Seattle will still take Clausen at 6 if he's still there which he very well might not be. It's a lot of cash, but so what? It's an uncapped year and the Seahawks are owned by a Microsoft gazillion-aire. He has more money than god. He has a yacht you can land a helicopter on. Think he'll miss $5,000,000.00 this year?

Seattle now has Hasselbeck and 2 guys who have never attempted a pass in the NFL. Crazy.

Wow, that yacht is insane!

I would love to live the life of 1 of these people, just for 1 day...ya think it's true that money can't buy happiness and all these people have problems, get stressed and even depressed, like the rest of us "average" people???

This is why you draft a QB every year folks. San Diego just got a lot, for nothing.

Couldn't agree any more Coach. Draft a QB every year. I like Zac Robinson this year, 5th round. Forget Claussen and the "one guy will save the team" mentality. He may not be worth a #1 That's for the braintrust to decide.

Every year? How often do people get second round picks for their 3rd string QB?

Yup, every year. It's amazing what a backup QB who looks decent in some preseason/spot relief work will command on the open market. If the Bills had sat Edwards after his first few games as a starter they probably could've found a serious trading partner. Rob Johnson had one good game as a pro and the Bills dealt a first round pick for him. Kevin Kolb would command at least a 2nd. These guys have proven nothing, but young backup QBs who are considered up-and-coming are always overrated.

It's not like we didn't have the chance to do something like this. We had both Hamdan and Brohm to showcase last year, and instead, except for Brohm's one limited chance, we start a guy like Fitz.

I'm convinced that if Tom Brady were on our roster, he'd still be sitting on the bench.

seattle's not taking claussen now, i think he's the bills pick now for better or worse.

I don't think this is true.

Whitehurst is insurance for Hasselbeck; a guy that they believe can start if/when Matt goes down with an injury. He's also a guy that they believe can fill in for the time being until a young guy is ready to play.

I think Clausen is still very much in play for Seattle at 6.

This deal ends any possibility of the Bills getting Terrance Cody. Living in San Diego here is the reason the Chargers made this deal. By moving 20 spots in the 2nd round, allowed them to take Cody with the 28th pick in the 1st round instead of running back Ryan Matthews. By moving up 20 spots in the 2nd round they have no teams between there pick at 28 until they pick again at 40 who have a running back need.

Assuming CJ Spiller goes to Cleveland with the 7th pick (highly likely) and Houston going CB at 20, no other teams were sure-fire locks to take a running back until San Diego drafted at 28. However if they take Ryan Matthews at 28, many teams would take Cody between 29 and 39, such as the Rams, Lions or Chiefs and nobody between 29 and 39 was going to take a running back, Jets at 29, no, Vikings at 30, no, Colts at 31, no, Saints at 32 no. Rams, Lions, Bucs, Chiefs, Skins, Browns or Oakland all have RB's or have recently made moves in free agency to address this need.

This move is brilliant for San Diego as it addresses their two biggest needs and as a Bills fan I am thinking that Cam Thomas is probably going to the the NT we will have to select in round 2

How on earth Seattle could determine that Whitehurst was worth swapping 2nd rounders AND giving-up a 3rd, for a guy who has never thrown a regular season pass in (his 4 seasons in) the NFL, is anyone's guess! And it's not like his pre-season numbers were anything to write home about.

Obtaining Whitehurst proves costly for Seahawks

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on March 17, 2010 6:02 PM ET

For better or worse, the first years of the Pete Carroll era in Seattle will be defined by Charlie Whitehurst.

ESPN's John Clayton reports that the Seahawks have obtained Whitehurst, a restricted free agent, from the Chargers. Seattle will move down 20 picks in the second round of the 2010 draft and give up a third-round pick in 2011 to get San Diego's third-string quarterback.

But that's not the costly part.

The Seahawks have agreed to terms on a two-year deal with Whitehurst that is expected to pay him $5 million-per-year. Yikes.

Whitehurst has not attempted a regular season pass as a pro, but he should fairly soon with that contract.

Give Carroll and G.M. John Schneider credit for targeting their guy and having the cajones to go get him. They just better be right.

This move tells you a lot about what the Seahawks organization thinks of this years QB crop coming out....
