In my first post, I said at the end if the season and if Orton keeps playing at the level he is at now or better. So, how is that jumping the gun? If the Bills sign Orton (at the end of the season) to a 4-5 year extension, they can focus on plugging in the remaining holes on the team, such as the Guard positions, and gain more depth.

I agree. IMO, both the Bears & Broncos were greedy and wanted more out of the QB position. From talking Bears fans during the Lovie Smith era, they weren't happy unless they won a Super Bowl so anything less than a Super Bowl victory was unacceptable. In Denver, Orton put up good numbers (had 3600+ passing yards & 20TD's in two consecutive seasons), but it seemed they wanted more and when the Broncos used a 1st round pick on Tebow, management wanted Tebow as the starter. So I feel this is a great situation for Orton to be in right now.

I know it's only 4 games, but I can't help being impressed with Kyle Orton, especially when you consider he was not here for OTA's, minicamp, training camp and all 5 preseason games. Each week, Orton is getting better as he is having a better feel for the offense and gains more chemistry with his receivers. If Orton keeps progressing, should the Bills sign him to a contract extension at the end of the year?

Kyle Orton Gets Fantasy Plug vs. the Jets
Jerry Jabber replied to jethro_tull's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Hopefully Orton will be able to pass for 3 TD's or more against the Jets secondary. The one thing good about Bryce Brown not being used up until this point is that he is fresh and that could payoff for the Bills. -
Was the game sloppy…yes. Embarrassing…No!! I don't care how good a team is, there will be games where things don't go right and the team doesn't look sharp. IMO, today was one of those games for the Bills and they managed a game winning drive with less than 3 minutes to go. We went through this with Rob Johnson and Doug Flutie so it's nothing new.

+1 Johnson only completed 10 passes, sacked 6 times including a safety, fumbled the ball deep in Titans territory, and threw for zero TD's that game. Johnson only played good for 2 minutes of the game and that's what some people only remember and act as if he played great all game long. I enjoyed the episode last night and it brought back some good memories of when Flutie was the Bills QB and when the Bills were in the playoffs. +1 The biggest boneheaded decision in franchise history. -
Hackett not properly using Spiller & Jackson
Jerry Jabber replied to Jerry Jabber's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
` I remember when fans were bashing Gailey for not giving the ball to Spiller enough because he was averaging over 6 yards a carry. Turns out, Gailey was the only one that knew how to use Spiller properly. -

Hackett not properly using Spiller & Jackson

I think all of us know it is a passing league except Marrone and Hackett. It's pretty sad that it's been 22 years since the Bills had a TE that had 100+ yards in one game, while since that time, TE's in the league have had 100+ yards receiving over 260 times. -

I also talked about the secondary as well. Gilmore hasn't been what people expect from a #1 corner. I'll give the Pats WR credit for making the first TD catch as he outmuscled two Bills CB's, but with two CB's on one WR, the Bills CB's should have won that battle. -
IMO, the problems the Bills have on offense can be laid squarely on Hackett's shoulders. His play calling is way too conservative as he tries to run the ball early and often and doesn't start calling for more pass plays until the 2nd half when the Bills are down by 10 points or more. What's even more frustrating is that he does not use the RB's in pass plays, unless it's dump offs or screens. Chan Gailey had Spiller and Jackson lined up everywhere on the field and used them effectively in the passing game. Spiller is the type of RB that needs to get in open space to be effective and he should be used in the slot and on deep passes (which Gailey used to do). Even the last Bills win against the Patriots, Gailey had Jackson in the slot and Freddie took the ball over 50 yards down to the 1/2 yard line, setting up the game winning FG. I know the Bills are having a very hard time running the ball because the Guards are ineffective, but Hackett should use the RB's much more in the passing game. I think Marrone should fire Hackett in the offseason and bring in an experienced OC.

I bashed the CB's in preseason and said they were a weakness, but you said the CB's were nothing to worry about because they've played good before so that automatically meant they will still be good come the regular season. What's the excuse now?! -

McKelvin was horrible yesterday, as he was beaten badly yesterday. Gilmore also gave up plays as well. With the run defense being improved this season, teams are throwing the ball more on the Bills and they're exposing the secondary. -
Bills have a weak secondary

The first TD where the Pats WR beat 2 of our WR's was a good play on the Pats. The other TD's where the Pats receivers were left wide open are inexcusable. -

The offense didn't play well in the first half but stepped it up in the 2nd half. The defense played good in the 1st half, but the secondary got burnt big time in the 2nd half. +1 -

I agree. I questioned the secondary in the preseason. With the run defense being much improved, teams are passing more on the Bills and the secondary is getting exposed. -
Tom Brady exposed the Bills secondary today. It wasn't just the dink and dunk stuff, it was also the intermediate and deep passes. McKelvin was beaten numerous times, especially on 2 TD's. I forgot who was the CB, but there was absolutely no reason for him to push the Pats WR in the end zone resulting in a pass interference penalty.

That was funny, except for the Bills Superbowl t-shirt.

Pears is not a Guard, so he needs to go in the offseason.
