$103.75 million for 5 years with $59 mil guaranteed. One playoff win. Buddy Nix hired by Atlanta? That's crazy insane money/contract. Falcons will regret that one.

its top ten qb money. matt ryan is a quality qb. whether or not he can get a ring, hes good enough that they have to go all in on him.

hopefully this run of qb contracts starts to beat into peoples head how middle of the road fitz was actually compensated.

Amazing how many are getting this kind of Jack.

its really not that crazy out of line with previous qb contracts as a percentage of the salary cap, its just the cycle of qbs getting deals since the cap sky rocketed.... brunell, bledsoe, etc... had contracts that were like 15% back in 2000.... just it was 15% of 60 or so million instead of 120m+

it may be dipping a little further down the top 10-15 list thats receiving them but its a qb driven league.

Now that's funny!

Nice payday for a single playoff win.

You must not watch many Falcons games.

Without Ryan the Falcons would still be..... the Bills.

When you find a great QB, you pay the man.

Ryan is great. The Falcons had no running game last year. Love this move by them. Before Ryan got there, the Falcons never had back to back winning seasons.

That's crazy! That's Joe Flacco money!

hehe

unless u have the Baltimore ravens 2001 defense..you need a QB in this league or you are toast. Ryan is about the 8th best behind kaep, wilson, brady, eli, peyton, the slob in Pittsburgh, brees.oops Luck.....9th best

Ryan has been to the playoffs 4/5 years and winning records 5/5 years. Ryan is a big part of that success, the Bills would be so lucky to have a QB worthy of this kind of contract.

Great huh? In 5 years, Ryan has won 56 regular season games but only one playoff game out of 5 and he struggles against the only good team in his division, going 3 for 10 in 5 seasons.

Without Ryan, the Falcs were Vick's team and he managed to double Ryan's playoff win total (woo!)---and he was the most over rated QB of his generation. Arthur Blank can't help dropping fat stacks on non-"great" QB talent.

In 2 of the last 3 seasons, the Falcons earned home field in the NFC through their regular season records. Yes, that's supposed to be the ticket to the Super Bowl, but your argument implies the losses are Ryan's fault and that's just ridiculous. The first year, Aaron Rogers Lit 'em Up when the Pack got on their incredible SB run. How could Ryan have helped stop 50 pts against his team? Last year, he did engineer a strong lead vs SF, only to have the 9ers stage an incredible comeback. Again, Matt Ryan doesn't play defense..

Here's the real issue; with a top tier QB, you always have a chance. Without one, you don't. Matt Ryan is a top tier QB. His contract is up and it's HIS TIME to capitalize on it.

From a Bills perspective, I'd rather have Matt Ryan than ANY QB we've had since Jimbo hung 'em up.

He's a rich mans Matt Schaub... If scrubby Stafford got paid then its a given Matt Ryan would also.

I'd take Kaep/Wilson/rg3 over Ryan if it was my choice. I'm not a huge fan

I can't believe Bills fans are picky... Of all the teams fans it happens to be Bills fans. It is just funny.

To think this team would be so lucky to actually find a franchise QB which is the hardest thing to find in football.

So your point is that Ryan is responsible for giving them home field advantage, but not for the playoff losses? How about the 2 point performance he led the Falcons against the Giants 2 years ago?

You know who else doesn't play defense? Aaron Rodgers. Yet they went on that SB run mainly because of superior play at QB in the playoffs.

Ryan is a decent QB and they had to pay him, but he struggles against the elite competition and QBs. He is right now perhaps the 6th best QB in the NFC (Rodgers, Manning, Brees are proven better and Kpa and Wilson are likely better).

The question of whether you or I would rather have him on the Bills (well, obviously) than any of the guys the braintRusst has brought in over the years is irrelevant to the points made above. That bar is low/nonexistent.

If you take Ryan off the roster how good would the Falcons be? You state that Ryan struggles against the good teams. That is one way of lookin at it. But another way of looking at his level of play is that he elevates an above average team to being a good team. That the Falcons are not an elite team has little to do with the quality of play of the qb, and more to do with the rest of the roster.

The Bills would love to have a qb the caliber of Ryan. The Bills have been on a quest for a respectable qb for a generation, and still haven't found one. I'm sure they wouldn't scoff at a Ryan caliber qb.

The Falcons can be contrasted to the Bills. They find a way to retain their best players while the Bills too often end up losing them. That is why the Bills are stuck in the cycle of mediocrity.

It amazes me how some posters go so one-sided to fit their "agenda".

the Falcons D did everything they could to lose that game against the 49ers, but let's blame Matt Ryan.
