Bills to go in little-talked-about direction at QB?
Maddog69 replied to Rubes's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
Interesting. If Mariotta or Winston fall to them at 5, they might pull the trigger and dump RG3. The thing that worries me with him is attitude/work ethic. Reports had him running his mouth to teammates that he had the owner in his pocket and didn't have to listen to coaches. That's not cool. So, assuming he's available and the Bills are interested, what is a fair price? Maybe, we offer our #2 pick in 2015 along with a conditional pick in 2016. Starts as a 3. If RG3 stays healthy and plays in 70% of the offensive snaps, it becomes a 2. If he does this and we make the playoffs, it becomes a 1. -

Worth a shot if you could get him for a fair price. Every available QB has flaws/risks. Griffin seems to have the most upside of anyone being discussed. -

Why? Is there a connection between the two besides the 6 months Palmer spent on the Titans staff before getting fired during Locker's rookie year? -

I could live with Drew Stanton being part of a competition for the spot. -

Schaub was actually really good for the Texans for a few seasons. He was dreadful in 2013 and never saw the field last year in Oakland because they liked what the saw in Carr. But Schaub might actually have the best career resume as compared the available QBs that have been discussed. -

At this point, I could see them try to bring in Schaub (assuming Oakland doesn't want to pay him $5.5m to back up Carr) and draft a QB in Rd3-4. -

I thought Sanchez might be a guy the Bills would consider bringing in until we got Rex. I just don't think Rex will want to bring that circus into town. The media would have a hayday with the tattoo thing and the butt fumble. -

This is a strange year in that there isn't a backup QB garnering a ton of attention like in previous years. -

Cautionary Tale for 2016 SB Tickets- Greediness by NFL

Yeah, sure. Get someone non-greedy like congress to fix the problem. That should work. -
Jets, Bills to pursue Revis (Update-Signed with Jets)
Maddog69 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I'd rather spend the money on a stud TE (D. Thomas) and/or Quality OL. I think our CBs will be fine, especially with aggressive pass rush. -
Personally, I have no interest in trading any picks for the garbage QBs that are currently rumored to be available. And I certainly want no part of trading up for Winston or Mariota. I'd like to see them give EJ a fair shot. Sign the best FA possible and let them compete. Draft a QB in Rd2, 3 or 4 and develop them so they have a shot in 2016 if EJ or the FA signee fails (maybe we get lucky and the draftee comes in immediately and takes the job like Russell Wilson, but that is VERY unlikely. My feeling is that EJ has a 60-70% chance of being the starter for week 1 of 2015 (barring injury).

You said you were willing to give a 5th round pick for him in a trade. (I did read what you wrote).
-
I can't believe there are still people on the Cousins bandwagon. He's another one who I would be OK being brought in to compete, but not if we have to sacrifice a draft pick to do it.

Josh Gordon fails another drug test; 1-yr banishment
Maddog69 replied to YoloinOhio's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I think the letter is very genuine. What he needs is counseling so that he does not feel the need to lean on drugs an alcohol when he is down. He is just a kid will undoubtedly mature. I do fully support the 1yr suspension for his recent violation. He has made too many mistakes and disregarded the rules too many times in the past. This one may be a minor violation, but it is a pattern of activity. He has every right in the world to have those drinks on the flight to Vegas, but if he chooses those drinks, he loses the privilege to play in the NFL. He has to learn to make better choices regardless of his upbringing. -
If he were a free agent, I would not mind him being brought in for competition since the other options are not overwhelming. But I would not want to give up a draft pick to get him. Now, if Rex decides that a certain player won't fit his defense, then I would not mind a player for player trade. I do think Glennon has potential.

Except that nobody pays to come and watch you and I do our jobs and nobody wants to buy merchandise with our names and likenesses on them. As long as he is popular and marketable, he can continue to push the envelope.

Its silly that the NFL forces these guys to talk with the media (and I use the term loosely because there are so many stupid bloggers and Twitter dorks now). There are enough players who crave the attention. If players choose to not speak to the media, it should be their prerogative. I would suggest that each team should be required to make a certain number of players available to the media each week. Some guys just don't want to deal with it and they should not be forced to. I'll give Marshawn credit for sticking to his guns and continuing to make a mockery of the whole thing. Basically, he is saying to the NFL "If you force me to talk to the media, my answers will be crap like most of the questions".

The problem is that every single options we have for a starting QB next year is less than optimal. EJ, Tuel, Sanchez, Hoyer, Locker, Mallett, Bradford, Foles, Cutler, Matt Moore, any QB in the draft or any other QB available has huge red flags. Some worse than others. Some have more upside than others, but as it stands right now, our options for competition at the QB spot are very limited. The Bills are currently in the hook-up bar at 3:45am digging through the fat, ugly chicks still left looking to get some action. Chances they will regret which ever one they hook up with, but their going to need to take a shot. Most likely scenario is to bring in one or two FA or trade QBs and then draft one. Let them fight it out and hopes one pulls a Russell Wilson and surprises the crap out of everyone. I don't think EJ, Foles or anyone else will match that year. Foles seemed to hit lightning in a bottle with those stats. I would not expect him or any other QB ever to match that.

David Lee comments on Geno vs EJ
Maddog69 replied to truth on hold's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
There is a much greater chance that EJ is our starter rather than being released this spring before there's even a competition. I believe that some of these issues can be improved with confidence, better mechanics, comfort level in the offense and timing with the receivers. I think we will find out in 2015 whether EJ is good enough or not. Its just too bad 2014 was wasted on Uncle Rico and not used to find out if EJ can develop.
