Biggest Issue at The Ralph Sunday

Ever Since '86

Recommended Posts

ATTENTION PARENTS: There is a VERY good chance you hear swears at a football game. If you are THAT worried about hearing swear words then stay the F home. I have a 10 yo and when I pull up to the stadium, I am ready for some cuss wordsm and we always come away with a few more in our vocab thn we left with. I KNOW this going in, and I made the choice to expose my precious angel to the harsh real world of grown ups swearing. REALLY...who do you people think you are? it is a GD football game. GROW UP. Little Johnny hears worse at his catholic school, get over it you puss.

If you are a Miami fan, and choose to show it then you are glutton for punishment, and I hope you like lots of nasty words and all the free beer coming your way. Jerseys dry fast and you wouldnt be covered in beer if you didnt wear yours. If you cant take it, then dont walk around with an orange target on your back. When I go down to Miami I DO wear my Bills jerseys...Annnd..wait for it....I EXPECT TO GET RAZZED (sometimes those big meanys even say the F word!!). I am a big boy and I dont cry and I am no worse off for it. There are NO BIGGER VJ FANS IN THE NFL than Dolphin fans. BOOO HOOO.

And this is the reason the Ralph has major issues. Hell, it's the reason the world has issues. People believe they have the right to do whatever they please at the expense of others.

Edit: Hah, I just noticed this was your first post on this account. So you wear this attitude like a badge of honor and then don't even have the balls to post under your main account? Truly pathetic.

Words like freedom & liberty actually mean nothing to you. I'm sure you'll try to deny it, but there was a time that your thoughts would be considered un-American. Now in our country, it's all about me, me, me. This attitude is what is taking our country down. It's not the economy, not taxes ... It's a me first, selfish, perverted view of liberty. Life is much better for everyone if you think of others before you consider your own desires. I still find it hard to believe that you admit that you're like this. I'd be embarrassed to admit something like that.

This thread has spiraled out of control.

I was in the same section with Pollack. He was a few rows down so I missed him.

The problem is our culture. It it isn't Buffalo, it isn't the Bills.

Alcohol is celebrated and encouraged. Listen, I've been there and done that. I am not saying don't drink, but it shouldn't be your goal to make an ass out of yourself in public, then try to defend why you did it. That is not how productive members of society act. Period. You can black out and puke on yourself at a game, but you really can't defend that, or blame ten years of Bills football for it. That is a lack of class on your end, or indicative of problems with substance abuse.

I swear at plays I don't stand that and scream at other people or just go on profanity laced rants, but that still doesn't make it right. Every time I yell "Come the !@#$ on!!" or "Not this !@#$ing **** again!" "Throw the !@#$ing ball, what is this ****, you kitty?" I regret it. I need to work on it, but I am amiable to those that surround me.

The way it was put to me when I was kid, by my father, was "It's called courtesy." That was anytime I did anything borderline inconsiderate. It stuck. That's what parents do, they teach their kids things like that. If you are a parent that is an !@#$ fan, you need to justify that you aren't that bad, for what I don't know, so you teach your kid. Good job.

I went to the Titans game last year, and their fans gave me a little ****, I knew I deserved it, as I was in a Lynch jersey, but we laughed and talked football. It was a great experience.

I love the Ralph, but the fans that think they are owed something by the team, and that feel they have a right to act like that are sad. There's a lot of them, but I wouldn't say they are the majority.

I never thought I would be the guy that said use the number of the fan line, but I guess I never thought people would act like that in public. I thought they could separate a real life from the game they watch, but the booze blurs their lines. It probably ruins those same peoples' lives everyday, or close to it. Maybe try the fan line, and let the Nazis come escort them out. I wish the people could control themselves, but to subject kids that kind of crap in poor logic. The kids still have a chance, why let them see that ****? The idiot yelling at a woman in a wheel chair, and making racist comments, and passing out after puking on himself is already !@#$ed.

Rap on, brother. That's it. You have freedom of speech, yes you do, but do you have enough courtesy to realize that doesn't make it right to take away from others' experience so you can exercise your right?

