Head Coach Candidate: Darrell Bevell

LA Grant

Recommended Posts

IMO, he is the closest to a slam dunk candidate as there is available. He would be a perfect fit for our current situation.

His credits:

—Discovered and developed Russell Wilson, when no one else in the NFL was considering him.

—Continued to innovate on offense after defenses started figuring out what they were doing.

—Former QB, has a speciality in developing scrambling strong-armed QBs

—Was the OC in Minnesota and helped Favre to his big year there, and one of the best years of Favre's career

PFT reports that the Bills have requested permission to interview him. I think he makes way more sense than anyone else they're looking at. He's an offensive specialist who has shown the ability to make something out of nothing. Unlike Gase or McDaniels, he isn't leaning on a HOF quarterback. Unlike Reich, he has a proven track record of success.

Bevell/Schwartz/Whaley is a power trio that I would have a lot of faith in.

Completely agree with all of this.

I would rather have Quinn but I will take Bevell. The Seahawks manufacture offense better than any team in the league with limited personnel. Lynch is a superstar but their line has been ravaged by injury, Wilson is good but not great, and their WR group may be one of the worst in the league. I would love this hire.

Then why would you rather have Quinn? We would lose Schwartz and still need a guy just like Bevell for the offense, but wouldn't get anyone who was as good.

@ProFootballTalk: Darrell Bevell, Dan Quinn, Josh McDaniels on Bills' list too http://t.co/AAxehukFi5

He seemed upset that Seattle traded Harvin because he had big plans for him.

My guess is he could lay out those plans for Sammy

Some one should make sure he know that during the interview.

as one erudite poster recently mentioned.

" tell me how you will use Sammy Watkins , and dont limit yourself to 30 minutes " i don recall who it was that posted that but i love it and it applies here

Palmyra is the Mecca of the Mormon religion.

Twenty miles from St. John Fisher.

Yup. He can go to the Hill Cumorah pageant every night for two weeks during camp.

While I'd like to see Malzahn or Briles, Bevell would be my favorite NFL coordinator candidate. He's innovative, gets the most out of his OL through his blocking schemes, and I love the idea of him and Schwartz together. He's much more appealing than Gase or Reich.

You will all laugh and idc. In EJs rookie year I thought he could be a bigger version of Russell Wilson because of his playing style, approach to the game, and work ethic. If Bevell was his coach, my belief in that initial thought could be revived.

All around, I think he's probably the best choice for who we have and what we need. Pegula can give Schwartz a boatload of money to keep him happy and just let Bevell concentrate on the offense and EJ and whomever else they bring in. Maybe even keep Crossman.

Then maybe he brings Tom Cable as his Modkins and we actually get a good OL coach out of the deal. Then Marshawn gets released after he won't rework his deal and comes back to Buffalo.

That would be great. Ha. The Cable thing alone is perfect and realistic. The Seahawks, losing Bevell, may not let Cable go even if it were to be a promotion for him but teams usually do. Unless they make him their OC, which is possible.

Marshawn said he was considering retirement.

And in the same breath he mentioned the Hall of Fame. You never know what he will do but courtesy of all of his signature big plays and the impression that he created the Seahawks physical identity....he's much closer to that than most 8500 yard backs would be.

Reports are that he is super tight with Cable.

I don't know about Cable's ability to call plays. The Hawks would need a playcaller......the Bills would not....so it might give them a chance to double dip from the Seahawks success. The job Cable has done with their OL is very good. They aren't very talented there. Their starting RT in the SB, Giacomini, went to the Jets and looked like garbage this year.

Yeah I have no idea if Cable is OC material or not. It would be great if he were not. ;)

No way Cable drops the Seahawks for just simply an OL coach gig. He's currently the assistant HC there, no?

So Cable can be the OC for HC Bevell then. Bevell still calls the plays, and Cable is an OC like Marrone was an OC in New Orleans: a glorified OL coach.

I agree with this. I would be ok with Scwartz and a good OC, but I like Bevell above all other candidates mentioned at HC, presuming we can keep Scwartz happy. He is coming from a high quality team and organization, and has done a remarkable job, especially considering the lack of true offensive weapons on that team. Their success speaks volumes of his role in addition to the clearly great defenses they have fielded.

+1. We NEED a running game which requires a better OL coach and guards, plus a stud workhorse RB.. Otherwise, he has the D to try to replicate the Seattle success.

He's saying he will be OC here.

Yeah and I am stating that he's currently the assistant HC there... If Bevell goes surely he slides from OLine coach to OC/Assistant HC...

My man, Seattle had both of what we need AND a defense... There is no "otherwise" to replicating Seattle's success seeing as they had a good OL coach and decent guards to block for a workhorse back with that defensive unit...

I don't know.... Are we?

I thought you were saying we needed a decent OL coach and better guards with a workhorse back to match (which I agree). It may be your "otherwise" part which threw me. It sounded like "otherwise, if we can't get the OL coach, guards or RB then let our defense win games like Seattle have requiredin the past".

Either way, I totally agree with the need part

lol I meant we really need a running game (Guards + OL coach + workhorse back) and then add in the D we already have... Then hopefully he can replicate :)

Without the running game it will never work :(

Of the candidates we're slated to interview he is certainly my favorite. Did wonders with Favre who many thought was washed up, Wilson has been a star under him and he's not afraid to rely on a run game. He's got a good all-around offensive game plan.

I think he would be a great hire, a monkey could coach the D, we need offensive help and creativity and he would be perfect!

I don't know if Bevell is the man but aside from Schwartz......all of these guys mentioned are more promising to me than Marrone was.

Marrone was a Modkins OC. He was a college coach for a "meh" program. He went .500. That doesn't mean all of these guys will be better but some of them will.

Turns out the candidates in Marrone's year were pretty good but there are a lot of good offensive minds available.

He is by far my number one chance but I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Best post in the history of TSW! No, I really mean that. It's the perfect microcosm of the entire forum. Well done, BB!

GO BILLS!!!
