violations that could be deemed war crimes in Syria, as are the US and its allies in Yemen. But those stories aren't reported or covered with nearly the same amount of effort or exposure -- and when they are they're couched in whataboutisms -- formerly a favorite propaganda ploy by the USSR. Funny how the US (and some posters) have adopted that logical fallacy as their fallback position on Syria and US/Russian relations.

It's almost as if the US wants a third world war... nah, that's crazy talk.

Oops...

We don't have a clear mission in Syria, other than funding, supporting, training and sharing intelligence with ISIS fighters (because that'll never blowback on us). We don't have a clear mission in Yemen other than war profiteering. We don't have any clear mission on how to handle Russia other than to attempt to provoke a shooting war with the world's largest nuclear force.

But man, unrest and instability in the ME sure does pump out the extremists who in turn pump up the federal budgets and propaganda machines designed to convince Americans that their security is worth giving up individual liberties.

Can't wait to hear all the red-baiting going down tonight during the debate.

Must be nice to equate an attack on a military installation outside a cease fire zone with bombing of civilians and aid convoys inside a cease fire zone that are clearly marked as such.

Vlad Putin thanks you for supporting his message.

Whataboutism at its finest.

Keep on thinking that's what I'm doing. It's working for you.