Courtesy is defined as a courteous, respectful, or considerate act or expression. That's exactly what I'm advocating by you look out for other's interests first. You've apparently missed my point. You're criticizing me for calling us to be less selfish? By saying I should show courtesy?

Really, profanity within reach of a woman's ears? Heaven forbid an adult hears a few naughty words. This isn't 1958.

Edit: If you were talking about them yelling at the woman who needed help walking then I agree with you.

You were not there and this went far beyond naughty words. To see a mother getting subjected to filthy and suggestive language in front of her children is pathetic. Someday you may be in the same position with your family.

Give me a break.

I love the idiots. I love the drunks. I love the passion. I love all of it. I have a kid and I'm always respectful and I still love it all. And all stadiums are the same.

If you want to raise your kids in a nice safe antiseptic bubble then keep them home. Or better yet, take them to see a high school football game and save a boatload of money and actually give them an experience they will probably appreciate a whole lot more.

Your original post should have said it was directed at said person and not "within earshot."

Two different things. Were ushers called? They are there for a reason.

Yeah, those idiots and drunks are so fun - until their aggression is targeted at you and your kids. Then, perhaps, it might not be so fun?

I've had drunk guys at the Ralph say lewd things to my wife. I didn't take it sitting down and his friends had to get in between us before the situation escalated. Yeah, those idiot drunks with passion are so much fun. They enhance everybody's game day experience!

But I guess I just want to live in an antiseptic world...

I couldn't agree more. I went to the last MNF game against Miami in the 80s, with my dad, before they decided that they were just getting too out of control. He didn't shelter me from it. We laughed at it together. Unless you haven't noticed (and you have), people are really stupid. You can either let it ruin your life and make you change what you do, or you can laugh at it and learn from it and let it have absolutely no bearing on your life at all. I choose the latter.

I agree with this.

As I posted elsewhere, I am thinking about calling it quits with this team and it is NOT because of the horrible product on the field. That, I've learned to endure.

I've been to dozens of games at the Ralph, I've sat everywhere, and I thought I'd seen it all. Sunday made me think otherwise, and I was sitting in expensive seats. The lowlights:

1) I saw a handicapped woman get heckled for taking too long to get down the stairs. She was being assisted, slowly, by an attendant, and someone yelled "Get a f'ing walker." (If that heckler is reading this, you should be ashamed of yourself - honestly, you are an a-hole to the core.)

2) After the non-call when Trent got roughed up along the sidelines, the idiot drunk kid sitting next to me turned to me and said, about the ref (who is African-American), "Typical f'ing n'er." (If you're reading this, you're a drain on society and should just throw yourself off of a bridge today.)

3) Some guy insisted on standing the whole time, even though he was about 6'3" and was standing in front of two small boys, whose father pleaded with him to please sit so they could watch the game. He responded, "Not at a Bills game - not a chance." (If you're reading this, Mr. Pollack - I assume that's your name because that was the last name on the Bills jersey you were wearing - you have no class. None.)

4) There were drunk teenagers everywhere. Beyond drunk - totally blacked out drunk, wasted, by the second quarter. (If you were one of them: listen, I like to party with the rest of you, but you really need to learn how to control yourselves. Seriously, get a freakin' life. It's just alcohol, and this isn't Russia, your lives cannot be that miserable that your only outlet is to get so inebriated on Sunday afternoons that you can't see straight. Time to be an adult and be productive. Sorry to be the one to tell you that, but obviously your own parents didn't/aren't.)

This was just a snippet, there was plenty more. And you know what? Despite what some of you might think, it's not like this at every stadium. Giants fans are very knowledgeable, passionate fans, but they don't act like complete jackasses. Same with Redskins fans and even Ravens fans. Really, the Bills, Jets, Eagles, and Browns are in a miserable class by themselves, and there is no excuse for it. I don't know if I can associate myself with it any longer. Perhaps I'm just getting older, or perhaps it really is getting worse. I don't know, but I don't think I could ever bring my kids to something like that, which is very, very sad.

