Stop it...this has never happened! Maybe you interpreted a "c'mon dumb ass, you are not that uber cool that you have never ordered coffee in a Starbucks and just want to look cool o the rest of people in line" look for blank stare you describe above.

But on a coffee note, Luke warm coffee in vey nice restaurants seems to be pervasive these days.if I am getting desert after my meal, I like a cup of hot coffee with it.....is that so hard to do?

People who use the word "uber" (unless they happen to be on German soil or work in the fashion industry) - - extra credit for using the word "uber" when accusing someone else of trying to show off how "cool" they are).

This is America - - stick with "dumb a$$."

Roll Tide.

That's ironic, as one of my pet peeves is people who act like the English language is some sort of holy fixture that needs to be revered.......when in fact it has constantly evolved through the centuries, adapting words from all languages to become by far the most versatile language for broad and precise communication.

Speaking of being ironic, a pet peeve of mine is people who try to be intentionally "ironic."

Like hipsters will listen to Journey because it's "ironic." Listen to Journey because you like Journey, not because it's "ironic."

Use of the word "ironic" when listening to a band doesn't even make sense...unless you are listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers while eating suicide chicken wings (for instance)

Are the words Australians speak even considered English? I bet the Aussies even liked "new" Coke before Americans forced the return to the classic Coke formula:

I agree. At best, it's an ill- fitting use of the word of ironic. People mis-use the word ironic all the time.

Not really. There is a new/modern definition of irony. It is called situational irony. Is this what you are referring to people messing up? People get all bent when the traditional definition of irony isn't used. Alanis Morrissette's song "Ironic" revolves around situational irony.

You know the song... NOW the classic example of situational irony. ;-) :-P

An old man turned ninety-eight

He won the lottery and died the next day

It's a black fly in your Chardonnay

It's a death row pardon two minutes too late Isn't it ironic, don't you think?

It's like rain on your wedding day

It's a free ride when you've already paid

It's the good advice that you just didn't take

And who would've thought it, it figures

Mr. Play-It-Safe was afraid to fly

He packed his suitcase and kissed his kids good-bye

He waited his whole damn life to take that flight

And as the plane crashed down he thought "Well isn't this nice"

And isn't it ironic, don't you think?

And who would've thought it, it figures

Well life has a funny way of sneaking up on you

When you think everything's okay and everything's going right

And life has a funny way of helping you out when

You think everything's gone wrong and everything blows up in your face

A traffic jam when you're already late

A "No Smoking" sign on your cigarette break

It's like ten thousand spoons when all you need is a knife

It's meeting the man of my dreams, and then meeting his beautiful wife (husband)

And isn't it ironic, don't you think?

A little too ironic, and yeah I really do think

So how is listening to Journey ironic?

So how is listening to Journey ironic?

LoL... Touche!

But I will take a hipster stab @ it. Journey in its heyday was as monolithic and mainstream as one could get! Even R.E.M breaking in could have never thought to have aspired to such heights (go figure what was to become). Now of all things... Listening to such mainstream is actually cool and different.

R.E.M will soon be ironic.

:-P
