Chan Gailey Sure is a Busy Guy

Recommended Posts

Well, that would have been something. Not necessarily something productive...but something.

you guys are completely wrong about Gailey.

He evaluated the offense- which was completely putrid the last few years and probably concluded that:

1. OL is a joke and its one really solid guy had his knee mangled last year

2.the QB position is worse than the OL,

3. the WR & TE position is really thin

Unfortunately, instead of stopping here and formulating a plan to draft or acquire some talent to fill these gaping holes, he then looked at the defense.\

He decided to immediately switch to a 3-4, which will require a complete overhaul of the front 7 which will require most the draft and free agent resources available in the off-season.

We will see how the draft goes, but expect the defense to be addressed early and often and the OL to be ignored as has been the Bills standard practice for the last 15 years.

who said Chan has not been busy has not been paying attention.

For what it's worth, Chan Gailey was just on FAN590 -- that's a Toronto sportstalker, for those of you outside the area -- and shared some thoughts on a few subjects. Most of it echoed what he told reporters earlier this week. The main topics:

As it stands right now, there's an open competition for the quarterback job. They need to add another one to the roster, but he didn't provide any details about how they were going to do that. No hints about the No. 1 pick or suggestions that they were interested in trading for a certain Philadelphia player, in other words. No surprise there; he knows how to play the media game.

Tim Tebow is an incredible leader, but he "has a hitch in his motion that would not allow him to be a successful quarterback at the NFL level" unless he corrects it. Judging by his pro day and workout, he has made some progress on that during this offseason ... but overall, Gailey doesn't sound too impressed with pro-day performances, calling them an opportunity to "look good for the press and the fans." Used the what's-going-to-happen-when-the-bullets-fly reference again, saying, "You don't know if he can change it -- and if it'll stick."

The secondary is the strongest part of the team. In fact, that's the only position where he feels pretty good about their depth as the draft approaches. "Other than that," he said, "we can afford help almost anywhere."

Left tackle is "definitely one of our thought processes going into the draft, and a very high priority." Overall, he feels that a team can never have enough quality offensive linemen. More coachspeak, sure, but still a departure from the team's M.O. for most of the last decade.

Cue the snarls about how Gailey has time to talk to a radio station but not personally escort Lynch to workouts, in 3... 2... 1...

Thanks for posting that, finally, a head coach with a decent understanding of an offense.

I agree with #1&3, and I disagree with #2, the QB position can't be judged properly with the type of line play they had last season.

Considering the offensive ineptitude that surrounded the team under Dick Jauron... I'd say any hasty decisions on player personnel would be imprudent and unwise. Edwards still may have the ability to lead the team if he has the proper support around him.

No wonder this guy has never been in the NFL as a coach very long. Also it's no wonder why he's never taken anyone to the playoffs as a head coach. Get him outta there

No wonder you missed the boat and are stuck on the island of misfit toys.

His NFL resume is: two years as HC at Dallas and he went to the playoffs both season.

Do you follow football?
