  1. He has started less than a full season of games, way to early to make a determination one way or the other regardless of the fact that so many here have already made up their minds that he's never going to amount to anything. Only time will tell. I hope Orton does well and leads them to the playoffs, but my feeling is that the team will continue on their current path of some good games and some bad. I fully expect EJ to be back under center after the Bye week. I hope I'm wrong.
  2. If I remember the play correctly in my head, I don't think either defender was really close enough to immediately touch him anyway. Not sure they could have touching him before he rolled forward. Very heady play on his part and unfortunately for us.
  3. Enough with the excuses for Orton already. If he's not ready to play, he shouldn't play. If he's rusty, he should've signed earlier so he could play in preseason. Every game on the schedule matters. We cannot afford to say "It's not about beating Detroit".
  4. I was struck by EJ's comment about "letting natural talent take over". Maybe I'm reading into it a bit but that might be a hint that he's not being allowed to play to his strengths and next time he gets a chance he will do things his own way a bit more.
  5. well, I guess we disagree. A few plays made would make a huge difference in the games and extend drives and give more scoring opportunities. If you look strictly at completion percentage, adding 3 completions per game bring him up to over 68%. That pretty darn solid. If those additional completions are on the passes downfield, that's even better. I realize a lot of people here hate him and you might be one of them. But in my opinion, he has not been terrible (with the exception of this last game and part of the SD game). I believe he can still become a good starting QB. None of us know for sure. But I know it would be great for the Bills if he can figure it out. very well said. 100% agree the play he made to elude the pass rush on the long TD pass this week was pretty impressive as well. Not sure why the haters refuse to give him props for any of the good things he's been able to do, but they are more than happy to exaggerate the negatives.
  6. I don't think EJ is done. He's 3-4 plays per game away from being pretty good. If he learns from this and becomes a bit better reading defenses and making quicker decisions this could help his career progress. It is definitely a turning point in his career because he is either going to learn from this and get better or he is going to flame out like so many other QB prospects of the past. He is such a likeable kid it makes it easy for me to root for him and hope he succeeds. For the life of me I don't understand the dislike so many on this board have for him. It isn't his fault he was drafted higher than he probably should have and thrust into a starting role before he was ready. Go Bills and Go EJ. Hopefully your chance doesn't come again this year because that would mean that Orton is doing well and we are in playoff contention. Coffin corner is when the Punter boots the ball out at the one. You're think of throwing to the back pylon.
  7. Ending a relationship with someone doesn't necessarily make him a bad person.
  8. Unless Orton plays great and gets them to the playoffs (or atleast 9-7). Or EJ has a major turn around and shows he's the QB of the future, I am expecting a housecleaning at the end of the season. I think Russ will be retained but not in his current capacity. I think Pegula will hire a football man to run the team. It would not surprise me for him to hire Bill Cowher, given the Pittsburgh connections working for the Sabres. Whalley may survive as GM but Cowher or another higher end coach would have more of the authority over the roster. No matter what happens, the next 6-8 months are going to be interesting and could go a very long way to determining the longer term future of the team.
  9. Oh no, a professional athletes in full pads had to take a hit. Get over it.
  10. Happened enough last week. That has to stop. No more excuses from those guys. Catch it even if its not perfect.
  11. Haven't been here all week? Our problem was EJ and that's been fixed. We're good now.
  12. I don't see why people are making the Lions out to be the '85 Bears. Their a good team but this needs to be a win with 1st place in the division up for grabs. No excuses. I keep hearing how this is the most talented Bills team since the 90's. If that's true, why are so many people afraid of this game?
  13. There was talk that the FCC rule might have little effect because the NFL and the networks who own broadcasting rights can agree not to broadcast games that aren't sold out over the local airwaves. The interesting part is that Cable providers could pick up out of town broadcasts and play them in local areas and basically then create their our NFL Ticket stations.
  14. Exactly. So many here complained about how bad EJ was and how awesome the rest of the team was. Now they got the QB change and are setting the table full of excuses why Orton won't do any better. Hopefully he does, but come on. If he doesn't get the job done any better than EJ, it was a bad decision.
