Is Brohm the future or do the bills go for another?

Did the bills sign Brohm to be the starter next year? Do they start him in either of the two remaining games? I'm teetering on a ledge with both of these questions. I think I'd like to see what he can do, but then again, could doing so have ill effects? Perhaps it would be wise to get the offensive line firmed up before attempting this.

I think they signed him because they thought he was more talented than Hamdan.

If we go into next year with Brohm as the starter, we are in big trouble once again. You really want to go into a season with a guy who was beaten out by a 5th round rookie in Green Bay, has 0 career regular season passes and looked totally lost in pre-season games?

If I were king for a day, I bring in a new QB... and I don 't hesitate.

There's a reason Brohm was rotting on the Packers practice squad. He replaced Hamdam. Replacing Hamdam with Gino Torretta would have been an upgrade. Come to think of it, Gino might have beaten out the other two.

That actually is an interesting question.

I don't really buy the 'just upgrading Hamden" argument. Hamden at least knew the system and apparently had a good working relationship with Edwards and presumably AVP. Why replace him with someone brand new to the organization just to watch from the sidelines.

Do they think that maybe he has the ability to start next season (or 2) while they groom a (hopefully) talented draft pick? I sure don't know. But I think even One Bills Drive knows they can't survive another season with either Edwards or Fitz running the offense.

I have never really understood why so many people say don't play him because our offensive line sucks and it might somehow damage him. Yes he will probably get the crap kicked out of him, but as long as he is not seriously hurt, one would think the playing time would only help him understand the speed and dynamics of the NFL game and give the fans and more importanly the coaches and future FO (hopefully) a better gauge to see if he is anything.

I understand that not playing him last week as the Pats game was a big deal for Fewell and the organization but now it is really just like an early pre-season. I still want the Bills to win, as I don't think any "real" fan cheers for their team to lose for draft picks, but lets see who might be worth keeping in 2010.

The fact that Fewell came out and said Brohm wont play this season after joining after mid season shows they expect him to be an option and to compete for the job. They never at any point said squat about Hamdan or addressed whether he would ever see the field despite how bad our QB's have played.

People forget just 3 years ago he was projected to be the #1 pick in the draft but chose to stay in school. His Sr. year he was even better than his Jr. year but slipped behind Flacco and Ryan after his team finsihed 6-6 because the defense at Louisville couldnt stop a high school offense that year.

If Brohm was in the draft this year he would likely be the top QB taken. I would be utterly shocked if we took a QB early in this years draft unless some big name fell to us in the 2nd round or something. I really think Brohm was brought here as a guy with big upside and they will give him every opportunity to win this job. Going with Brohm gives us so MUCH more flexibility in the early parts of the draft where we can address our lines in the first 2 rounds.

The team needs to bring in a handful of Qbs with potential. Brian Brohm is the first of a few hopefully. A veteran free agent would be an obvious security blanket as well.

Who do you have in mind...Other than Garcia, I do not believe there is any viable QBs available in FA...We got a Veteran QB in Ryan Fitz last year and he sucks....

I don't think it makes a bean of difference. We need someone who can help develop a QB first. That's the one thing all the good QBs have. Even Kelly had Marchibroda. Manning has Moore. Brady had Belichik/Weis. Right now our staff couldn't develop photographs at WalMart.

I like Jason Campbell as a stopgap. He is playing half way decent this season and is still young. Washington is a flat out terrible situation for a QB, just like here.

If you can visualize him as a caretaker, it's not a bad choice. The team could then bring in a handful of young QBs to fight it out and hopefully develop.

Agreed. A Qb specialist would be well worth the cost.

How, do you know Brohm wont succeed? It's all about the right system for QB's. Rich Gannon was a bum until he hooked up with the right offense. Ounce he got to Oakland he became the MVP of the league. Oakland had a good coach at the time (Gruden) with a cheesy offensive line I'd add. So it all comes down to a system. Ounce we get a good coach and the right offense in place, than we can start evaluating our QB of the future. My opinion, get as many good QB's as we can so they can fight it out in pre-season.

I think they signed him because they thought he was more talented than Hamdan.

And Hamdan in a way was around as a behind-the-scenes advisor to Trent. As Chris Brown had played up in his articles, Hamdan and Trent had a close relationship and Hamdan would often dish advice to Trent and Trent used Hamdan as a sounding board.

With Trent benched, Hamdan's value was diminished. So Brohm was brought in as he was more talented than Hamdan, as you stated.

The best thing they can do with Brohm is pack him in ice until next season, then let him try to win the QB job in training camp. If they play him now, the fans that hope he is the messiah will lose hope, the O-line will get him killed and he will become the record-breaking next guy the Bills put on IR. If a guy gets put on IR when he is dead, how long do they have to keep paying him?

I tend to agree. Why give him his first concussion now with this season over already.

Does anyone have an accurate view on Brohm?

The kid was considered the top QB prospect in the game at one point and then his stock dropped significantly.

Still, there is no way he gained all of these accolades w/o having a considerable amount of raw talent.

I personally have never seen him play and I am skeptical as to why he was let go by the Packers (though it is clear they are set at starting QB for awhile).

There was speculation on PFT that the Bills wanted to sign Brohm for awhile, but Jauron was against the move. Thus, he was signed immediately after Jauron's departure. Not sure what that means, but it is worth noting.

Jason Campbell would be a very good stopgap solution. Try to groom Brohm and maybe if Tebow is available in the second round you go for him. The only QB I would seriously consider in the first round would be Clausen, but having said that, I'd rather draft a OT, DT, LB or DE in that spot.
