What's your favorite mixed drink?

Personally my favorite is very simple. A dirty vodka martini with olives up ... btw make it very cold and skip the vermouth. I used to only drink Grey Goose vodka but found this to be a waste of money. If you go dirty Shmirnoff works very well. The key to it all is cold ... make it cold and don’t use those little itty bitty olives ... queen ones and better yet stuff them with blue cheese.

A close second for me goes by different names in different bars. Shake 1.5 oz of orange vodka with .5 oz of Grand Marnier and serve in a martini glass. Some bars want to add O.J. but this is a huge distraction IMO. I also recognize this drink is half a step away from a cosmo so no Sex in the City comments  .

A third standby is a true margarita. BTW a true margarita only contains three ingredients: very good tequila, lime juice and either Cointreau or Grand Marnier. Do not accept “margarita mix” or "sweet and sour mix” as they just make the drink taste like syrup.

I’ll be lifting a martini to ring in the New Year with all of you. What do you have to say?

Like yourself I like to keep it simple. I will take that Grey Goose you don't want and put it with lots of ice and soda with a big hunk of lime. Light, clean. Perfect on a hot day without being to sweet.

I love a good margarita. Tough to get, in most bars and restaurants.

When I was bartending at the Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls, a Mexican couple asked if we could make a decent margarita. They had a terrible drink at another bar in the casino. The guy I was bartending with told them all the margaritas in the place were the same. (Which was basically true, We were supposed to make a lame margarita with the mix). I told them I would make them a real margarita (as you described above). They stayed for several and tipped us quite well. (They said they were the best, and only "real" margaritas they have had on their trip to the USA.)

The other bartender asked me, "Why did you do that?" Duh. There are some real lazy morons in this world.

One of my favorite "mixed drinks" is a very dry gin gimlet. Again, hard to get a good one, as they tend to use the overly sweet Roses Lime Juice and use far too much of it. I prefer a freshly made lime juice, and then used sparingly. Or, if I'm in a bar that uses Roses, I tell them to put two or three drops in the drink...the way they would use vermouth in an extra dry martini. Then I put a big piece of lime in it. While I prefer it on the rocks (packed with ice) it is also good well stirred and served in a chilled cocktail glass. Oh in this drink good gin is very important. I'm kinda partial to Bombay Sapphire.

(I also have had other bartenders and waitresses get perturbed with me when I would accommodate a customer who wanted their drink with unsweetened ice tea. "We only have sweet tea", they would tell the customer. I would always make a cup of tea, and then chill it before using it their drink. C'mon, you have tea, you have hot water, how can you say you don't have unsweetened ice tea?)

Vodka gimlet -- as The Dean of posters described above.

Wifey makes a "Manhattan" with blended whiskey, sweet vermouth, dry vermouth, Angostora bitters, orange zest, maraschino cherries (w/ a little splash of the mc juice), on the rocks. Sweet, but tasty.

Any good, pure fruit-juice with high-quality grain vodka - I love a good Cape Codder, Ice Pick, Greyhound, Sea Breeze, or - lately - Blueberry & vodka.

But my absolute favourite is something I call the...

Senatorial Cocktail

Over ice, pour:

1-part vodka (any high-end five-column distillation brand will do - these days I'm partial to Pearl Vodka)

Add:

3 parts vodka

Stir gently, garnish with a lemon twist or razor-thin orange slice.

Enjoy!

Na Zdrowie!!!!

Craft brews, particularly IPA's are my drink of choice, but on the rare occasion that I have a mixed drink, it's dark rum and coke. Nothing complicated or sophisticated... Appleton Estate, Myers's, or even Captain Morgan will do. I prefer a tall glass packed with ice. Make it nice and strong, 50/50. The key and absolute must is to finish it off with a squeeze of fresh lime.

- Used to be able to drink these all night long, but now, they get too sweet after 2 or 3.

The blueberry part sounds like my drink. I like any vanilla vodka mixed with any of the Diet Ocean Spray...cranberry/grape...blueberry...cranberry/pomegranate..and their other flavors. The Diet V8 splashes work well too. tropical...berry.

Crown & Ginger Ale, hold the Ginger Ale. :D

But seriously folks... it depends on my mood. You really can't go wrong with Corp000085's choice.

A good Irish coffee will be fine sometimes, but so will a great Bloody Mary (can I get some fresh prepared horseradish!?!). These two depend on the outside temperature and just how early my tee-time is.

A Old Fashioned is a nice treat, too.

I guess I'm pretty easy when it comes to my mixed-drinks. Good friends/times frame the context.

Now excuse me while I go watch the Bills do whatever it is they do.