  15. Agreed. CJ may be more physically gifted but he is terribly over rated. People talk about him being a threat to "take it to the house" That NEVER happens. Even when he gets a long run he gets caught from behind and has to go sit down.Fred makes yards out of nothing. He is by far the better all around back and should get the bulk of the carries.
  16. The Watkins trade will be his undoing. Huge overpayment when they could have stayed put and gotten great talent (Benjamin is better that Watkins so far, I know its still early). And we still would have the #1 next year. I hated the trade at the time. I hate it even more now since Sammy seems soft like CJ.
  17. Might Robert Woods be pissed that he isn't a key component of the offensive gameplan now that Sammy is here and that's why he's pouting? except for the fact that he will be afraid to do anything like Losman was because as soon as he makes one mistake he will yet yanked again. You can't have the QB looking over his shoulder.
  18. This basically sums up my feelings about the Bills and the fanbase here at TBD. We've had times where we had QBs who may have been able to develop if we fixed the OL problems and surrounded them with good coaches and systems to make them successful. We haven't done that but that is what I want. Fix the other problems and then give EJ a chance to see if he can develop into a good QB. Without surrounding him with winning talent and coaches, you can't fairly assess him. I don't want to go through another 3-5 year rebuild. What I would like is for Hackett to get the boot immediately. Get a playcaller here who can design a game plan around the strengths of our team (run the damn ball and get it to our playmakers in space, and mix in some bombs dowfield to back defenses off). I hate giving up on EJ so quickly especially with no clearly better solution available.
  19. exactly, We had Fitz and didn't win squat. EJ has a chance to become a good quality NFL starter with good coaching and a supporting cast. Orton has had chance after chance and proved beyond a shadow of doubt that he is mediocre at best. If we are moving on from EJ, I would hope he is replaced with someone better than Kyle Orton (aka Fitz Jr)
  20. So, you're saying that teams are wasting money on QB coaches? and Kids practicing throwing balls through a tire has no benefit? If it's a debate, it's a ridiculous one. Place a bucket twenty feet from you and throw a ball into it. Do it 5000 times. I guarantee you will get more in after doing this than before. It's common sense (which I realize is not common on TBD).
  21. Funny, one of the best videos I've ever seen was a drill that Bill Walsh was working on with Young when he first got to SF in order to improve his footwork, shorten his delivery and improve accuracy. Walsh actually tied Youngs non-throwing arm to his side and I believe has a short string between his feet to shorten his steps during his drops.
  22. Game winning drive against Carolina. Two potential game winning drives against Tampa last year that Stevie and Chandler fumbled away. Inspirational speech to the team that fired them up for the game earlier this year. Winning a game on the road in Chicago, which has never been done previously by any Bills team. He made a very nice spin move to elude the pass rush yesterday, extend the play and throw the TD to Williams. There are times when he makes good plays. The haters want to ignore them. Watch every NFL QB, they make bad throws and decisions. I watch Brees last night and he made a ton of bad throws. It happens. I still believe EJ can be good. But I have no faith on our OC and am losing faith in Marrone. Our game plans are horrendous and I'm tired of hearing players talking about how they were unprepared and surprised by thing the other team did and how the coaches were slow to adjust. You can't win like that. You can improve accuracy otherwise nobody would ever practice it. You can also improve chemistry with teammates so they are "on the same page". You can also get receivers who actually catch balls that are in their vicinity. It's totally OK for a receiver to adjust to a ball. They are allowed to do that. other team's receivers do it all the time. They can also go up and take a hit to make a play. I never saw Andre Reed shy away from contact and blame the QB for a badly thrown ball. CATCH THE DAMN BALL.
  23. I guess we will see. I still think EJ has the talent to be good. I 100% believe that Marrone and Hackett are WAY out of their league in the NFL and need to go. Marrone and Hackett should be coaching in DII college ball. Palmer hasn't been good in 10 years.
  24. Other than the fact that you don't like EJ as a developmental prospect, I don't have a clue how you came to this conclusion based on the evidence posted in this thread. This thread basically says that there are more factors involved in the Bills loss yesterday than just EJ. For you to come away with your conclusion boggles my mind.
