It's called deflecting criticism from your all-world QB, Bill. The Colts' OL played a great game.

 

The team ran for over 6 yards per carry and Manning was never even knocked down. They lost because Manning threw a bad interception at a crucual time, and then failed to make plays at the end of the game, so he subsequently came under fire, and Polian responded by shifting the blame to the OL. You could also argue that they lost because of play calling...how could you not run the ball more when you're gashing your opponent for that many yards consistently?

 

In fact, using this Superbowl would only serve to prove ICE's point. The better OL on Feb. 7th, 2010 belonged to the Colts (as Brees was sacked once, knocked down several times, and NO ran for less than 3 yards per carry), but the better QB that day played for New Orleans, and they won the game.

Yeah I read it and I still say its all about the QB. Vikings have a great OL and didn't do **** till farve got there. I don't give a damn if we have the best OL EVER, Trent Edwards nor anyother of the scrubs on this team are going to get us to the superbowl.

 

Hell even Gailey gets it where he said it's a QUARTERBACK driven league.

I love the "all or nothing" mentality everyone seems to have.

 

It's not "all about" anything in a team sport. The Super Bowl was won by the team with the 2nd round pick free agent QB and the team that made the bigger plays in each phase of the game.

 

You have to have good linemen who play cohesively, a good/great QB, talented skill position players who don't make mistakes and a coaching staff that understands its team and can put them into the best position to succeed.

 

It doesn't matter what position the BILLS draft in the first round - that player has to live up to his slot.

The All-world QB who actually had a pretty good game, despite the lack of blocking. turnovers happen late in games when a team is behind.

while I agree with building from the lines out...Simply believing you can win with having a monster o-line with no QB at the helm is like believing you could get through the snowmageddon in your souped up hummer with your 95 yr old grandmother driving. You need someone steering the ship that is competent enough to make all the other parts effective.

I would have though d-line was bigger issue - hard for Manning and o-line to do much when they spent a nearly all of the 2Q on the sidelines then did not get the ball to start 2H due to special teams miscue.

The Colts lost because Freeney and Wayne weren't 100%, the Saints made a risky gamble on the insides kick and luckily recovered it, and the Colts made the stupid decision to kick a 51-yard FG with a 42-year old kicker. The INT just sealed the deal, because I didn't get the sense that Manning/the Colts' offense would have sealed the deal even if he wasn't picked.
