Chris Moody of Yahoo! News has a great story this afternoon about the saga the conservative media watchdogs at MediaTrackers had with the Obama IRS. The long and short of it is that after after waiting for more than a year for IRS to approve his 501©3 application for the group, conservative activist Drew Ryun "determined that Media Trackers would likely never obtain standalone nonprofit status" and so he "tried a new approach," applying as a nonprofit under the name "Greenhouse Solutions" which was "a pre-existing organization that was reaching the end of its determination period."

And wouldn't you know it, Moody noted, "the IRS approved Greenhouse Solutions' request for permanent nonprofit status in three weeks":

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: That was a holding operation. That was the absolute minimum he could have done. He relieves one person, he obviously had to. He had to relieve at least one person. He chose, of course, the acting commissioner but I would have expected more. The other actions he announced are up to now meaningless.

 

Obama and this administration have said a hundred times they're going to hold x, y, or z accountable for all kinds of behavior. In benghazi, you know, regarding a lot of other scandals. He even speaks about Syrian generals are going to be held accountable. It means nothing. And then he says there will be an investigation from the Treasury. Well, that just means the left hand of the government investigating the right hand. He did say he'll cooperate with Congress. But then he has the chutzpah to essentially warn Republicans not to make this into a political event when what we're talking about is the IRS applying political criteria inexcusably unconstitutionally, probably criminally, in deciding who it's going to investigate. So I found this the bare minimum. It will hold him for 12 hours, but no more. (Special Report, May 15, 2013)

So, I don't think Obama ordered the IRS to do what it did, I think it was just a natural extension of policies and tone that he set. 1984 arrived, just a little later.

Nobody needed to be told to do this. They just knew. Singing from the same sheet music. Operating from the same playbook. The hivemind revealed: drones operating in full concert with, yet totally disconnected from the ostensible leadership of the collective. And heaven help you if their honeycomb-dance identifies an enemy in your direction.

Have any of you guys seen some of the details of the pressing the IRS did to some of these groups? These weren't boilerplate questionnaires sent to everyone. These were very specific to the extent that groups were asked their specific relationship to specific people in their area.

 

Add to this that Miller was leaving in June anyway, and you have to be JTSP crazy to think this is over.

JSTP crazy? If so, this is going nuclear. From what I've seen, it isn't two guys in Cincinnati. At this point they have letters from DC and two locations in CA that prove they were involved. Get rid of this agency and implement a "Fair Tax", and make it unconstitutional to have it be a "value added tax". I have no problem protecting the low earners by rebating them a reasonable amount to offset their sales tax. The Fair Tax eliminates not only the cheats but the CPA's making money for doing what?

Obama’s attempt at damage control laughable

 

Nice try, Mr. President.

 

Feigning anger, firing an unknown bureaucrat and fleeing the podium won’t cut it with voters, or stop the hemorrhaging of the scandals that have spawned a Watergate-like feel around the Obama administration.

 

There was a certain panicky look about the way the president quickly delivered a rare evening White House statement to try to quell the growing outrage over the IRS targeting of Tea Party groups. The move showed how damaging the scandal has become to Obama’s second term and maybe even his presidency.

 

But Obama took no questions and, more importantly, no responsibility for the ugly episode of the federal government abusing its power for political reasons. This was just political theater designed to distance Obama from something that happened on his watch. Obama sounded a lot angrier scolding Republicans for blocking his gun control bill than he did standing at the podium last night in a belated attempt at damage control.

 

Even worse, Obama had the gall to warn any critics in Congress to “treat (the IRS) with the responsibility it deserves and in a way that doesn’t smack of politics or partisan agendas.”

 

In other words, Republicans, don’t use it against him.

 

The problem for Obama is that what happened in the IRS was all about partisan politics. The IRS was harassing conservative groups opposed to Obama’s re-election, and the big question is why any low-level bureaucrat would be engaged in a concerted effort to hurt Obama’s opponents.

Planned Parenthood endorsed Obama in 2008 and 2012.

 

The IRS also pressured another pro-life group about its religious activities. “The IRS withheld approval of an application for charitable tax-exempt recognition of Christian Voices for Life, questioning the group’s involvement with ’40 Days for Life’ and ‘Life Chain’ events,” according to the law firm. “The Fort Bend County, Texas, organization was subjected to repeated and lengthy unconstitutional requests for information about the viewpoint and content of its educational communications, volunteer prayer vigils, and other protected activities
