I think people defend him because he has played 13 games on a team that has been very bad for a very long time. To expect him to come in and play like an elite, experienced NFL QB immediately is unrealistic. He is going to have flaws, he is going to make mistakes, he is going to make bad decisions, bad throws and have terrible games. But mixed in with that, he is going to do some good thing, he is going to develop experience and confidence and he is going to become a leader on this team. It amazes me that so many people seem so unwilling to give him a chance to develop. You wouldn't take a kid on his 16th birthday and expect him to pass his drivers test for his license. He would need some experience. It doesn't make sense to sit in the car next to him and scream at him for making mistakes as he is learning how to drive.EJ just got the keys to the car. Give him a break.

the guy who had Cordy Glenn for lunch this past Sunday

Seems like an overstatement. -
We don't have to win 2 out of three. We have to win 8 of the next 14. To me, that seems quite possible.

NE wasn't on your list. I left of Houston because, well, they have Fitz who threw away their game last week.

I doubt Balt, Pit, SD or Denver are nit picking every throw by their QB and whether or not he slid to early on a scramble.

Bills' All Time Best Offensive Play Caller
Maddog69 replied to patfitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Yep. Jimbo had the most success of any play caller the Bills have ever had. -
I have a friend who is a big time Raider fan and was calling Mack a bust in preseason. Lol.

I think you have it backwards. In the current NFL with the parody as it is, (and with the Bills where they've been the last 14 years), any fan who doesn't look positively at a 2-1 record and 1st place in the division after 3 weeks as a good thing probably won't be happy with anything. Like I said in another post, it seems that many here are just negative for the sake of being negative (or maybe just to argue).

All 32 NFL teams graded on their five-year potential

I'm going to guess the 2-1 record and 1st place in the division. And maybe beating a Chicago team in Chicago (which has never been done before by any Bills team). I agree with this assessment but I love the positivity of the writer. And of course, the negative crew are already ripping it apart. LOL. I just don't get why some people choose to be so negative when all signs point to thing moving in the right direction. I'd love to see what this board was like it '86-'88. -
So, for all of the EJ critics, if he completed 2 more passes in each of the last 3 games, would you be happy? Because that that point, He'd be at 70% completion percentage and would be at exactly the same statistical level as Russell Wilson? So I guess we've found the quantifiable number for suckiness. EJ is 2 completions per game below suckiness. What if Chandler could actually catch or if Sammy the Great didn't give up on a play? This debate wouldn't exist.

Yeah, sure. Lets let him throw pick sixes and throw games away like Geno. Or better yet, run around recklessly and get injured like Vick or RGIII. How about let him control the offense. Don't take unnecessary risks and win games. It's working so far. We are in first place in the division and the AFC looks to be wide open.

Bored on the plane today...

How about the Carolina game last year? Great drive by EJ to win the game. How about two game winning drives in the Atlanta game last year that were fumbled away by Stevie and Chandler. People seem to want to ignore or diminish any success EJ has had and exaggerate any perceived flaws or failures (for example the guys who say any completion he makes is because the receiver/RB made a miraculous stretch for a horribly thrown ball). -
Tom Brady, Cam Newton among Pro Bowlers to worry about
Maddog69 replied to 26CornerBlitz's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Switch NE receivers for ours and half this board would be saying they are awesome and EJ sucks. Amendola and Edelman have put up solid NFL #s in their careers. LaFell and Dobson were both fairly high picks. Its funny how every other QB in the league is awesome and if his stats don't back it up then it is someone else's fault. But EJ is the cause of all the Bills problems. (Ignoring the fact that he's led them to a 2-1 record and only lost to a team that also beat the Savior, Russell Wilson). -
Even with his horrible accuracy, EJ miraculously completes almost 2/3 of his passes.

Tannehill on the outs in Miami

Am I the only one who still believes in EJ?
Maddog69 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
what about developing chemistry with receivers. Maybe he doesn't develop more pinpoint accuracy but he and the receivers adjust more to each other therefore completing more passes. I think that is likely (I also think accuracy can improve with practice, coaching and confidence). -
Would you, right now, trade EJ for Tannehill straight up?

I thought I was wrong once. But I wasn't. LOL. -

My thinking on this issue is this. I haven't watched enough of Tannehill to have a definitive opinion about his development. In the games against us, I think he's been bad. In the games I've seen from EJ (all of his NFL games), I like what I've seen. I would like to see him be more aggressive at times and get more deep throws and more throws to the end zone. But I keep in the back of my mind that he has only started 13 games. Of those, he's had 3-4 stinkers. But he's also looked good at time (very good sometimes). I have no interest in considering trading him for any other teams starter, especially a guy further along in his career that has done little to show that he is any further along in development. Now if we could trade for a stud QB, then yes I'd be all for it. But at this point I am more than happy to stick with EJ and see how he develops. I'm just really sick of all of the bashing and I think I'm going to stay off of TBD for a while. It's not worth the aggravation. Have a good day and GO BILLS! -

FireChan - You are picking out a few stats and giving them more importance than others. I don't care if EJ throws for 4000yds. or a certain # of TDs. I care if the team is winning. I care if he does stupid things to cost us games. And I care if he can win games in the 4th QTR and overtime. He has so far shown me (in 13 starts) That he can run the offense and win games. He doesn't do stupid things that cost us games. He has been able to lead the team to game winning drives on 5 occasions (actually 6 because he did it twice in one game). I'm fine with his development. I don't think Tannehill is better. Our offensive gameplans are different than Miami's. They don't have Spiller and Jackson to run the ball. They throw the ball downfield more. And don't forget how many of Tannehill's yards are in garbage time when they were trying to come back from a big deficit. So far, Tannehill has had more time to establish himself and really hasn't done much. EJ has been fine in his 13 starts. Give him 22 more and see where he compares to Tannehill. Heck, wouldn't it be cool if EJ, Geno and Tannehill all turned into solid NFL QBs and we had a nice division rivalry for the next 10 years? That would be fun. -
OK. My last reply in this thread. Bottom line is that you think EJ sucks and found some stat that proves your point while ignoring all of the other stats that disprove your theory. I'm done wasting my time trying provide proof for something you simply refuse to see.

Can you show me where his overall stats are better than EJ? In almost 3x as many games as EJ, this is what I find for Tannehill on Pro-Football reference.com EJ is better in: Completion % TD % INT % Yard per attempt Adjusted Yards per attempt Yard per catch QB rating EJ has more rushing yards per game. More rushing TD's per game and takes less sacks. Tannehill averages more yards per game So, you are right that the stats do speak for themselves and they say that you are wrong.
