Perfect fit at QB for Gailey...

Recommended Posts

In a couple of the draft magazines I have been looking through, there is 1 player who stands out the most to me, at one of the Bills' positional needs heading into the draft.

The thing I like about this guy is that he could potentially fill 1-4 different needs.

Armanti Edwards - QB/WR/RB/KR/PR - Appalachian State

In Pro Football Weekly's 2010 NFL Draft Magazine, Edwards is the 4th rated passer. It says he has the potential to be the next Michael Vick, without the baggage. He could sit back for 1-3 years and learn. However, he would be able to produce as a specialist/role player, in the Wildcat or Pistol formation, until he is ready to takeover a team.

PRO DAY RESULTS: Last year it was West Virginia QB Pat White who was all the rage leading up to the draft due to his versatile skills and ability to run the Wildcat formation. This year, it's Appalachian State QB Armanti Edwards who brings similar talents to the table. Edwards, who led the Mountaineers to a national title in his freshman year, truly burst onto the national scene as a sophomore in 2007 when he led Appalachian State to a historic upset of host Michigan. He has continued to develop since then, and now finds himself a potential mid-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft. He's going to be one of those guys that will give defensive coordinators gray hairs trying to defend him, and he showed why with an exceptional workout at Appalachian State's pro day on March 16. Ravens receivers coach Jim Hostler and Eagles QB coach James Urban were on hand to watch Edwards and five other players work out indoors on FieldTurf. Edwards (5-foot-11, 192 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.44 and 4.41 seconds, had a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump, a 10-foot, 3-inch broad jump, a 4.19-second short shuttle, a 6.74-second three-cone drill and did 13 bench press repetitions at 225 pounds. He also did position drills as both a quarterback and receiver. - Gil Brandt, NFL.com

Should the Bills fashion themselves as Armanti or Levi?

And wasn't Armanti Dawson the Center for the Steelers awhile back? Or maybe an outfielder for the Cubs?

<--------- I think Levi is more the Bills style. Buffalo is blue collar and what better to wear than blue jeans.

It compared him to Pat White...that doesn't sound too flattering. But you never know...

When I see him, I see "great athlete." He is the poor man's version of Tim Tebow having played at a lesser named collegiate football program.

Yeah...Kordell Stewart, Pat White, "Option Quarterbacks", come to mind.

If the Bills are sold on this college "pistol" offense, then sure, I'd take him in the 5th round, but otherwise, I would pass.

I've seen quite a lot of Edwards here. He was excellent in college, especially in Division 2. Yes, he stepped out and beat some big boys from time to time like Michigan, but the overwhelming knock on him is his size. He just isn't big enough to be a NFL quarterback. He is blazing fast and can throw the ball well, but he can't see over the linemen in front of him.

I agree with you I also wouldn't mind the Bills using the pistol offense as a base offense. If they don't like what they see in the top guys and this guy is available late he would be worth a look. If not a starting QB could be an athlete/Wr gadget player like Hines ward or antwan randell el early in their careers.

How tall is Drew Brees? Doug Flutie? Marc Brunnell? Height isn't that big of a deal. Is Colt McCoy too short as well?

So, I'm guessing your argument is, if one can do it they all can?

Brees is 6 even. Brunell is is 6'1". Flutie is 5'10", and his success can be argued, really so can Brunell's.

At 5'11" and 192#, he's not a candidate for anything except maybe WR. Maybe DB.

Took the words out of my mouth Doc. I was just about to say that a Scatback, or WR is about all hes going to be. 5'11" is just too short to be QB in the NFL.

Let's draft him!

Just make sure we give him #5. A lot of jerseys that won't have to be thrown out for a couple more years :bag:

LOL, but the ones that say Edwards now and have #5 are just tainted. Its better off to burn them and start over.
