Wilson is playing either very near or above his career average in almost every category. Except for INT. His INT ratio this year so far is low. What jump are you expecting from him? If Wilson is what we want EJ to be, he's not that far off.

Am I the only one who still believes in EJ?
Maddog69 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I love what I've seen from EJ so far. Plays smart. Doesn't cost us games. I think he's going to be a very good QB. -
EJ has more 20+ yd completions this year than Wilson. In fact, he's tied for second most in the league. Interesting to compare EJ to Wilson. They have exactly the same number of pass attempts. Wilson has 5 more completions for a total of 38 more yds and 3 more passing TD's. Wilson averages about 13 more YPG rushing but EJ has a rushing TD. Wilson doesn't. Point is, everyone seems to LOVE Wilson and HATE EJ. Statistically, there's not a huge difference. Give EJ the OL, running game and coaches in Seattle, and put Wilson here and I would love to see how they both fare. The thing I want to see from EJ is a little bit more aggressiveness. Like many posters here have said (and even Marrone has alluded to) be a QB. Don't be afraid to make mistakes. I get annoyed when we get inside the opponents 25-30 yd line and dink and dunk it without taking shots to the end zone. That's where I need to see more from EJ and from Hackett.

I personally prefer Pettine's more aggressive style of Defense. I would've liked for Pettine to stay and build on the success from last year. Adding a run thumper like Spikes would have been fun to see under Pettine.
-
The stunts were still confounding the OL in the second half. And if we are placing blame, lots should go to Hackett. My 11yr old son can tell you what play they are going to run on almost every play when they come up to the line of scrimmage. I personally would have fired Hackett after last year and brought in someone with NFL experience as a play caller. I think Hackett is the biggest issue with the offense.

EJ had shown quite a bit. Even with his accuracy issues his completion percentage is over 60%. Not terrible. His TD to INT ratio is solid. He is 6-6 as a starter and has 4 game winning drives in the 4th qtr or overtime already in his short career (one short of the highest in the timeframe). That doesn't include the Atlanta game in Toronto where EJ led the team to a potential game winning score which was fumbled away in the fourth quarter and then did it again in OT. Both fumbles were easily within FG range. I am by no means saying that EJ is great. I don't know how good or bad he will be. I am simply saying that I vehemently disagree with the assertion that he has "shown nothing".

Nope. EJ sucks, don't you get it? Anything bad that happens is 100% EJ's fault. He needs to be absolutely perfect on every throw or he is a bust. This board is a joke. The line played like crap. The coaches did not adjust to SD running stunts, the run game was ineffective. The front office could see the issues on the OL all preseason and did nothing to address it. Sammy Watkins, the greatest WR of all time admitted to "taking a play off". The team had over 100yds in penalties. But we lost solely and exclusively because EJ (in his 14th start) is terrible and will never improve. Give me a break.

You already posted this in the shoutbox, why not post it in one of the other EJ's terrible threads -
Like I thought. No proof. Just another silly statement. You have on clue how the plays are designed. The more you post, I'm thinking you have no clue about football at all.
-
Call me crazy but I also felt like if we kept Dick Jauron as HC and hired Gailey as OC, the results would have been tremendous.
-
Russel Wilson on most any other team would suck. He's on a great team with a ridiculously good defense and an offensive coach who builds an offense to suit the talents of his team.
-
Do you have any proof of this? None of us have any idea where the plays are designed to go.
-
Basically, any person with a specific opinion can find a stat that supports his opinion and ignore everything else. My Dad always used to say "figures lie and Liars figure".
-
Isn't the West Coast offense basically centered around short, quick passes? This offense has been used and adapted for many years with great success. What I hated were the 2 yard passes Trent Edwards would throw on 4th and 19.

we drafted EJ because he is a big, strong QB, right?
Maddog69 replied to Tampa Bob's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There are times where I feel like EJ looks like he is nervous to take a hit. I hope that goes away. I would like to see him run the ball more and not slide as much. That is an area that seems coachable and easily improved. I guess we will see. I look at EJ as a work in progress. I like some of the things I've seen and dislike. Some. But I can say the same thing about every QB. Brady, Manning and even Russell Wilson (possibly the most overhyped QB on this board right now) make bad decisions and bad throws. -
That's not true, Why So Serious. The OC calls the play which then determines the routes run by the receivers. The QB then runs the play and goes through the prescribed progressions to find the open receiver. If the OC does not run plays with deep routes as the primary route (or every second, third, etc), then it can't be blamed on the QB for not going downfield. Since I don't know what plays/routes are being called, it is not possible to know who is to blame for the lack of a downfield passing game. Is it possible that the Bills are holding back some downfield passing plays to be used later in the season?

This place would be really fun if we weren't 2-1 and in first place in the division, wouldn't it? What is so hard to understand about "developing a starting QB takes time". Sure there are cases where guys came out of nowhere and played great. But in general, you have to be patient. There will be ups and downs. Relax. There's plenty of time left to figure out of EJ sucks or not. This whole thing seems like buying a junk car to restore and then being pissed that it isn't Show car quality after an hour of body work.

If you are winning by less than 7, you punt and play defense. If you are losing, you go for it every time in that situation. I strongly dislike the conservative (AKA playing scared) play calls from this coaching staff. I want aggressive and innovative.

Question...for those what have watched each game
Maddog69 replied to TheBackupQB's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
EJ sucked yesterday. But to say he had plenty of time is just not correct. I was at the game. SD was getting pressure on him very quickly on almost every play. EJ made bad decisions and bad throws while under pressure, but he was most assuredly under pressure constantly. That said, Hackett needs to call 3-5 DEEP throws every half. Figure out which receiver is being single covered and let it fly. NO checkdowns. NO reads. NO other option. If you throw them 6-10 times a game you will connect on a few, you will get flags on a few and you will back the safeties out of the box. Do some play action bombs on 1st down when they defense is expecting Spiller up the middle for 2 yds. -
Hypothetical question regarding QB

Would you take Ben Roethlisburger? Sounds like the exact same guy. I personally would not want either one. -
Anyone remember this guy?

Your 3 keys to the Bills continuing to win
Maddog69 replied to BuffaloBill's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Show up Outscore opponent Win But seriously: staying healthy is huge avoid big mistakes (mental errors, penalties, turnovers, missed assignments) more aggressive play-calling in Red-zone resulting in more TDs instead of FGs -
Jerry lost what little credibility he had with me about 5 years ago. He was on GR and they were talking about Ralph Wilson. The GR guys asked Jerry if he ever called Ralph to get his side of the story. Jerry said "No, I choose not to call him because I want to remain negative and don't want to feel sympathy because Ralph is old"(closely paraphrased). The key part for me was him admitting that he chooses to remain negative. I don't mind honest and objective reporting/opinions. I have no interest in intentionally negative ones. I have not read or listened to anything from him since.

Hypothetical question regarding QB
Maddog69 replied to Kirby Jackson's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
No. Seems like a person that would be very difficult to root for. Would not want him as a representative of the Buffalo Bills.
