"Building the Franchise the right way"

So...The fact that he seemingly just realized this, in his 3rd year as GM, when the only real QB he had was Fitz...That does not bother you at all? -
I truly feel horrible for Ryan Fitzpatrick.

No way...Manning would turn this Offense around in a heartbeat...You think the Broncos have THAT much better talent on Offense? Especially at RB? Manning would have this Offense in the top 5 in the NFL...Chan's job would be SO much easier with Manning it's not even a fair comparison... -

Really? You're using fans in a VERY general way here...For example, I'm a fan of over 40 years...And I've been screaming about the need at QB since...well...it seems like forever...I know there are quite a few right here at TBD who have done the same...Nix has Drafted ONE QB...In the 7th freaking Round in three years...On top of that he has brought in a few has-beens, or never-beens to compete with Fitz...Or more likely he brought those QB's in so there would be no-doubt Fitz would be the guy...So...No way I can agree with that statement...The Bills have done well to keep their own in the Nix era, I'll give you that much...But I can't back Nix as far as the Draft goes because he has not addressed the #1 Need on this Team IMHO...And for me at least, the Draft is #2 way I'm going to evaluate Nix...The #1 way I'm evaluating him is the way he over-valued Fitz, and under-valued QB's that he could have Drafted over the past 2 years at the very least...I don't think Buddy Nix is a good GM...I think he's over-rated by some Bills Fans...I think the rest of the league knows he's not that good...Good Scout, bad GM... -
This is EXACTLY correct...I was thinking about this earlier... Granted you have the Gabbert/Henne situation in J-Ville...Cassel/Quinn in KC...Sanchise/Tebow in NY...Kolb/Skelton in AZ...Then what? I think Palmer would be better in this Bills Offense than Fitz is, even though I'm not the biggest Carson Palmer Fan in the world...We'll call that one a push...The rest of the Teams either have established Vets that are better than Fitz, young Franchise QB's that are already better than Fitz, or young guys with bigger upside and bigger arms than Fitz...So basically Fitz could probably start for 4, maybe 5 other NFL Teams...That's it...And that is exactly how to determine his actual worth...Sure he's worth more to The Bills now...Seeing as though they paid him and he knows the Offense...But when you can say with a bit of confidence that he could not go to say Tennessee and win a Starting job...You know what the guys true value is...And it's NOT high...At all...
-
And who better to string up than an average QB who is leading us nowhere... And I would like to add that I'm happy to see so many Fitz backers take great solace in the fact that Fitz is a better QB than Charlie Batch...Which he is by the way...Talk about shooting for the stars!!!

Good points all... And what did Washington and Seattle do to assure these turnarounds?...They addressed the QB position...Not once mind you...But at least twice...Seattle signed Flynn, and Drafted Wilson...Washington traded up to Draft RGIII, then still took Cousins in the same Draft...These are two Franchises that understand, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the QB Position has to be addressed when you're not-good-enough there...Do you think for a second that Shanahan, or Carroll would basically stand pat if all they had was Fitz? I still point the finger at Buddy mainly...How he could just sit back and expect Fitz to lead this Team to the Playoffs is just beyond my comprehension...It's his job to know better...And instead he over-valued Fitz, and under-valued potential Draft picks like Dalton, Kaepernick, Wilson, etc...I really don't give a darn what anybody thinks...Of all the over-rated components of this Franchise, IMHO Nix is the most over-rated...He's in WAY over his head...
-
Yawn... This attitude will certainly help Brandon move that inventory he's always talking about...Winning games though? Going to the Playoffs? Not so much...

Why you don't hope to win meaningless games:

I don't think The Bills can beat Seattle, or Miami on the road...They're just too inconsistent, and the injuries are piling up now...We'll see though, you're probably right... -

I would just about kill for Geno Smith to come to Buffalo...So... -

I certainly would not want The Bills to give up a 2nd round pick for Smith...But...I don't know...A 3rd and maybe another pick? A desperate team could pay more, but who is that desperate? We'll see I guess... -

Great question...I'm guessing they ask for a 2nd, and settle for a conditional 3rd...But it could be more...Hard to say...Real hard now that I'm thinking about it... -

I would not mind seeing Smith AND a Draft pick in 2013...Thing is, if I could be convinced The Bills Defense would be MUCH improved next year, I'd be more excited about grabbing a QB like Smith for a year or two... But I'd rather see The Bills simply Draft a QB in 2013 and play him from day #1...I understand the growing pains part...But at this point that does not phase me much..I still think The Bills have plenty of talent on the Offensive side with Spiller, Freddie, CJ, TJ in his 2nd year...Nelson coming back, a solid O-Line, etc...I think the right Rookie could come in and do OK...We'll see... -
I don't think he needs to throw Fitz under the bus either...What he should do is be honest about the effect the QB position has on NFL Offenses, and basically say this Season is not over...When it is, they will look at the QB position, just like they will look at all positions...And if they decide an improvement is necessary at QB, or anywhere else, they will be aggressive in pursuing all options for the immediate and distant future...That's all he has to say...IMHO of course...

If the bills had drafted AJ green and andy dalton

I hear what you're saying...I don't really agree...But I understand... Seeing as though we're really only talking about The Bills...IMHO Nix falls short no matter how you decide to evaluate the guy...The hindsight deal may very well be best judged as a combination of who they picked, and who they passed on...Again Nix falls terribly short under that microscope...It simply does not matter much how you look at it, you're not going to find a single NFL GM who would prefer to have Aaron Williams instead of Dalton or Kaepernick...Sure it's 20/20 hindsight...But it's not just who Nix passed, it's who he picked... To me at least, the lack of laser focus on improving the QB position is the biggest black mark on Nix record...Dalton, Kaepernick, and every other QB the Bills may have grabbed, could have become complete bombs in Buffalo...That's always a possibility...And sure IF that happened many fans would be well up in arms...But at the very least Nix could say, (in a politically correct way... ) right now, that the problems with Fitz were properly identified, and they used a premium pick at an attempt to find his replacement...He could at least say they tried... It's not just about the decision to go with Fitz...That's bad enough...But to expect that this Franchise can get by only bringing in Thigpen, Levi Brown, Tarvaris Jackson, and Vince Young to compete for the Starting job with Fitz??? Drafting basically NOTHING at QB over 3 entire Drafts knowing Ryan Fitzpatrick is your QB??? It's just unacceptable...It's unacceptable under any type of evaluation process IMHO...It's just a bad job by a 1st time GM who GREATLY underestimated the importance of the QB position, and greatly overestimated the abilities of the QB's he had on the Roster... Anyway...Sigh... -

Who's giving him a bust? The only question here is, right now, would you rather have Kaepernick or Fitz? Compared to what we have, the dream of a kid like Kaepernick would understandably take most Bills fans into fantasy land...He's a wet dream compared to what we see on most Sundays... I'm pretty sure any Bills Fan would take their chances with Kaepernick, noob or not, over our current situation...I don't think Kaepernick has proven much...But he's got a massive upside compared to Fitz...At this point any Bills Fan who would not LOVE to have, at minimum, the hope that Kaepernick brings...Well...You would have to be a massive glutton for punishment... -
Pick one to leave - Fitz, Chan or Wanny
KOKBILLS replied to BringBackFergy's topic in The Stadium Wall Archives
I agree...That's why it really shocks me how infatuated with Fitz Gailey seems to be...You have to know every time Fitz misses one of these open deep passes it takes more than a few minutes off Chan's life...It has to kill the guy when he sees his Offense get EXACTLY what they want, his QB properly read the play then throw to the correct receiver, only to have the pass go woefully off-target...Those plays are Coach killers in more way than one... -
