Chan Gailey Sure is a Busy Guy

Recommended Posts

I heard Chan personally took down every one of the TV's in the weight room. EVERY. LAST. ONE. And as he was leaving, he leaned back in the room and shouted: "Now that's coaching!"

Well, that would have been something. Not necessarily something productive...but something.

I'm a little surprised by how litle Gailey has done, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. We had better have a 9 or more wins this year. We get that I'm happy with him. We don't, throw the bum out. I don't know how he plans to have a winning season next year based on his actions to date, but there are still some things he can do to improve the situation in the next few weeks. Wait and see.

I hope that is sarcasm...

How about we make him call all of us, befor he does anything involving the team.

Does he really have to annoucne everything. How do any of us know what he has done yet.

Give the guy a break he has only been here what 2 months...

By the end of next season he'll have been here plenty of time. A nine game or more win record is quite reasonable and quite doable...assuming the guy actually does something. I'm not saying throw the bum out now...throw the bum out if he doesn't produce a significant improvement next season.

Here's a thought for you. It is called my "opinion." I don't know what I'm talking about? Look up the answer Gailey gave the media when they asked how long he planned on taking to evaluate his most important position on the team. You will find many different places that all have him saying something along the lines of "...I will know by the start of free agency what direction we will be heading with the QB situation."...

So, since you are so much smarter then me - please tell what direction Chan and Buddy are heading with the all important QB situation? So far, it looks a lot like Jauron's direction from this time last year, doesn't it?

He said he would know, not necessarily that you would know.

And hasn't won a game yet. Proof this off-season was a complete joke.

Chan's hiring was a joke.

Nix is a joke.

The entire Bills organization is a joke.

This entire reply is a joke (and not to be taken seriously).

You sir, yes you, may choose to drink the Kool Aid, but BillsPhan will not!!

For what it's worth, Chan Gailey was just on FAN590 -- that's a Toronto sportstalker, for those of you outside the area -- and shared some thoughts on a few subjects. Most of it echoed what he told reporters earlier this week. The main topics:

As it stands right now, there's an open competition for the quarterback job. They need to add another one to the roster, but he didn't provide any details about how they were going to do that. No hints about the No. 1 pick or suggestions that they were interested in trading for a certain Philadelphia player, in other words. No surprise there; he knows how to play the media game.

Tim Tebow is an incredible leader, but he "has a hitch in his motion that would not allow him to be a successful quarterback at the NFL level" unless he corrects it. Judging by his pro day and workout, he has made some progress on that during this offseason ... but overall, Gailey doesn't sound too impressed with pro-day performances, calling them an opportunity to "look good for the press and the fans." Used the what's-going-to-happen-when-the-bullets-fly reference again, saying, "You don't know if he can change it -- and if it'll stick."

The secondary is the strongest part of the team. In fact, that's the only position where he feels pretty good about their depth as the draft approaches. "Other than that," he said, "we can afford help almost anywhere."

Left tackle is "definitely one of our thought processes going into the draft, and a very high priority." Overall, he feels that a team can never have enough quality offensive linemen. More coachspeak, sure, but still a departure from the team's M.O. for most of the last decade.

Cue the snarls about how Gailey has time to talk to a radio station but not personally escort Lynch to workouts, in 3... 2... 1...

No wonder this guy has never been in the NFL as a coach very long. Also it's no wonder why he's never taken anyone to the playoffs as a head coach. Get him outta there

Further proof the cyber highway is strewn with complete morons. Gailey was a head coach for two years in Dallas and took the team to the playoffs both years. You should think before you post.

Give a coach 1 offseason to turn around a highly dysfunctional team? What makes you think the Dan Snyder approach to coaching would work in Buffalo?

I've known about NFL head coaches sleeping in their offices and spending 110 hour work weeks for years. But this Gailey guy, he doesn't even seem to have time to fit much in even during the off season. Just read some of his quotes:

"Our GM has spoken to him (Marshawn Lynch) I have not talked to him." - I say, why the hell not, Chan? He's only a former number one pick who is still extremely young, and if someone can figure out how to work with this kid, they could have a great running back for the next 8 years or so. Or even on the flip side. If you are too "important" to waste your time reaching out to one of your current players on your roster, just how many other teams are going to be interested in trading for him?

