I'd call her moderate-left. The important issue to me is that she view the Constitution as a living document, to be interpreted with consideration to the current culture and prevailing beliefs. To be consistent, a strict constructionist should argue the right to bear arms should only apply to the weapons of the time the Constitution was created, thus only single shot rifles and pistols should be allowed. But as we know they say they're strict, but are not. I'd rather have someone who backs up what they advocate with their decisions. In the end the conservatives will use her nomination for some fundraising, but unless she is found to have bought Rush some Oxycoton in a parking lot. she will be approved by the Senate by a large majority.

I look forward to conservatives publicly voicing opposition to a Hispanic woman who grew up in the projects, was previously appointed to the bench by George Bush I, and was previously approved by a number of Republicans in the Congress for her appointed court positions. The war of words between the Hatch/McCain/Powell moderate Republicans and the RNC (Rush/Newt/Cheney) conservative Republicans will be interesting. Conservatives don't like activist judges unless they're active in cases such as reversing Roe vs Wade, Terry Schivo, blurring the lines between church and state, and torture. Keep shrinking that Republican "big tent".

Eliminate field goals in overtime, force a team to score a touchdown. It would be more exciting.

It's not useless to people like Dick Cheney who was willing to get false information as long as it was what he wanted to hear, namely a terrorist saying there was a link between 9/11 and Iraq so he could use it to support the administration's false claims. But if you want true information, it's useless, as has been stated my many military and CIA veterans who are familiar with the results.

The Coming Invasion of Pakistan
PastaJoe replied to Boom Jam's topic in Politics, Polls, and Pundits
The U.S. is not going to invade Pakistan in an Iraq-type occupation for the simple reason that we don't have the resources to do it. A more likely scenario is that the Pakistan military stage a coup with a wink from the U.S. if the Taliban appear to be in a position to overthrow the civilian leadership, and if needed a small force of U.S. troops would be brought in at the Pakistani's request to help secure the nukes, or the U.S. would even take the nuclear material out of the country. I wouldn't be surprised if this is an existing planned contingency. -
Rodney Dangerfield was the best, with kudos to Don Rickles and George Carlin. My current favorite that makes me laugh whenever I hear her is Lisa Lampanelli.

If all of these protesters are consistent and doing it for religious reasons, then where were they when GWBush gave the commencement at ND? He supports and actively enforced the death penalty in Texas, which is just as opposed to by the Catholic church as abortion. They had a few, but nothing like those against Obama. Let's face it, it's just another excuse for anti-Obama people to protest him, just like the teabaggers. They're free to do so, just like the protesters in Crawford were to protest Bush, but let's be honest on what this really is about.

It's not a scandal, that implies that she did something illegal, which she didn't. It's her word against a notetaker from the CIA, the same CIA who said Sen. Bob Graham had 4 briefings, when his records showed he had only 1, which they agreed was correct and they were mistaken. The issue IS Bush/Cheney re: the Iraq war justification. The Pelosi topic is just a way to distract from the real issue. Cheney is taking the offensive because he knows that if there is ever a commission on his involvement and approval, he's in trouble. Put them all under oath; Cheney, Bush, Rumsfeld, AND Pelosi, and let's get all the facts out.

I guess the coaches didn't make clear to him what they meant when they told him to go home and practice the hurry up offense.

Oof, thanks for making me throw up in my mouth.

Hard to watch the show once it became a sausage fest. Is it a fact or a rumor that Lambert is gay? I wonder if the young girls that are voting for him know that.

Greg Paulus To Play QB For Syracuse Orangemen
PastaJoe replied to bills44's topic in Off the Wall Archives
Former Duke University point guard Greg Paulus is coming home to Syracuse to play football for his final year of NCAA eligibility. Paulus a graduate of Christian Brothers Academy in Syracuse, announced his decision during a teleconference call from Duke on Thursday morning. "My heart and my gut told me Syracuse was the best place for me," Paulus said. Paulus, 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, also made official visits to Michigan and Nebraska before making his decision. He worked out for the Green Bay Packers in April, sparking a renewed interest in playing football. Paulus was named the Gatorade National High School Player of the Year as a high school senior. He threw for 11,763 yards and 152 touchdowns during his career at CBA. Paulus now has to seek a waiver from the NCAA to play for Syracuse. He is expected to enroll this summer as a graduate student and begin voluntary workouts with the team. http://www.syracuse.com/today/index.ssf/20...to_play_fo.html Went to my old high school. He led them to the state championship. But he only gets to play one year of football if allowed by the NCAA. -
You're a piece of work. This is why you're not taken seriously. Complain about people not being able to say what they want, and then telling people to STFU. Moronic.

Because some retired golfer is an expert on the views of the military. Let's see his research that shows that the military would like to shoot civilian public officials. Can he provide the names of those serving that have that opinion, so it can be verified? I can imagine the uproar from you if he had said Bush and Cheney. 1. It was kidneys, not liver. 2. Rush isn't a public official. 3. Wanda Sykes is an unfunny hack who went over the line like Don Imus did when he did the event. I already heard Whoopie Goldberg chastise her for going too far.
-
Yeah, just listen to the right wing talking heads for your marching orders. Saying that any public official should be shot, whether it's Bush, Cheney, Pelosi, or Reid, is irresponsible.

I agree that it was crappy when only white men made the rules.

No, he authorized the shooting of 3 pirates who were threatening to kill their civilian hostage. If he had done nothing and let the hostage be killed, you right wingers would have been screaming about how it shows he can't even protect one American. Stop being a hypocrite. And what does that military action have to do with gun control? Or are you one of those wackos who think we need our guns to fight the American military?

Often it costs more to fix the damage done than it does to do the damage in the first place. The economy is in the emergency room after years of neglect and overindulgence.

I consider Kennedy as more to the right, so right now the court leans more to the right than the majority of Americans. Hopefully Stevens, Ginsburg, and possibly Kennedy will retire while Obama is still president so they are replaced with younger justices with a moderate judicial temperament, as the conservatives will probably be there for awhile.

I know Dick Cheney acted above the law because he thought our democracy failed, and favored corporate welfare as opposed to real capitalism, but I didn't know he was Austrian.
