Help me pick my first Bills game

Recommended Posts

Ok I'm trying to plan a trip up to Buffalo and I need help deciding what game to go to. It needs to be early season because my wife will throw a fit and want to leave in the 2nd quarter if she gets too cold. After my first trip I can come whenever because my wife won't care to go a second time, but she is always in for the first trip to a new place. Right now I'm kind of debating between the raiders and redskins games. Which one would be better? Also where should we stay and what else should we do on the trip?

Obviously the home opener

You can stay anywhere in Buffalo... it's very easy to commute around the city. I recommend Adams Mark Hotel or The Avant if you want to spend a little more money

Things to do? Tailgate, Niagara Falls, Clifton Hill (Canada), take a stroll through downtown, visit the Harbor, Galleria Mall, and of course enjoy the Buffalo food! I would also recommend walking down the Elmwood strip and check out some shops... maybe even go to the Seneca Casino if you're into gambling.

If the idea is to pick a game which will strongly dissuade your wife from ever returning to the Ralph, the Raiders game is ideal. Their fans can best be characterized as unwashed, obnoxious, of sub-standard intelligence and generally hostile. Fights are guaranteed, especially if the Bills are losing. Raider fandom has spread like herpes, in fact the correlation between the rise of Raider nation across the country and the spread of herpes is shockingly similar, so there will be a lot of trashy Raider fans out that day further increasing the chances of incident.

Are you the southern ieatcrayonz? 1. The Redskins game is in Toronto. 2. Why would you bring your wife? That's a critical mistake. As far as stuff to do in Buffalo, search countless numbers of threads on here, there's probably one of them a month.

Are you talking about Bills fans or Raiders fans? I think it would probably apply to both.

Ok I didn't know the redskins game was the Toronto game, so that knocks it out. Looks like Eagles or Raiders it is.

Also I don't mind if my wife goes or not after the first game, but I do know long road trips are not her favorite if it's a place she's already been, so I have to assume that she most likely will never care to go with me again.

What restaurants would you guys recommend as well? I hate chain restaurants so give me some good real Buffalo only places to eat.

That is not me, I will bring my wife if she wants to go, I know she likes to see new places so I assume she will want in on this trip, if she doesn't it's her call. I know I will probably start coming up once or twice a year so at some point I will have to take her.

Well that type of thinking will get you in trouble. The point is our fans don't need to change as long as there are other that are worse.

In other words: "I don't have a drinking problem. That guy at the end of the bar is a much bigger drunk than me." See?

Great analogy. Well done.

When I was a lad, my brother and brother in-law had season tickets...we have a huge family (I have 6 sisters and a brother) so they would take turns taking one of us to the games. I always wanted to go to the game that I thought the Bills had the best chance of winning...I have been to around 150 games since, and I can tell you, no matter how bad things are going in a season Rich/Ralp Wilson is a much funner place to be when the Bills win than when they lose...try your hardest to experience a "high", rather than a low...and, as judman suggsts, also, try to go in the first 10 weeks of the season, or so...not because the weather will be better (those cold games, when they win are a blast!), but because the mirage of a possible playoff run always makes the games a little funner.

Unless we are playing for something or the Dolphins are the rivalry isn't the same anymore IMO. Personally I think the home opener is always the best game. Especially if it's the season opener too. But the home opener always has a fly by. It's when they pull out all the big guns and truly try and make it a great game to be at. All the players are so excited and really pumped up during introductions too. And because it's the first game of the season you can go to the bathroom without catching any diseases you haven't got yet. Trust me. Get home opener tix you won't regret it.
