What do we do if we win the toss?

Most NFL coaches choose to defer to the 2nd half but this Sunday is different in my opinion. I think with the question marks surrounding what the Jets will do with Tebow/Sanchez and the wildcat the Bills should hope we get the ball first.

Chan should go into this game thinking about running the ball more than usual and shorten the game. Keep the Jets offense off the field so that question mark we can adjust to at the half.

What do you guys think? Have you thought of this at all?

Defer defer defer. We would be playing right into the teeth of a frenzied crowd and a very good defense. Start out on D and serve notice early. I'm all for starting on D on the road.

2nd half kickoffs and the stands are still half-empty and the place is quiet. That's a great time to get the ball on the road. Especially if we have a lead and the momentum from the first half.

Defer and get the crowd riding the Jets offense early. A quick 3 and out to start the game could do a lot toward getting the crowd to turn on them pretty quickly.

Better yet, an INT by Sanchez. Can you imagine? The QB controversy would be in full bloom before the first quarter is over. Sanchez is vulnerable and if we force him into bad decisions, hurried passes, etc. he will crumble. There is no place more hostile than a warm NY football crowd. If things go bad for Sanchez early, Eva Longoria is gonna need a police escort out of Met Life Stadium. Hell, she'll deny she even knows him.

Don't really care one way or the other.

Dumb question - - if we win the toss and "defer," doesn't that mean that the Jets have to make the choice about whether to kick-off or receive to start the game (and we get to make that choice at the start of the second half)? I was under the impression (could be wrong) that teams that win the toss and "defer" usually start out on defense because the other team will usually choose to start the game on offense.

So if our goal is to guarantee that we start the game by playing defense, don't we have to actually choose to kickoff to start the game, rather than deferring? Given the well-publicized offensive struggles of the Jets in preseason, they might also prefer to start the game on defense, if we give them a choice by "deferring."

So they want to give us the ball at the beginning of both halves? Okay.

Technically, that's correct. However, the team that loses the opening toss would be unwise to elect to kick-off because that means giving up two possessions. It's never been done in an NFL game for that simple reason.
