[closed]What about LB coach?

Recommended Posts

Just read on Bill's Daily that if O'neal goes to Cleveland the person they are looking at is Don Martindale from Baltimore? Don't know if his contract expired to he's a FA or what the deal is. This report was from an Ian Rapornport or something like that??

Wouldn't seem to let me copy and paste it here.

you got it backwards - if the bills block o'neal then the browns will hire martindale.

if o'neal leaves i would not be surprised to see gunther cunningham follow swartz from DET to fill the LB coach spot

I'm not exactly advocating for this but I could see bringing in Pepper Johnson and signing Brandon Spikes.

Spikes is a scumbag and I pretty much hate him but I think he'd be a good fit in the middle - he's a prototypical MLB and would free up Kiko to play wlb where I think he'd be even better than he was this year.

How can the Bills block O'Neil? Aren't they discussing making him the DC?

Easy. He's under contract. Sure, I guess he could quit and jump to Cleveland, but I'm sure the NFL would have something to say about that (in the form of compensation coming our way).

Hahaha that was my initial reaction when the thought first crossed my mind! I'd rather they didn't but I can't help but connect dots when I see them.

sorry about that. I may have over reacted. i am no fan of spikes at this point in his game. Dansby maybe .

But its gonna be a draft pick i wager .

Or O'neal may just get an expanded role.

I do not see them trying to keep O'Neil or any other coach if he does not want to be here. I can't see Schwartz wanting a person on his staff who would not be totally on board.

A prototypical ILB is going to be Daryl Smith, Baltimore; formerly played in Jacksonville.

I would take Singletary over Johnson - We do not need NE castoffs.

It's only a promotion to head coach, everyone else (position or coordinator) is simply an assistant.

Can't they call it Asst HC? It's been done before, but I forget exactly how. Coordinators going to new teams as coordinators and also getting Asst. HC labels.

Yeah I'd prefer Daryl Smith as well but he's over thirty and I think there's a decent chance he re-signs with the Ravens. But who knows? They've got some tough decisions considering their cap situation.

There's a bunch of other FA ILBs I'd also prefer over Spikes, but many seem like they'll re-sign with their respective teams.

I was just thinking it wouldn't be a stretch that Spikes could follow Pepper Johnson, and Buffalo is certainly a viable destination.

Regarding Singletary, I like him far more as a player than a coach. I know his options are limited, but I think he wanted to get out of Minnesota to move up back up the ladder. Unless being an LB coach came with an Asst HC title, I don't think it's likely he'd come here. I'd definitely take him tho.

Nope. Not any longer. NFL stopped that horse crap. Any coach can interview for a HC vacancy. All other positions, e.g., Coordinators and position coaches must get permission from their current club if they're under contract.

Pettine was under contract also, correct? Teams usually do not get in the way of promotions. Bad for business.