I don't agree with the racially based heckling, but I support his right to do that, as long as its not violent. (1st amendment etc)

It was a weird crowd...I had some punk come up to us around the middle of the first quarter and say....get the !@#$ out of our seats, you guys are sitting in our seats...I calmly ask to see his tickets, since these are our season tickets....he comes back with "!@#$ you these are our seats"....finally realizes he is in the wrong part of the row and calls us !@#$s on his way by....1999 taterhill would still be beating him into the concrete.....luckily for him this is 2010 and kindler gentler taterhill laughed it off...btw he was a Bills fan

I'm all for my buddies getting bagged on but cheesus rice the bills fans who made comments to my buddies were pathetic...they did not get one original or funny comment all day...**** some of the drunk hardasses were just trying to pick fights with them for wearing their teams jersey... worst comment of the day "hey the justin beiber concert is down the street"... I felt obligated to turn around and tell the toolbag with no bills appearal on whatsoever just how big of a tool he was... I'm all for my bills fans beiong rowdy and mouthy..but yesterdays trash talking performance was nothing more then pathetic... Get original you dumb drunk fawks :)

Sorry -- but if I spend the bucks to take my family to a game, I don't want to have to deal with losers like you. Buying a ticket to an event doesn't give you the right to be an a**hole and spoil things for enyone within earshot.

Conversely buying a ticket to an event doesn't give you the RIGHT to dictate your version of correct behavior on 70K people. You and 90% of the people that would buy a ticket to an NFL game know the environment, if you don't like or condone it then don't buy a ticket. If enough others feel that way things will change.

If you want to spread your gospel go to a hip-hop concert and try to convert that crowd. You think NFL fans are abusive, profane and vile? I can almost guarantee that you wouldn't leave untouched.

On the other extreme sneak in a few beers, jump up when you are excited and start the wave at an opera and you likely won't make it to the 2nd act before getting tossed.

And can the phony sorry. Sorry == Passive aggressive cliche that my opinion is more important than yours.

I started taking my kids to the games in 92, I would have to say nothing has changed. Still drunk stupid people doing the same crap.

I can remember a huge fight out in the parking lot after the fish game in 95 or 96 had to be 100+ people . I still remember sitting in the truck with my daughter and watching people jump out of the back of a box truck on to a couch that they had set on fire.

I remember guys sitting in front of us yelling, your a fu*king **** to Jim Kelly the whole game when Kelly was nearing the end of his time. Girls and guys so drunk that they never saw the game because they passed out. Things I saw back in the 90s I still see today.

I see no number change in the drunks that enter the stadium.

The only thing different is I am getting older.

I do not know how any reasonable person who attended the game on Sunday can defend the overall behavior of fans at the Ralph. I have been attending games for 20 years and it is getting worse every year. People have no self control. I love to tailgate and have a few beers with friends and I always have a decent buzz by the time I walk through the gate, but that doesn't mean I need to act like a degenerate at the game. I have a five year old son that I would never dream of bringing to a game, and the profanity would be the least of my worries. It simply is not safe to take a child to Ralph Wilson stadium on Sundays.

I hear you, Stromboli Man!

I remember in the 60's, in the downtown stadium, I was at a game where a guy (Jets fan) was drinking something from an orange juice carton. Around half time he puked on a lady in front of him and then tried to wipe if off her. Another time a drunk behind me fell and essentially landed across my lap. He got standing and was trying to talk (apologize) and I told him to just go away. I was afraid he would barf on me! As he stood by the railing for the tunnel entrance weaving back and forth, people were yelling "Jump!".

General thread comments:

Bad behavior is not new.

I never felt it was acceptable!

Not when I was fifteen, and not 40 years later.

Why do people DEFEND these cretins?

I know I may have to tolerate this BS when I go to a game, but it is not anything I will justify.

I do not see how "growing a pair" will make me more tolerant of jerks.

This is my opinion, do not tell me to stay home and watch the game or go to church if I want people to behave, and I will not tell you how you should party

That said, my section was VERY well behaved for a football crowd. Not angels - not butt holes!

I agree, I don't think there are any more or any less drunks at the games. They just seem to be getting more and more obnoxious every year. Maybe I'm just getting older as well.

With the NFL sanitizing the environment so much, I wonder how long before obviously drunk people will be denied entrance to the game.

This policy is already in effect at the Ralph. You can see how much it is helping. <_<
