Gailey Gives Maybin the Business

This is one reason why I have hope that Gailey and Nix might just get this thing turned around. Nobody is untouchable and nobody will remain on the roster if they do not step it up. Sad to sayu but Maybin has all of the markings of a bust. If he can't get on the field with this defense in its sorry state what where would he be with real talent?

Makes me wonder why they released Ellis and not Maybin?

You should read the chat from the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle guys, they say beyond Maybin sucking, he also has no football instincts. Those guys would cut him. Maybin better take this criticism to heart, get stronger in the office season and come in with Cameron Wake intensity or this guy will be pumping gas next fall. Aaron you wont get invited to all the good parties when your playing for Winnipeg.

As someone who just came back from a weekend in Winnipeg, I can tell you that the parties are awesome (what else is there to do?) and yes, I've already seen to it that Maybin not get invited to any of them. He sucks.

hahahahaha, in your silly world, is penn state located in the south east too? Because those are the players buddy actually scouted. Yeah, that is SOME spin. Especially when Buddy goes on to say that players that are top ten picks should be able to contribute immediatly and shouldn't be projects and linemen should be big and strong over speed, players that are good for more than one year, yeah, maybin has buddy written all over it.

Maybe they moved Penn state to the dirty south. But I didn't hear anything. Your bias is just terrible. There are so many things to rag on nix and the bills for and you pick the one thing that doesn't add up.

**Edit**

people already brought it up.

Has he shared this belief with his HC? His top ten pick has less than 20 carries and 80 yards in 5 games.

Other guy's draft picks aren't untouchable. Let's see what happens when it's this regimes high round miss.

Which is A LOT more than maybin has in more than a whole season. Spiller has scored us a lot of points. But this team needs a lot of work. Spiller is also being used a lot as a reciever rather than just a tailback.

Agreed. It is easy to say the other guys didn't do their job.... but if troupe, carrington, and future picks don't perform, they will either have to be in denial and keep the players on the roster or just say "we screwed up." I am guessing they would keep dead weight on the roster if it is their dead weight.... but that is a premature guess.

Really? I mean I don't know better from watching, but how does a guy become a star at Penn State and picked as an NFL first rounder without any "football instincts"?

It'll will be a shame if this guy never gets it, beyond the pick that was spent on him, he sounds like one hell of an athlete.

Try him out at TE why not although I am guessing if he can't get the "chase guy with ball" thing he won’t be able to run routes and understand an offense.

If we reelase him the Jets will sign the guy, work with him in pass rushing situations and he will wind up being a pass rush specialist like Jason Taylor under Rex Ryan and we will look like idiots again.

Just like the Jets are doing with Vernon Gholston?

Simple. Hype. Scouts get suckered all the time.

Why TE?? Can he block?? Can he catch??

This and every FO/Staff for over 10 years at OBD has treated the TE position with total, clueless disdain---changing Maybin's number and lining him up at TE would be par for the course.

Translation to Gailey's comments.

Maybin is not good enought to play in this league. He is so bad, that he is not good enough to be a special teams player in this league right now. If he was not a first round pick he surely would have been cut by now. Hopefully, due to is age he will wise up, work much harder and get stronger so he may be able to contribute something by 2011. If not, his career will probably be over.

Spot on...and dissapointing as it ia to hear what we all know...im with those who like the frankness of gaiely/nix...i think long term they will cut rhe fat and get players

At this stage Gailey should have a pretty good idea that Maybin isn't in the cards as a defensive end and not as a linebacker. Cutting him or benching him for a long look at some other players is the only realistic option.

The organization doesn't have to "defend" the pick as it wasn't Gailey's or Nix's decision.

so the Director of College Scouting and the National Scout had nothing to do with the 1st pick

It was all Dick's fault

Sorry - not buying the Bills spin on all of the bad picks

The Bills blame the most recent departed official. When Marv left it was his fault. When Jauron left it was his fault. Wait until they unload on Modrak when he eventually gets canned.

Dick liked him because he was the DE that looked the most like a CB.

I don't get the TE position idea. I could see trying a TE who couldn't catch or run routes or remember blocking assignments as a situational pass rusher who has a much simpler role, but I definitely don't view that as a productive transition for him.

He needs to play better in practice and earn some more game reps, and then play better in games. He was drafted as a project, but we are way past draft day with no impact. He doesn't have to live up to his draft position...he is clearly a bust for his slot (like Whitner), but has to prove he can be a pretty good football player (like Whitner) or hand in his jersey sometime between now and the start of 2011 mini-camp.

I'm okay with him riding the bench until he shows something to Chan in practice, and I'm also okay with him being thrown to the wolves and given a chance to sink or swim with more snaps...either way I think he needs to become a different football player than he is right now, and I am not too optimistic of that happening right now.

There is really no good reason to invest more time and energy on a bust. This is all like some kid that flushed his allowance on a shiny new toy that broke 10 seconds after he got it out of the packaging. Just move on.

Buddy only Scouted the South East

and No he was definitely not involved in the Maybin Pick

Yeah - I guess being retired he couldn't venture too far from his home in Tennessee.

Only in Buffalo would none of the top talent evaluators see their #1 pick play and not have any input on his prospects

Bills fans are the most gullible in sports to buy this spin

How come Nix gets a Pass on Maybin? Nix was on the staff that selected him. After being promoted to GM, he fired no one in the college scouting department. He hired no one, demoted no one, changed nothing.

Now, that to me means he is ok with whoever was in charge with selecting him. I know if I was GM I would have booted whoever lked Maybin out the door on my first day.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but weren't you one of those who said he would flourish in the 3-4 at OLB?