"He's an intelligent football player and I really enjoyed the short time I had with him....(Talking about Tim Tebows' Buffalo workout). What does Gailey mean, "short time" he had with him? Tebow was in Buffalo, working out only for the Buffalo Bills. Jim Kelly took the kid out to dinner. What other more important dinner plans did Chan have that night? Was he glued in front of his TV watching Dancing With The Stars? Was he and Buddy out shooting pool at their favorite honky tonk while Kelly spent "quality time" with a kid that just might end up being drafted by the Bills??

"We just started talking about terminology and implementation of what we're trying to do," Gailey said of his initial meeting with Edwards, Fitzpatrick and Brohm. "I haven't sat down and talked to (the QB's) about the situation. I haven't addressed that yet." That is a quote from TODAYS' Democrat and Chronicle. Here's the link below: http://www.democratandchronicle.com/articl...e-Bills-starter

Wow. So when exactly does Chan expect to "discuss the situation" with the three QB's he allegedly took so much time to study up on the past 3 months? After all, he's made his decision on what to do about the QB situation for his Buffalo Bills, right? He told us in no uncertain terms, he would know what direction he would be going in before free agency started. And here we are, about a month into free agency, and Chan has said nothing to anyone about what he and Nix allegedly decided over a month ago. The same three guys are here, wondering what the hell their roles are going to be, and workouts are starting and we are just a few weeks from the draft.

I guess Mike Holmgren has a different take on "making QB decisions." He dumped both guys from last year's team, and has already brought in two veterans to replace them. Now I'm not saying Delhomme and Wallace will be much better then Quinn or Anderson. But at least Holmgren showed his team that he will not accept the same old same old.

So far in free agency, Buddy Nix has shown we Bills fans that he is prepared to absolutely accept the same old same old from last years' players that currently take up the most important positions on the team. QB - same 3 guys. LT - same injured guys. NT - same 2 undersized DT's. WR - Same guys minus TO. And on top of that, Chan Gailey has been the busiest head coach in the NFL. Too bad nobody knows what the hell he spends all of that time doing.

Wow! and I thought that I over-analyze things! I think some of his answers lack in revealing Chan Gailey's real thoughts and the plan the organization has regarding the QB situation. I think it would be a mistake to be purely on the level to the news media prior to the draft. I don't buy into the Scat back comment Gailey made about his intentions in the draft. I don't think they will use a 9th overall pick in this draft for a RB for a second! Philly's coach A. Reid didn't talk to McNabb until just the other day. It is a little premature to worry quite yet. I would believe the focus is on the draft and unless M. Lynch is traded he'll most likely be here for mandatory Bill's functions. I've had vacations that I classified as a "Short time", or "Short visit", and they lasted a weekend, a week, or even a little longer. I think you are reading too much into it and the

evasive answers that Bill's management make. Relax, check out the 3 day draft, see who we get, see if we get anymore

FA's, etc....Good news is that the Bills will field a team this year and have 22 starters on offense and defense. I will also guarantee they will we at least one game and that they will not win the Superbowl this year! Other than that, sit back in your easy chair, fire up the grill, and pop the popcorn because it will be okay, and the fans of the Bills really don't have

a direct impact in what the Bills organization does anyways!

Only thing I know is that the last game of this season I'll be sitting in the stands knowing that I have something to cheer for. Whether it be a playoff spot this year or maybe the next. One thing I'll Know is that we're way better prepared for being in a playoff run then when we were 5-0 two years ago. So, be what it may. I believe we're heading in the right direction

Man this is the second post of yours i've read, after 2 i wish you would just become a fan for another team cause your attitude about this team sucks as bad as we did last year ---- or worse . Maybe you should send your resume to Mr. Wilson & become our next head coach cause it's pretty apparent no one knows as much about how to run or build a team the right way than you !!!! Drink a couple beers & chill out !!!

Its not a highly dysfunctional team. There are eight more dysfunctional teams that would better fit that moniker. I think it is reasonable to expect a significant improvement in one year. We have free agency, trades and the draft to address personnel needs and a very experienced new coaching staff. Let's put a bottom line out there and let the coach and GM know that results are expected quickly. I'm not asking that we even get to the playoffs or take a divisional title in the first year...just give nine wins. Why on earth couldn't that be an expectation with improvements in personnel and coaching? How many games did we lose last year on stupid plays and really stupid penalties? How many injuries did we have on defense? My goodness some of you guys are so used to losing I think you actually like it.
